I have been practicing Yoga Nidra less than a year and find it helps me relax. I saw this book and thought it sounded interesting. I have never read a Yoga Nidra script before having always been on the receiving end of them. Since I have an older Kindle, it has the ability to read this book to me. As mentioned in the beginning of the book, an idea would be to read and record the scripts using a voice recorder so you can listen and relax. Definitely should be on the shelf of anyone interested or practicing Yoga Nidra.
Excellent Book for Beginning or Intermediate Yoga Nidra Practitioner
I am relatively new to Yoga Nidra, so when I saw this book at a favorite book review site, I knew I had to check it out. I am so glad I did. If you are only familiar with the twisty, bendy yoga asanas, Yoga Nidra is wholly different. The phrase “Yoga Nidra” stands for yogic sleep, a special practice that incorporates physical relaxation with mental awareness. I love the cover of this book as it so embodies what my experience of Yoga Nidra has been. This book explains the background of Yoga Nidra—something I didn't know as I stumbled upon Yoga Nidra on YouTube—and has 24 different Yoga Nidra scripts that you can record for yourself. Some are written by the author, while different practitioners write others. After the introductory material comes the largest section of the book, the practice portion with the meditations. The author starts with foundational Yoga Nidra meditation before moving on to more specific ones, like for special groups of people (e.g., children, men, women), as well as health, well-being, and healing. The book is well structured. Each section introduces the meditations to come with a few lines about each meditation within it. Each meditation has a good structure as well, discussing more deeply what it is about as well as talking about its structure and processes. I liked that breakdown because it has helped me create my own meditations. I love the four appendices at the back that dive deeper into particular topics like Yoga Nidra and brain waves, the chakras, and how to lead Yoga Nidra for a group. While I haven't tried every meditation in the book, the ones I have tried certainly have deepened my understanding and appreciation of the practice of Yoga Nidra… and have brought centeredness and peace to my daily life. Much needed! I had already incorporated it into my life for sleep, as I am a lifelong insomniac, and I now look forward not only to practicing the meditations in this book but also the meditations it has inspired me to create on my own. Highly recommended.
I must have expected something completely different because I read and read and read but never seemed to get anywhere.
This would be a much better audiobook.
This is a beautiful and informative book. Full of information and advice about Nidra mediations that you can do yourself from the scripts. Just beautiful. I have already preordered it as a gift for a friend!
Highly recommended to find our more about Yoga Nidra and to do specific meditations. An absolute must for anyone into mediations.
Thank you Llewellyn and Netgalley.
The meditations in this book are beautiful and relaxing, which is perfect for Yoga Nidra. I definitely recommend this book.
This book was a nice discovery to add to my yoga routine.
The book explains extensively the benefits of this type of practice to release stress and obtaining a good state of mind.
I have heard of Yoga Nidra, and have even listened to some Yoga Nidra recordings. I found this an informative and helpful read to get a bit deeper in my understanding of this practice. Worth the time!
