I would love to live in a town like Crystal Cove and be able to attend all their festivals. Who wouldn’t love hanging out at the Cookbook Nook, especially with all that yummy food right next door at the Nook Cafe. This is a great story with different types of artists galore. The characters are wonderful and go together so well. I can’t wait to go back and hang with Jenna, Rhett, Tigger, Rook and the rest of the Crystal Cove population, some with some interesting secrets. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
Jenna is delighted to be a part of the upcoming fifth annual Art and Wine Festival, she was lucky enough to be chosen as one of a handful of people that will present their art work for judging. The group of chosen artists have been meeting to work on their pieces as well as getting to check out the competition. During their last meeting a couple of artists have words with one another and leave on an angry note. When the instigator of the fight is found dead later that night Jenna begins to worry. It looks like the man was killed with an artist tool that belongs to a good friend of hers. She is afraid that he will be arrested because several people saw the argument and the man was murdered with his tool. Jenna is sure her friend is being set up and starts looking into who else might have wanted the man dead and why. It soon becomes clear that there are quite a few people to choose from. She soon becomes embroiled in the investigation, putting herself in harms way. Can Jenna find a murderer before she herself ends up dead? This was a great read filled with a puzzle that wasn't obvious, fun characters, and idyllic scenery.
Jenna’s insatiable curiosity and dogged tenacity make her someone you’d like to have on your side if ever you were in trouble. The interesting settings and colorful characters add to the enjoyment of this book that can be read as a stand-alone apart from this series. Thanks to #NetGalley and #WiningAndDying for advanced digital copy..
Wining and Dying by Daryl Wood Gerber is another wonderful book in the Cookbook Nook Cozy Mysteries. I recommend it to anyone that wants a delicious and witty read. There’s always wonderful characters and delicious food in every one of the books in this series. While it’s great read in order there is enough back story to start right here!
Every time I think I've read the best book author Daryl Wood Gerber has written, just like that another one comes to take it's place. WINING AND DYING is proof of that. Ms. Gerber has a fan for life in me.
What I liked about this book is the police chief, Cinnamon, is now friends with Jenna and is willing to listen to Jenna's theories without dismissing them. I enjoy the characters, setting, and plot.
I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher and/or author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
We’re going back to visit the fine folks in Crystal Cove who are celebrating an Art and Wine Festival - one of the many themes the Mayor dreams up to keep visitors coming to their small coastal California Town.
During this festival, our main character – Jenna Hart – is a contestant in the art contest! Unfortunately, one of the other contestants – an abrasive young man named Quade - is murdered – and the #1 suspect is Jenna’s friend – and husband to her Bookstore’s Chef – Keller.
Though Jenna Hart runs a cooking related bookstore with a café, Jenna feels she must put her detective cap back on and figure out who the real murderer is so Chef Carrie’s hubby is cleared.
It seems as if every time they turn around, they are discovering someone else that has motive to have killed Quade. So, the mystery was intriguing enough to keep me guessing.
Wining and Dying is Daryl Wood Gerber’s 10th book in her Cookbook Nook Mystery series. Like most Cozy Series, it’s better enjoyed if you read the previous books. Yet, it also stands alone for new readers.
Daryl Woods Gerber is one of my favorite cozy authors. And, as with most series I enjoy reading, though the mystery draws me in, what keeps me coming back is the character’s growth and development.
This is where Gerber shines as we learn more about the stories of all of Jenna’s friends: new Mom Bailey, Cinnamon, the Police Chief, and her husband processing a miscarriage, and the aforementioned planning of Jenna’s wedding to Rhett while they’re also renovating their new home!
Gerber is a MASTER at wonderful, likeable characters. As well as great often relatable villains.
Wining and Dying was a nice and relaxing read full of yummy recipes. As always, Crystal Cove is a delight to revisit.
I gratefully received an Advanced Readers Copy from the author and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jenna Hart is excited that she is one of the artist finalists at the Crystal Cove Fifth Annual Art and Wine Festival. But tensions are rising as up & coming artist Quade verbally attacks rival Keller and persistently woos last year's winner Naomi Genet. Then Quade is found stabbed to death, Keller's distinctive tool is the murder weapon. Keller's chef wife Katie works for Jenna at the Nook cafe and she is determined to help clear his name. Other suspects include Naomi's estranged husband Christopher and Destiny, Quade's former lover turned winery tour guide, and art instructor Yardley who has a hidden close relationship with the victim. With the help of her bestie friend Briana, Jenna decides to confront her prime suspect before she makes a getaway.
This was another enjoyable read in the Cookbook Nook mystery series. I received a digital ARC from Netgalley and Beyond the Page Publishing with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
"Crystal Cove is buzzing with the launch of its fifth annual Art and Wine Festival, when local wineries are paired with local artists to show off their latest creations. Jenna’s thrilled to be showing one of her own amateur paintings at the fair, but her excitement quickly fades when an up-and-coming artist is murdered. What’s more, all the evidence points to a good friend of Jenna’s as the culprit, and she’ll have to use all her wits to prove his innocence before he paints himself into a corner.
Certain that her friend is being framed, Jenna tries to blend in as she starts digging into an array of colorful suspects, including a tech guru with a penchant for stalking women, the mayor’s wayward son, and an older art instructor who might have been closer to the victim than anyone would have guessed. Jenna will have to wine and dine her way through all the clues before she can see the full picture and put the real killer behind bars—all the while avoiding her own brush with death . . ."
I am so glad I rediscovered this cozy series! For whatever reason I lost track of this series, but thanks to some browsing on NetGalley I stumbled upon the latest Cookbook Nook installment. I was a little afraid of feeling like I would be out of the loop, but happily this book can be read as a standalone. The characters are delightful and engaging. The plotline kept me guessing and unable to put this book down.
I am so happy to reconnect with Jenna and the crew and I can't wait to play catch up and go back and see what I missed in Crystal Cove.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for the ARC of this book.
Another great book in the series. I have come to love these characters as they are likable, relatable, entertaining, and supportive of one another. The setting is fun and welcoming. With each new festival in Crystal Cove, I am inspired to try something new. The mystery is full of twists and turns and redirects to keep you guessing until the end.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
I would like to live in Crystal Cove. Sounds like a fun place. The town is having the annual art show. Jenna is a finalist, but she knows she won't win. There is plenty of talent in the running. When one of the finalists ends up dead and her friend is accused, she knows she has to help solve the crime. She puts herself in danger and her fiancee and family are not very happy about that, but she is driven to find the truth. Good mystery.
There is never a dull moment in Crystal Cove and this week it is the 5th annual Art and Wine Festival. Cookbook Nook owner Jenna Hart is excited about the recognition that her own amateur painting has received but there seems to be a lot of problems brewing in the art scene. This causes a violent end for one of the artists.
The details and descriptions in this story are so well done that you cannot help but envision the setting and immediately feel comfortable with the characters. Thanks to Beyond the Page publishing and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
I will leave a review on Amazon or B&N on April 27th
Wining and Dying is the tenth book in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series, and it continues to be an enjoyable series. I continue to find this to be an entertaining cozy series, and look forward to reading more books in the future. I certainly would recommend this series to those that enjoy cozies!
I received a ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and all opinions expressed here are my own.
Wining and Dying by Daryl Wood Gerber (Cookbook Nook Mystery #10) 3.5 stars
Jenna Hart, owner of the Cookbook Nook is excited to be participating in an art contest within the 5th Annual Art and Wine Festival. The winner will have their art featured in the festival's advertisements the following year. Other entries in the art contest, include Keller, the husband of Chef Katie who works at the Cookbook Nook and Quade, a mixed media artist who is a bit of a jerk. Unfortunately, Quade is found dead in his cabin, and Keller, Katie's husband is framed for his murder. Jenna will have to use her natural curiosity and determination to find the real culprit and get her friend's husband off the hook.
This is the 10th Cookbook Nook mystery and follows a pretty standard plot. What makes this long running series enjoyable are all the supporting characters and the progression of their lives. The mystery itself is a familiar one of unlikable (maybe criminal) victim and a boatload of suspects. The killer is front and center at the beginning of the story, but since there are other suspects we are all sent down various roads. This book was a little slow in the beginning, but it quickly picked up the pace. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you Netgalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for this ARC.
This is another enjoyable entry in the Cookbook Nook mystery series. I like the way the characters grow and evolve from one book to the next. And the ever changing festivals keep the series fresh. But the main character, Jenna, continues to put herself and her friends in danger which is one of my pet peeves in a cozy mystery.
It's time for another fun festival in Crystal Cove, California (The 5th Annual Art & Wine Festival to be precise!) and Jenna find herself smack dab in the middle of another murder investigation when one of the participating artists is murdered in his cabana at the local inn! Quade, although incredibly talented, wasn't a very likable fellow, and it turns out he may have been participating in some questionable activities on the side. Daryl Wood Gerber's latest Cookbook Nook Mystery, Wining and Dying, was a quick and fun read, and kept this reader guessing! A+
In this latest edition of the Crystal Cove Cookbook Nook Mysteries, you find the sleuthing happening during the backdrop of a wine and art festival. As someone who loves wine themed cozy mysteries, I was drawn to the title, and the description. Jenna, the main character and bookstore owner, as well as amatuer sleuth, is a finalist in the annual art contest, and is drawn into the investigation when a friend is accused of murdering one of the other contestants. Along with other friends, you are pulled along with her as she discovers clue after clue to not only clear her friend, but to discover who actually killed the fellow artist.
I have to admit to not having read all the books in this series, but the author does such a wonderful job bringing you into the story that if you have not read any of the others, you will not be lost. It could stand alone. However, from having read others in this series, I know how great the writing is and do recommend checking the others out. I myself intend to do so.
One of the things I love about this series is the characters, and the setting. Taking place in the fictional town of Crystal Cove, I can almost picture where it is, and all the people there. I feel like I can walk down the street and greet each of the townsfolk by name. I also enjoy the addition of book titles, and food descriptions, even if my stomach growls while reading them. Luckily, many of the recipes are included in the back for those who wish to try them. In this one, I am thinking of making the wine cookies. They sound wonderful!
I recommend this book to those who love this series as they will find this to be a wonderful edition, and fabulous story. To those who have not read the series, and want a nice romp with some well written characters, and good mystery that gives you twists and turns to find out whodunit, I also highly recommend it.
Wining and Dying is the 10th book in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series and it is a wonderful addition. It is the 5th Annual Art and Wine Festival which has wineries and artists in town for the event. Jenna and her Aunt Vera own the Cookbook Nook and Nook Cafe and friends Bailey and Katie work there. Jenna is participating in an art poster contest. The other participants add interest to the story. One of the artists winds up dead and a friend is a suspect so Jenna and friends are drawn into the investigation. It is an enjoyable cozy mystery with likable characters and an interesting cozy mystery. #NetGalley #BeyondThePagePublishing
Wining and Dying is book 10 in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series by Daryl Wood Gerber.
There is a wine and arts festival taking place and Jenna is a finalist in the art competition. All is going well until until another contestant is murdered. When a friend of Jenna’s is accused, she gets involved.
This was an interesting mystery with plenty of suspects. Every time I had it figured out, another person with a motive came to light. The description of the area and the festival made me feel like I was there.
I really enjoy seeing how the characters have grown and relationships have progressed through this series.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Out To Frame...
The tenth Cookbook Nook mystery in which Jenna Hart is faced with the murder of a local artist. When her good friend becomes suspect number one Jenna is certain that someone is framing him. Enjoyable cosy crime with a likeable protagonist in, sometime amateur sleuth, Jenna and a colourful cast of supporting characters. A worthy addition to this long running series although could happily be read as a standalone. Includes recipes.
