Thanks to NetGalley, BookClubGirl, and William Morrow for this copy of "The Sister-in-Law."
This was the first book I'd read by author Crane and is now on my list of authors to watch.
The book was fun, suspenseful, fast- and easy-to-read.
"The Sister-In-Law" is a gripping, fast-paced psychological thriller full of twists and turns. Crane skillfully weaves a complex plot filled with secrets, betrayals, and dark family dynamics that will have readers guessing until the end. Crane expertly maintains a sense of suspense and urgency throughout, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they race to uncover the truth behind the mysterious events plaguing the protagonist's life.
The ominous atmosphere provides a sense of unease and creates a chilling backdrop against which the drama unfolds, heightening the tension. While the novel offers plenty of twists and suspenseful moments, the plot lacks some depth and complexity. The story is enjoyable but may feel somewhat formulaic at times, with familiar tropes and plot devices that detract from its overall impact.
"The Sister-In-Law" is a solid psychological thriller that will satisfy fans of the genre. While it may not offer the most original plot or the deepest character development, its fast-paced narrative, suspenseful atmosphere, and engaging twists make it a compelling and fun read.

The Sister in Law
By: Pamela Crane
Publisher: William Marrow

Wow! That was not the ending I thought I was going to get!
Harper has had a rough year to say the least after the death of her toddler she goes off the rails. But the worst is yet to come, she finds her husband Ben dead. Only she believes he’s killed himself taking away her ability to care for her children since the life insurance won’t pay out.
When she calls her brother Lane out of desperation he comes running and they stage a break in to cover up the suicide. Not knowing what really happened to Ben.
Harper ends up moving in with Lane and his brand new bride Candace.
The longer Ben’s gone the more she finds out about his life that he was hiding from her. She learns he lost her mothers life savings in a Ponzi scheme. Could her mother have killed Ben?
Thrilling rollercoaster ride of a read! Give me all the Pamela Crane books! A complete page turner. Full of suspense. Loved the characters!
When I read the premise ofThe Sister In Law I was hooked from the beginning. This is a family drama thriller that will have you gripping the pages!
I absolutely loved that we got three POVs and could get some insights to each character. I thought Harper’s son was especially odd and definitely added a creepy factor into the novel.
The Sister In-Law, is a roller coaster that you won’t know who side to be on.
Overall, if you’re looking for a novel with secrets and family drama definitely pick up The Sister In-Law!
I think the premise of this is really good and it started off well. I liked the characters and the setup. But there was so much going on. Murder, suicide, hidden identities and ghosts all in one. The blatant animosity between Harper and Candace was a little off-putting. I think it could have been done better if the story was a little more streamlined.
Ooh time goes by and if i don't write the review right away...sigh. I'm trying to be better. The best i can do right now is give a star count...
THE SISTER-IN-LAW starts out with a bang and never slows down. Full of twists and turns it is guaranteed to entertain and keep you wanting more. The format of the book with the alternating chapters and POVs works well here and definitely adds to the ferocious page-turning quality of the story and pace. All the suspects in the book kept me guessing over and over.... and then even more! It was really fun trying to solve this alongside our MCs and see how it all played out in the end.
Thriller with many twists and family drama all in one. Told from three different view points - brother, sister and brother’s new wife. Also involves siblings’ mother and the sister’s rather scary children. Throughout the novel, where two people end up dead, it is back and forth as to who is the “bad guy” or is it more than one. I did suspect the murderer a bit before the end but the author tied up the loose ends an unanswered questions nicely. Book was hard to put down, although I can’t say that any of the characters were very likable, even after the truth is known. Also not sure about the children’s quick transformation from troubled to ordinary. But overall an emotional rollercoaster of a story.
After Harper finds her husband, Ben, dead of an apparent suicide, she calls Lane, her brother, for help. He takes in Harper and her children, and for a few weeks, Harper is happy. Until Lane's whirlwind romance with Candace ends in a trip to the altar. Harper feels her grasp on her new life slipping, and she will do anything to keep it. But Candace is hiding a few secrets too, and she won't go down without a fight.
A twisty thriller, The Sister-in-Law is a good entry book for those new to this genre; however, the characters are unreliable and unlikable, and that may turn off some readers.
Twisty thriller about Harper who comes home one night to find her husband, Ben, dead of an apparent suicide. She calls her brother, Lane, for help.
Six weeks later, Lane is married to Candace, a woman that seemed to enter his life quickly. Harper is suspicious of Candace. Although they butt heads, Candace wants to be sisters with Harper.
Both Harper and Candace are hiding things from their past, and if these things are exposed, the lives they built will crumble.
I enjoyed the twisty plot, although I did figure out the big reveal before it was presented. I liked how the author kept surprising you with new twists.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins #WilliamMorrow for #TheSisterinLaw. All opinions are my own.
I really needed to reflect after finishing this book. I was trying to sort how I felt about it. I’ll start with the issues I had. The characters, none of them likable. While some of them had experiences I could relate it, I found it hard to connect and even feel for any of them. The back and forth between certain characters was exhausting. I felt like jumping in there and putting them in a time out. I have mixed feelings on the twist. I saw it coming and then hoped I was wrong. I felt like it could have been executed a bit better but I didn’t hate it.
The story is entertaining. Some of the flashbacks gave me insight to certain characters. The writing is good. The author was able to bring out some strong emotions from me. Mostly anger and sadness because.…you’ll have to read the book to find out. I did like that she was able to do that.
As a whole, this book is a good read. Like I mentioned before, it was entertaining. While some of the back and forth made me cringe, I kept reading because I wanted more. I had to see it through to the end. If you’re a fan of thrillers, check this one out. I give this 3 stars.
This was my first Pamela Crane book and won't be my last. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in this book! This book starts off by Harper finding her husband dead. She calls her brother for help and he talks her out of calling the cops. I had my suspicions through out this book. At one point, I thought it could have been Harper, then I thought it was Lane, and I kept flipping back and forth on the who-done-it! Over all, I liked it!
DNF. Unfortunately, this was a book I started multiple times but could just not get into. I appreciate having the opportunity to read this book, it was just not a good fit for me as a reader. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted review copy.
This was a fantastic mystery! The best I have read in a while. There are many suspects and ways to solve the crime but I never saw them coming. The book starts with the murder of a husband and right away your mind starts to figure it out. Without giving spoilers there is his family, the wife's family, his work family and neighbors and associates. In addition we have the children who are not the sweet kids we would expect. Through the wife's daily living we learn about so many other occurrences and events that lead to the constant mystery of the many story lines.
So this is a pretty wild story. At the center are two women from very different backgrounds. Harper, a stay at home wife, living in wealth. And Candace, a leggy blonde, with a cloudy past. I think most everybody knows women like Harper and Candace. Harper, a fastidious, neat freak, type A with a rigid sense of herself as a caregiver. Then there is Candace, a free spirit who one could call lazy. Fireworks follow these women, when Harper is forced to move in with her brother Lane, and his new wife Candace, after the death of Harper’s husband Ben. Harper is naturally distrustful of the whirlwind relationship between Candace and Lane, and she becomes even more distrustful after finding out that Candace is also pregnant. With an open police investigation still ongoing into Harper’s husbands death, everyone in the house is under a fair amount of stress. Between 2 distrustful women, Harper’s unusual kids and Lane just trying to keep peace, chaos almost always reins. My favorite part of this is the inner monologue narrative of each character. We get both the rounded picture of each character as they are seen from the others and their own inner turmoil that defines each of them. The story definitely gets pretty wild toward the end, and I just wanted to keep flipping pages to find out where all this chaos was headed. Review posted to Amazon, Litsy, Facebook, LibraryThing, and Goodreads.
This was a wild ride. The story is told from three different POVs with well developed characters who have you thinking everyone is a suspect. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more books from the author.
I’m really not sure about this one so I don’t know how to write a review for it. I’m not even sure why I requested it. I thought it was just ok.
I really disliked both female main characters. Candance was annoying and whiny. Harper was an overbearing, snooty witch. I felt a little bad for Lane being stuck in the middle of the two, but he didn't really help his case any. Despite the fact that I didn't like any of the main characters, I did enjoy the plot of the book. There were plenty of twists, turns, and secrets to keep the reader interested. I look forward to checking out more work by this author.
I had a hard time keeping my interest in this one. The red herrings felt too outlandish, and the unreliable narrator theme, overused. I may be suffering from an overlaodof thrillers, but this one didn't do it for me.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this prempublication edition.
