Darn, this is a fantastic read. I was riveting from the beginning. I read the entire book in one sitting, barely pausing. The action is exciting all the way to the end. It's packed full of memorable events and sick people, especially a violent bully and a perv killer. I like to collect colorful phrases and one uttered by Elliott that made me laugh was gas station breath. That hat wearing Texas transplant has worked his way into my affections. I can't wait to read what happens next between he and Kay. I love all the forensics and pyschology used throughout the plot. Who will perish next?

I have not read the first Kay Sharp book but this book was still very good and not hard to follow, with a solid plot line and all the elements of a crime suspense novel. I definitely would recommend this book and I plan to read the first book in this series. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

This second book in Wolfe's Kay Sharp series does not disappoint. Kay finds herself searching for 2 different missing girls, their disappearances separated by years but somehow related. The discovery of a murdered young woman sets Kay and her team on the search for answers. Meanwhile, her partner Elliot is trying to find a runaway teen, the daughter of a wealthy man in the Mount Chester area. Both cases keep overlapping. Meanwhile, Kay is also tasked by her former FBI boss to investigate a possible leak in the police department related to domestic abuse by one of her fellow officers. Interwoven with these plot lines are chapters told from the perspective of a rapist and murderer. It's an exciting and intriguing race to find the truth and prevent any further violence.

A complicated case for Kay and the team. A girl is found dead, but is it really the girl they thought they found? So many secrets in the small town Kay was not ever supposed to go back to, and now she's drawn into the drama. This book has any twist and turns, some very unexpected, and maybe even unusual. Something as small as a locket may hide many secrets as well as answers.

Kay has to dig deep into old cold cases to solve the latest murder. Uncomfortable truths are about to be reveled, and Kay still has to live her own life, as well as facing her old demons. This is a good sequel to the first book in the series, which by the looks of it, will be a series worth investing your time in.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Beneath Blackwater River, the second novel to feature Detective Kay Sharp of the Mount Chester, California Sheriff’s Office.

When the body of a teenager is found in Blackwater River Kay is put in charge of the investigation. An unusual locket found with body and DNA analysis suggest that the girl is Rose Harrelson who went missing as a three year old fourteen years ago, but locals identify her as Alyssa Caldwell, a local teenager. Getting at the truth will uncover a web of lies and deceit.

I thoroughly enjoyed Beneath Blackwater River which is an engrossing read with plenty of action and some good twists in the solution. It is told from various points of view but chiefly Kay and Kirsten, a runaway teenager whose disappearance is being investigated by Detective Elliot Young, Kay’s partner.

The murder and the runaway are the main strands of the novel, but there are other strands, like the kidnapping of Rose Harrelson, that play into these narratives and contribute to the final gobsmacking revelations. I’m not one for hyperbole, so I don’t use the word gobsmacking lightly. I felt my jaw dropping on every page as the hits kept coming. Is it realistic? No, but it’s incredibly entertaining and a fitting end to a good story. The build up to these revelations, i.e. the bulk of the novel, is a mixture of tension, suspense and puzzlement as the reader tries to work out what fits where. Some of it is easy to guess, much of it isn’t, but it’s fun trying and curiosity inducing.

Kay Sharp was an FBI profiler when she returned to Mount Chester for family reasons. Now she has decided to stay and has accepted a job with the Sheriff’s Office. This decision is based in her attraction to Elliot Young and it plays a part in her character development. I can’t be bothered with the will they, won’t they scenario so I’m not invested and don’t think it adds much to the novel.

Beneath Blackwater River is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This is the second book in the Kay Sharp series and just let me say that I am so excited about this series. I loved the first book and couldn’t wait for the next and I was not disappointed. The author, Leslie Wolfe has written such great characters. This was a roller coaster of a story with so many twists and surprises at every turn that I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next in the series. Thank you Netgalley for my ARC.

Kay Sharp is back in Leslie Wolfe's Beneath Blackwater River... when a couple gets engaged in a very romantic setting, they are shocked to find a body of a young woman floating nearby. With her usual passion, Kay dives into this case, whilst working on relationships at home and work. When the identification of the young woman proves troublesome, Kay proves once again how smart and gritty she is. With support from a fantastic crew of secondary characters, Kay truly shines. I liked this book even better than the first one!

This novel has quite a few twisted mysteries in a very intricate plot, and it's very well written. The characters are excellent, and the book is easy to read even though there is some jumping around. Very entertaining.

Book two starring Dr Sharp and Detective Elliot Young and I can assure you it’s as good or maybe even better than the first one.
Both detectives are working well together and the air is more than sizzling between them. Will they give in yet or will the author let the tension build up a little more? Well, that for me to know already and for you to still find out.
Sharp and Young are called in when a murder victim has been discovered. They team up, but then Elliot is assigned another case. They don’t seem to be connected at all or do they?
Murder, kidnapping, abuse, beautiful but forbidden love are a few of the ingredients of this fantastic book. There is a lot more going on than meets the eye and it’s all there for you to find out if, correction, when you decide to read or rather devour the book too.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I loved it.
I have read some fantastic books the last couple of years and when I thought I had seen it all, the authors kept surprising me with more wonderful and thrilling stories.
Authors are magicians and they put a spell on their readers. Thank you for making my mind working overtime. 5 stars.

Thank you, Leslie Wolfe and Bookouture

Detective Kay Sharp never intended to return to her tiny hometown of Mount Chester, but when a seventeen year old girl is murdered, Kay is sent back to head the investigation. Kay discovers the locket the dead girl was wearing belonged to a toddler named Rose, who disappeared 14 years earlier. But DNA shows that the dead girl is not Rose, so how did she get the missing girl’s necklace? Mount Chester may be a small community, but it has some huge secrets, as Kay is about to discover

What a fast and fun crime thriller, the second in a series, an excellent followup to the first installment.

Dr. Kay Sharp, formerly of the San Francisco FBI field office, now resides in her hometown of Mount Chester and is working for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department as a detective. She and her new partner, Deputy Elliot Young, are called to attend the discovery of a body behind the falls at Blackwater River. The 17-year-old has been left with her throat cut and wears an unusual locket on her neck. DNA identifies the murdered victim as Rose Harrelson -- the interesting bit being that she had been reported as kidnapped 14 years ago. Of course this sends up red flags to the detectives and soon there is more drama when the press publishes the story only to find out that they have misidentified the dead girl and everyone knows her as Alyssa Caldwell, the only daughter of a rich local family and heir to the Caldwell Farms fortune. Of course Kay is not satisfied that the scientific analysis was an error and she beings to investigate the kidnapping case that was never solved. Meanwhile, a runaway has found her way to Mount Chester by various means and is held captive in an old house by a vicious psychopath. There's a lot going on in this book and it has quite a few twists and turns that made it a very compelling read.

I must say that I liked this much more than the first book and I sat, glued to the pages, until I reached the dramatic conclusion. The revelations weren't entirely unexpected as I am a very good guesser having read so many books of this type, but I really enjoyed the writing and the way that the author dangled the red herrings and the details giving me the clues I needed. The narrative is full of action and drama and it was very hard to put down until the end. I was gratified that the story didn't contain a lot of romance though it is definitely imminent. I like both Kay and Elliot as characters and even more since I'm getting to "know" them. I look forward to the next book in this series and am only sorry that it will likely be a long wait having been spoiled by reading the first and second consecutively.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend.
