'Coached in the Act' was absolutely gripping. Cat and Gilley are delightful characters. I love the relationship between Cat and her Detective. Very early on I had my suspicions as to the guilty party but was completely engaged in the how and why of the horrific outcome. There is a cliffhanger at the end that has me counting the days for resolution in the next book. I highly recommend the entire series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it! It was a fun, easy read (as cozies generally are), but it wasn’t an easy mystery where I felt like I knew whodunnit from the beginning and was bored with the mystery. The characters were fun, and I would enjoy reading more.
I enjoyed this book, especially all the food discussed. The mystery definitely wasn't too easy to figure out, but it wasn't so impossible or relied on some really obscure fact that you couldn't enjoy the book. I've really enjoyed this series and this author.
I discovered Victoria Laurie last year and have steadily read my way through her entire back list. Her cozy mysteries just hit me in a different way, and I can't put them down.
I loved coming back to visit my favorite people Cat and Gillie with all the shenanegains they get up to. I love the friendship that they have and how they are willing to do anything for each other. And how for even people they have just met they are willling to help in any possible way if they think that they are being unjustly accused something.
I dont want to get to much into the plot of the book and spoil anything but this was another fun cozy mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and keep you guessing who the bad guy is, especially in this one where there is no end to the list of suspects.
Also I loved the mentions we got of MJ and getting to know what she has been up to since we last saw her. I can't wait for more books from this author!
I have always enjoyed this author and read this series from the beginning. Gilley is always a hoot; Cat is sometimes a bit laced up. This is a perfectly fine example of a cozy mystery and it is a good read. My only frown comes because of the mentions of Abby and MJ from her other series that created this crossover. The mention of them made me miss those series as they are often more exciting.
After the excitement of solving two murder mysteries prior to the COVID lockdown, Cat and Gilley have settled into a boring everyday home/office routine. Gilley is having marital problems - working on a relationship when his husband is working overseas is hard. To cheer him up Cat gets tickets to a one-woman show, 12 angry men, that is a total sell out. The star of the show is dishing the dirt on 12 well-known men that she has dated - and she is being really, really cruel.
It comes as no surprise that she is murdered, it also came as no surprise that Cat and Gilley get swept up in investigating whodunnit. They need to work out who the twelve men are from the clues the murder victim gave during the show. The investigation is played against a background of the MCs getting on with their everyday life. Cat has settled into her relation with the local police detective. Gilley, as I mentioned before, is dealing with his marital issues - by avoiding them. Puppies, parties, gourmet cooking, laughs, and rubbing shoulders with the ‘beautiful people’ is contrasted with murder, violence and attempted suicide as a mum ceases to cope with parenthood. Another great book in the series.
Lovvveeee this series. Fell in love with Cat and Gilley when I first read about them in the MJ mystery series and now enjoy following them in the Coach mystery series as they solve different cases while running their life coach business. This mystery was one of my faves as they solve the murder of a well known actress and socialite.. Highly recommend to all cozy mystery lovers, Cat and Gilley fans, etc. Kudos to Victoria Laurie for another awesome mystery. Keep them coming. I received this copy from NetGalley and my review of this book is completely my own opinions of what I thought of it and how much I enjoyed reading it.
Cat is back, with Gilley not far behind, in this rollicking, sometimes thrilling installment in this newer series. There is a murder, more than one mystery, some heartbreak, and romantic angst. To tell more would give away the plot!
An enjoyable read, and I look forward to more in this series.
I hadn’t read the previous two books in this series but I didn’t feel at all lost. I plan to find and read the previous books as I really enjoyed this one. The story was different enough from the cozies I’ve been reading lately to really catch my attention. I really liked to sections where Cat and Gilley were identifying the “bad boys”. I can see myself doing something similar. I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.
As East Hampton's go-to life coach, Cat Cooper and her BFF, Gilley, delve into the exclusive personal lives of the rich and infamous. But with local gossip growing vicious, knowing too much information can be a death sentence...
This started out a tad slow but once it picked up it was quite the ride. I really enjoy this series which is a bit more serious than a cozy but not as dark as some mysteries. This had a great twist at the end that I did not see coming which just added to my enjoyment of this story. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
This is the third book in the Cat Cooper series. I requested this book simply because of the author. I haven't read the other two but will definitely be looking forward to them. Thankful to NetGalley for allowing me a copy of this title.
I loved it! Great mystery. Cat and Gilley are an adorable duo. When together they show genuine affection and are staunchly supportive of each other. It's sweet how eager they are to please everyone. Every meal they shared sounded divine and I wish I could see them in some of their stunning outfits. I especially enjoy hearing updates about their friends and family from the author's other books. This is a very fun series.
I was happily surprised with this book.
The pace began a bit slow, but it turned in to a roller-coaster of events, hints and a huge plot twist.
The characters begin to grow on you as you pass each page.
Definitely recommend it.
Coached in the Act is even better than the previous book.
The author brings together our favorite characters and adds a lovely pup in the mix. The story had me guessing until the very end. Great story, intrigue, and mystery make for a great cozy mystery.
Highly recommend this book!
You know a book has your attention when you start it before bed and don't go to sleep until it's done. While I kind of saw the ending, the road to it was one I never saw coming. I was left wanting to know more (which is always a good thing when you're reading a series book)
The overtones in this book were a bit heavier than in those previous, but considering the pandemic we're still in a year later, it's not a surprise. To cover mental health and all of the stickiness that entails was just what I needed <3 Well worth picking up
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed, are mine and mine alone.

Coached in the Act is my favorite of the series so far.
I thought that the plot was brilliant and I was completely baffled until the reveal.
I have really come to like Cat, and Gilley is just a wonderful addition to her life.
I'm really looking forward to reading more in this series.
