Brooklyn Wainwright is a book restoration expert. She is now happily married and has found someone who truly understands her passion for solving murders. Along with new husband Derek Stone, they make an awesome team. In this latest book in the Bibliophile series, it’s Saturday morning, and a book that Brooklyn receives in the mail sets the plot for this story in motion.

Brooklyn has received a very rare edition of Rebecca, with a note inside the cover. Her friend Claire Quinn asks her to use her expertise and to bring the book back to life. The two had met previously while filming a television show and they both share a love for rare and vintage books.

Brooklyn was surprised when Claire arrives from across the pond in disguise as she feels her life is now in danger. Derek steps in and begins asking Claire some questions. As it turns out, Claire has recently experienced some near misses, and these were serious, because her life was at stake each time. Not only that, Claire had been receiving notes and phone calls that increased her sense of foreboding.

Now that she is with Brooklyn and Derek, Claire hopes to find the answers she needs and be able to discover why someone apparently wants her dead. As it seems, the threats have followed her, and it just might be due to her possession of the book she sent Brooklyn.

Cozy mysteries are a passion of mine. Bringing in the love of books makes them even better. I have devoured this entire Bibliophile series and really enjoyed this installment as well.

Many thanks to Berkley and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is the 15th book in the Bibliophile Mystery series and it is the first book I have read from this author. With that said, you can jump right into the series and you don't feel lost as Kate Carlisle does a great job of introducing you to the characters. I will definitely look at reading more of this series in the future.

I loved this installment of the series and learning more about what the life of a book restorationist is like. One of my favorite jobs I've seen in a cozy series.

Another enjoyable book related mystery from Kate Carlisle, this time in the beautiful setting of Scotland.

Derek and Brooklyn are back in San Francisco after their trip to Dharma. They have barely unpacked when Derek receives a package from Scotland. Why would someone send Derek a 1st edition book? Who does Derek know in Scotland?

Claire Quinn is in trouble and needs some help and quick which leads her from Scotland to San Francisco and straight to Derek and Brooklyn. After explaining about her missing Aunt Gwen who send a book to Derek. Some shady people are looking for Claire but no one knows why?

This book took our threesome from San Francisco to Dharma all the way to Scotland to find out what was going on and whose responsible? This book had so much adventure and intrigue going on. You found yourself wondering until you reached the end. This book series is definitely worth the adventure to see how it all played out.

Little Black Book is the 15th Bibliophile Mystery written by Kate Carlisle. I've read all of her Fixer-Upper Mysteries and now I am fully current in this series, as her newest releases later this spring. What a great feeling! In this installment, Brooklyn and Dylan are almost done building their new home in Sonoma County, but when they return to SF after a brief trip to check in with the architect, Derek receives a copy of the classic novel, Rebecca, in the mail. A former contact from MI6 sent it to him without any explanation, but then the woman's niece, strangely a friend of Brooklyn's that neither knew about, shows up on their doorstep. Moments later, she tells the story of two ruthless men who've been trying to kill her, only one of them ends up dead in the parking garage.

Authors need to mix up their approach to storytelling lest they be accused of getting too repetitive. That's exactly what transpired here... the first half of the book took place in SF and Dharma (Sonoma County) and had a slow build-up of the woman's background and why the two men were chasing her. It turned out to be connected to a Scottish castle, and so... Brooklyn and Dylan travel to Scotland for the last half of the book. That's where they meet 6 different suspects and the story is rich with history about the laird of the castle. Truthfully, the first half was kinda boring and didn't need to be included. It would have been great if 1 or 2 intro chapters covered the background and then the Scottish trip began, as that was the best part. All came together nicely in the end, and I enjoyed the book very much. Just thought it could've been a 5-star if there was some tighter editing in this one.

Little Black Book is the 15th book in the wonderful Bibliophile Mystery series by the amazing Kate Carlisle. I love this series and was excited to read it and it didn't disappoint. Brooklyn Is a book restoration expert and her husband Derek is a security expert. Derek receives a British first edition of the book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier in the mail. They find it odd and then odd things start to happen. Claire Quinn who Brooklyn knew from the past shows up on their doorstep. Claire's Aunt is missing and Claire knows her Aunt sent something to Derek. Brooklyn and Derek help her try to locate her Aunt. They start in San Francisco, head to Dharma and then to Scotland, so we get to see many characters from the other books in this series which is fun. The trio are followed from place to place but they work together and stay one step ahead, although it is difficult at times. It is all very exciting and the book was very hard to put down! I had a couple of late nights reading. It is an awesome cozy mystery with likable interesting characters, an intriguing mystery, a bit of romance, and humor. It has everything I love about cozy mysteries. It was even better than the last couple of books (which I really liked) because there was more focus on the cozy mystery in this one. Little Black Book was totally enjoyable and I loved every minute of it. #NetGalley #BerkleyPublishing #KateCarlisle #LittleBlackBook

Derek has received a rare first edition of REBECCA but the sender is unknown. Brooklyn assumes that it was really meant for her because the book needs some TLC, however when Claire Quinn arrives at their door asking about the package, matters take a different turn. Claire , an expert on antique weapons that Brooklyn worked with on THIS OLD ATTIC, is concerned about her missing aunt and the only clue she has is the receipt for the package sent to Derek. Claire becomes a target of several burly men (who later turn up dead) and she has no idea why. Derek and Brooklyn believe that a code found in the book could be the answer but the code has to be broken. Enlisting not just Brooklyn's family in Dharma but Derek's in UK, the three head to Scotland to try to find the missing aunt and solve the mystery.

Great mystery with characters coming back from previous adventures and more reveals of Derek's past. GREAT!

This is book 15 in the Bibliophile Mystery series. The series is set in San Francisco but this story travels to Scotland and involves some of Derek's M5 colleagues. Brooklyn receives a copy of Rebecca in the mail and Derek recognizes the name on the return address. When Claire arrives at the house with a tale of murder and mayhem surrounding this book they need to solve the mystery before anyone dies. Lots of returning characters but the book could be read as a stand alone. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Kate Carlisle gets the reader engaged in the latest Bibliophile mystery Little Black Book. Brooklyn and her secret operative husband Derek Stone receive a mysterious copy of Rebecca from a previous colleague of Derek's in M16. Then the niece of the lady appears at Brooklyn's home in San Francisco. Bodies start dropping; the couple follow the action to a laird's home in Scotland. Interesting book repair lore and Scottish lore.

This Bibliophile Mystery series has quickly become one of my favorite Cozy Mystery series. LITTLE BLACK BOOK marks the fifteenth book in the series and Kate Carlisle is showing no signs of stopping. This book swept me off my feet easily and kept me entertained until the very end.

Of course a special book is the main focus of this book. However, the twist is that the book doesn’t come to Brooklyn. It is actually address to Derek and it came all the way from Scotland. Then, when a mysterious old friend appears, they have to figure out how the two connect and find out what is really going on about this book and their friend’s grandmother’s disappearance.

Like I said, this book hooked me in from the beginning. I loved that Carlisle is keeping the romance between Derek and Brooklyn at the forefront of the series and making them both a focus rather than just one of them. It makes the romantic in me very happy to see them working together because it adds to the mystery and the whodunit nature by adding another dimension to the series. I already can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Always enjoy catching up with these characters. Would have loved to have the recipes for Alex's cupcakes.

The 15th book in the Bibliophile Mystery series brings Brooklyn and Derek to Scotland. I read a lot of cozy mysteries, but the Bibliophile series is one of my favorites. There are a lot of recurring characters throughout the series, and they each bring a different type of humor to the stories. Derek, who is former British military and a security expert, does not condescend to Brooklyn when she is trying to solve the crime. Instead, they are partners working together. Brooklyn knows her limitations and does not purposefully put herself into danger.

This book revolved mostly around Claire, who worked with Brooklyn on the antiques TV show in a previous book. Her aunt is missing in Scotland, and strangers seem to be tracking her movements and then dying. Brooklyn, Derek, and Claire eventually travel to Scotland to find the missing aunt and discover more mysteries along the way.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I love these types of cozy mysteries. Kate Carlisle does a lovely job of keeping her stories wholesome and fresh. There are always plot twists and turns that are surprising, and the "whodunnit" is never quite who I think it will be. I am grateful for the freshness of this series, and I am grateful, that despite the fact they are murder mysteries, they never leave me feeling scarred, scared or exhausted. Great, refreshing palette cleansing reading, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have read this one!

Little Black Book, the fifteenth book in the long-running Bibliophile Mystery Series finds book restorer Brooklyn and her dashing husband Derek embroiled in a convoluted mystery that includes a missing person, murder, antique weapons, international travel, and, of course, rare books.

I have enjoyed this series so much over the years, and, after fifteen installments, these characters feel like good friends…slightly annoyingly perfect friends, but fabulous to hang out with. In a series twist, Derek receives a package containing a copy of Rebecca, and Brooklyn’s former acquaintance, antique weapons expert Claire (from book #8 The Book Stops Here), arrives to claim the package she believes was sent by her missing Aunt Gwyneth. Gwyneth happens to be Derek’s former coworker at MI6. Claire has recently had some scary encounters with some unsavory men, and one has followed her and is murdered at Brooklyn’s building. Fearing for Claire’s safety, the trio travels to Dharma then follow the clues to Scotland. As the body count rises, they must solve a puzzle from the past that ties to the present.

As always, author Kate Carlisle spins a compelling yarn full of suspense and danger. Most of this book takes place in Scotland, and the wonderful castle setting is a welcome change of venue (I love the regular San Francisco and wine country settings just as much) and reinforces the gothic feel of Rebecca. Though the book plays a pivotal role in solving the mystery, I wish it had been featured even more.

Because of the trans-Atlantic action, readers see very little of the regular supporting characters, and I missed them. Brooklyn’s quirky family is always a joy. It is, however, nice to get to know Claire better. Let’s face it, she is a weapons’ wizard. Brooklyn and Derek have settled nicely into married life, and their chemistry is still palpable and endearing, even when they get a little too syrupy.

Little Black Book is a highly entertaining biblio-centric mystery. Highly recommended to fans of Carlisle and anyone looking for a well written, quality cozy mystery.

I can't. I tried to hang in there, I really did. I've read the previous 14 books in this series and liked each one less and less. They are just sooo formulaic and repetitive. Just like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, if you've read one Bibliophile mystery, you've literally read them all.

I am giving up about 40% of the way into this one because I just can't make myself care anymore. Carlisle once again clutters up her plot by waxing poetic about cupcakes and charcuterie, going into superfluous book binding detail, adding meal descriptions for EVERY meal, etc. I skim half of these books to get to something worth reading and there's never a good love scene, I give up hoping there ever will be.

Once again someone gets murdered who you don't care about. Once again they go hang out in weird Dharma with Brooklyn's extensive family and friends. The characters are deteriorating into cliches real fast and I can't hang.

Another fantastic book in the series. Brooklyn & Derek end up in Scotland as they try to find out the mystery around another book - one of my favorites - Rebecca. It kept me guessing, and I can always do with more of the Stone brothers!

Thank you to the author, publisher & NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review. - I hope there are many more of these to come.

Before discussing Kate Carlisle’s fifteenth Bibliophile mystery, Little Black Book, I wanted to praise the cover artist. Because I read a .PDF, I have no idea who Berkley picked for the artist, but this cover is just stunning, and details are so accurate, from the cat to the tiny helicopter over the castle. It’s an eye-catching cover.

Bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright and her husband, security expert Derek Stone have piles of mail when they return to the San Francisco home after time visiting Brooklyn’s family in Dharma. While Derek naturally expects that a book in the mail is for Brooklyn, she notices it’s addressed to him, and it came from Scotland. Inside is a first edition, signed copy of Daphne du Maurier’s gothic classic Rebecca. He’s still trying to decide why Gwyneth Quinn, who once worked with him at MI6 would send him the book, when Gwyneth’s niece shows up. Brooklyn recognizes Claire Quinn. She worked with her for two weeks on the TV show, “This Old Attic”. Claire in an antique weaponry expert. But, she’s in San Francisco because Gwyneth is missing, and Claire wants to know what package she sent to Derek.

Although Derek and Brooklyn are cautious in dealing with Claire, her story of Gwyneth’s ransacked apartment and being followed rings true, especially after Alex, their neighbor, reports a man in the parking garage, and she and Derek find a dead man by his car. Claire can identify him from the night he tried to deliver a pizza, and a neighbor helped scare him off. When the trio heads to Dharma, and another man is killed there, Derek decides it’s time to take their search for answers to the source. The trio heads to Oddlochen, Scotland.

While I loved the setting in Oddlochen, Little Black Book wasn’t my favorite book in the series. Brooklyn was too nervous and jumpy in the first half of the book. Perhaps, now that she’s married, she realizes she has someone she worries about, a hostage to fortune. But, she came across as a little too whiny and high-strung in the early stages of the mystery. The mystery behind the mystery seemed a little convoluted with a large cast of suspects.

It’s always interesting to see what book will serve as background to the Bibliophile mysteries. As a fan of the gothic romances of the 1970s, I enjoyed the discussion of books by Phyllis A. Whitney and Victoria Holt. Of course, there was mention of the Brontes and the story of Rebecca. Maybe in the next book, though, Brooklyn might not be as jumpy as a gothic heroine.
