Halloween Party Murder is a collection of three Halloween stories. Leslie Meier's portion finds Lucy Stone in the middle of a Halloween mystery. Did someone murder Heather or was it an accidental overdose? I always look forward to catching up with Lucy Stone and family, as well as the citizens of Tinker's Cove.

I am not as familiar with Lee Hollis and Barbara Ross but enjoyed their contributions to this book and look forward to reading more from them.

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read another great holiday book.

My three favorite Maine mysteries are together again in Halloween Party Murder where the central theme is, you guessed it, Halloween parties. This book contains three novellas. All three are complete standalone stories, which you can read without confusion if you have never read any of these authors. I enjoyed all three stories. In only one story did I kind of guess who the murderer was. They are all quick reads. I read all three on the treadmill so they were great at taking my mind off grueling workouts! I didn’t have a favorite, because I love all three series. Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Full disclosure...I only read the novella from Leslie Meier. I have followed the Lucy Stone mystery series for many years and generally find them sufficiently cozy and enjoyable. I cannot say they rate a 5 star review, but they are comfortable like an old, soft pair of PJs. Meier is making an effort to reflect current issues in this installment with the element of Fentanyl in the plot line. This feels a bit much for little ole Tinker's Cove, but okay. Not much Halloween to this novella so don't expect an abundance of fall feels. Overall, this novella was just so-so but worth a read if you are a fan of the series.

Book #1 - Halloween Party Murder by Leslie Meier
Ty and Heather Moon own an old house that many people in town thought was haunted. Ty does a lot of work with electronics and lighting for special effects. As a result, Ty and Heather have agreed to use their house as part of a promotion to raise money for the Hat and Mitten Fund that Lucy Stone helps to promote. The Haunted House promotion is a great success until Lucy goes looking for Heather. Heather is still in the bathroom where her part took place. She is non-responsive, but still has a weak pulse. Lucy immediately goes for help, but Heather dies on the way to the hospital. Heather's husband, Ty, is accused of killing her with a drug overdose, but he insists he is innocent.

Who killed Heather? Why was she killed? Was the overdose intentional or accidental? Can Lucy untangle the mystery?

Book #2 - Death of a Halloween Party Monster by Lee Hollis
Haley Powell is conducting what she hopes to be her first annual Halloween party at her restaurant, Haley's Kitchen. People were to dress up as their favorite movie monster. Guests were dressed as Annie Wilkes from the Stephen King novel Misery, Chuckie the evil doll, the Mummy, Pennywise from another Stephen King movie, and others. As the party is winding down, Liddy discovers the body of Boris Candy in the freezer. Unfortunately, he is dead.

Who killed Boris? Why was he killed? Can Haley unravel the mystery?

Book #3 - Scared Off by Barbara Ross
Julia Snowden gets a frantic call from her niece, Page, who had been spending the night with her friends, Talia and Vanessa. The girls were doing a sleep-over at Talia's house and had invited some other people from their class at school. Unfortunately, the party got totally out of hand when additional people showed up. The newcomers were drinking beer and getting very noisy. They were supposed to be supervised by Mrs. Zelisko, who lived on the third floor of the house, but the girls were unable to find her. It turned out that Mrs. Zelisko was dead and her body had been stored in the shed.

Who killed Mrs. Zelisko? When was she killed? Why were the girls left unsupervised?

These are three great stories set around Halloween and each has its own share of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged clear to the end.

There aren't many times that I get to read three little stories by three wonderful authors Leslie Meier, Barbara Ross and Lee Hollis. plus it's Halloween. How can you not love a Halloween Mystery or should I say three Halloween mysteries. Leslie Meier features Lucy Stone a local newspaper reporter who is involved in trying to find out who murdered her neighbor while throwing a lavish Halloween party which is also a fundraiser for Lucy's non profit organization. Did the husband really do it?

Our next story by Lee Hollis features Haley Powell who just opened an new restaurant. A Halloween party was the first big event Haley was hosting,. Along with the fabulous menu someone is murdered. No one can figure out who it is and suddenly everyone is a suspect.. I love the characters in this story the most. They are funny and very fully of life. I felt like I was actually at that party. The killer will surprise you.

The last story by Barbara Ross features Julia Snowden.. Julia is home as a back up to her niece Page should she need her aunt since her parents are away. Little did Page know that the little sleepover with her best friend Vanessa and new friend Talia who moved to Maine a few months ago.. Small party turns into a huge party and a murder happens. Who can it be? There were so many people at this party. Who killed the upstairs neighbor.

I so enjoyed all three stories. The authors made each story fun and exciting. Their characters were very colorful which made the Halloween themed stories quick reads.

Thank you Kensington Books and NetGalley for the approval.

I really liked the Lucy Stone mystery in this trio. Meier brought back some old characters, which was great since cozy mysteries tend to introduce people who are never seen or heard from again. The mystery was interesting and sad while staying true to Meier’s interest in current events like the drug epidemic, the plight of small-town America, and the gentrification of towns by young entrepreneurs.
Hollis’ Hayley Powell mystery was cheeky and very far-fetched. I love Sergio and his broken English but I’m not sure I agree that -after finding a murder victim at a Halloween party- everyone was forced to stay at said party with the body to amateur sleuth their way into solving the crime. Entertaining but very unbelievable.
Ross’ Maine Clambake Mystery was probably my favorite (surprising since I’m a huge Lucy Stone fan). The mystery was very interesting and I really loved all the characters. I haven’t read any of that series, but I’ll certainly be picking those up.
Overall, an excellent trip of halloween mystery stories. Definitely a must-read for fans of cozy mysteries, the northeast, and small town sleuths.

This book has three different stories in it by three different authors. Each one is entertaining and they have some really good recipes. There is humor, mystery, mayhem, and murder in this book I enjoyed reading it very much.

I received a copy of Halloween Party Murder through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Halloween Party Murder by Leslie Meier is a part of the Lucy Stone Mystery series. In this short mystery, Lucy, a reporter, is on the case as she tries to figure out who caused and overdose at the fundraiser Halloween party. I’ve read a few of the Lucy Stone mysteries and like the others, this mystery was well written and a quick read. Sometimes this series gets a little political, or too focused on current events, when I just want to escape all of that in my mysteries, but I still keep coming back for more. Overall it was a good mystery and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Death of a Halloween Party Monster by Lee Hollis is a part of the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails mystery series. In this mystery, Hayley is throwing a Halloween party at her restaurant when a body turns up in the kitchen. Hayley and the gang jump in to gear and search for the killer. The characters in this story are fun and make the story interesting. I enjoyed this Halloween mystery and look forward to looking into this series.

Scared Off by Barbara Ross is part of the Maine Clambake Mystery series. In this mystery, Julia is tasked with helping find the killer when a body turns up at the party her niece is attending. I really enjoyed this mystery and the characters. So much so that I look forward to starting this series from the beginning.

Overall this was a good set of mysteries to get you in the Halloween spirit!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this collection of Halloween cosy mysteries. I especially enjoyed the Barbara Ross mystery that is part of her Clambake series. I have not read the whole series, but have enjoyed each one that I have read. The characters are part of a very likable family in a Maine port town.

A Trio Of Treats...
A trio of treats for Halloween. Three cosy mysteries from authors at the top of their genre, each suitably atmospheric, each with well drawn casts of characters and entertaining storylines. Ideal holiday season reading.

It's Halloween! I can't think of a better way to celebrate the holidays than a trio of works by some of my favorite cozy mystery authors.

I skipped the Leslie Meier story, I don't read her books anymore.

Lee Hollis wrote a great closed-room story, where Hayley's Halloween party, the first big event in her new restaurant, is shattered by the murder of one of the guests. Who killed him? It had to be someone at the party, but who had the most motive? As always, Hollis keeps the reader laughing over the characters antics and drooling over Hayley's recipes. This is one of my favorite series.

The last story was written by Barbara Ross, part of her Maine Clambake series. I was thrilled that Julia broke up with Chris and I'm very excited to see a new development in this story (no spoilers!) At the end of October, Maine is hunkering down for winter and Julia gets in one last hurrah when her niece, Page, calls her on Halloween night asking for a ride home. A quiet slumber party at Page's friend's house turns into an all-out party, ending in the death of a local bookkeeper. None of the uninvited guests are too eager to speak up so Julia has to hunt down clues and solve the mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

We're halfway to Halloween so I needed a little Halloween goodness in my life. I have a soft spot for Halloween themed cozy mysteries and this book was a three-for-one bundle of ghoulish murders.

My favorite of the three stories was actually the last one, Scared Off by Barbara Ross. A teenage Halloween party grown out of control gets a shock when the body of a dead woman goes soaring through the air, wrapped up in a bedsheet like a Halloween ghost. The mystery was the trickiest one, and I didn't figure it out til close to the end.

My next favorite was the second story, Death of a Halloween Monster by Lee Hollis. This one features a creepy Pennywise costume and a dead body in the freezer. It even had a moment of thriller-like suspense, which is rare in these types of stories.

My third favorite (still good, just not as good) was the title story, Halloween Party Murder by Leslie Meier. A haunted house party gets cut short when one of the hosts is found dead in the upstairs bathtub. Honestly what put me off about this one was the politics in it - there's an election going on during the story. Considering the hot mess that politics have been lately, I just really didn't want them invading my guilty pleasure reading. Aside from that the story was your average small town murder mystery.

Sometimes you just need to have some easy reading, and cozy mysteries fill that spot for me. Also...bring on Halloween!
