SUCH A CUTE BOOK! My 6yo is obsessed with Godzilla and Kong, so I was very happy to find such a fun book for kids. The premise is that friendships can happen no matter how different the two are, and I love the way the message is portrayed!
While I'm not a King Kong fan, I get the appeal. The aesthetic here is strong. Thorpe works hard to make Kong sympathetic, a kind creature who sometimes loses his temper. The story, such as it is, is basic and easy to follow.
'Kong & Me' with story by Kiki Thorpe with illustrations by Nidhi Chanani is an ebook about a small girl with a very big friend.
The setting is a remote tropical island where the mighty Kong lives with his friend, a young girl. Even though these friends are very different in many ways, they don't care what other people say. He's just not very good at hide and seek.
This is a really cute story and the illustrations are wonderful. I liked the lesson about making friends, even with those who are different from us.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Legendary Comics and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
Thanks to Legendary Comics and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
A cute book by Kiki Thorpe and with good illustrations by Nidhi Chanani. The book is about friendship between a small girl and her giant sized gorilla friend, Kong. Is not a retelling of the King Kong story but there are a lot of similarities in the tale in this book. King Kong won over by the beauty, here Kong is friends with a little girl. But despite their differences the two are friends, sometimes they like the same things, and other times they don't. But they accept each other and have fun with each other and isn't what life is all about.
Enjoyable book that would be a fun read to small children.
Such a cute story. I really enjoyed this one. I loved that it was a simple and straightforward book and the illustrations were done well.

It's a re- tell of the classic King Kong from the girl's POV for children. The storyline and the drawing are both very cute about the oddly sized friends who's a mismatch, but somehow, they make it work. Kong built a sand castle the girl plays inside, girl takes a swim in Kong's palms etc.
They have their differences but they help each other to make it work.
What a great read!! The illustrations were amazing and so beautiful to look at. This is a story of how friendship can come in all shapes and sizes and how to work through differences in said friendships. Highly recommend this book to children for a fun and quick read.
Cute story about differences and how that can make friendship stronger. The art is beyond gorgeous. It is a bit weird to see Kong as a loveable buddy instead of destroying the city or protecting his land lol
This was such a cute book! This is about the friendship between Kong, a huge Gorilla, and a little girl. They both do lots of activities together and enjoy a lot.
What I liked about this book is that Kong and the little girl do face some problems because of their differences. But, they somehow work around it and find a common ground to keep hanging out with each other. This is a great message to the kids: Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes. All you have to do is treat each other with kindness and find a common ground.
Illustrations are bright and beautiful. Kong and the little girl are really adorable.
This is ideal for kids and the middle grade. Honestly, I think everyone can enjoy a cute kid's book. Good for individual or group reading sessions.
Will recommend!
This one is a good one-seating read for adults and maybe two or three for kids (or mine, at least). It tells about how friendship could overcome differences, even gigantic ones. And how two could love one another over their differences.
This was such a cute book! It had a lovely little story to it and the visuals of the illustrations were beautiful!
Friendships come in many shapes and forms, Kong and Me is a fun way of showing little ones that differences can be a wondrous thing. The words by Kiki Thorpe may seem simple but have a big impact and are clearly chosen wisely. The bold illustrations by Nidhi Chanani will make everyone smile, and the style fits marvellously with the story.
A satisfying experience and that I know will give joy to anyone who picks it up.
Kong and Me
Already a big fan of Kiki Thorpe's 'The Never Girls', Isabella was very excited to read her latest title. Here is what we thought...

It has a great moral, it shows everyone is different and it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, what colour skin you have, whether you're big or small - you can be friends with anyone, and thats how important friendship is!
The pictures are really bright but i would have liked a bit more detail in the backgrounds because i like looking at the pictures.
I really liked this book and I want to read it again.

This is such a lovely book for little children to read it tackles some really difficult issues but in a fun child-friendly way. It is a great book for children to read either by themselves, due to the simple language, or by an adult at bed time, as the rhyming patterns are really engaging.
The book is truly beautiful and inviting, the illustrations compliment the text perfectly and are so detailed and charming. I think it is crucial for children books to look appealing to a chid, and 'Kong and Me' definitely ticks that box.

OK, good choice having Nidhi Chanani illustrate this cute picture book about the friendship between King Kong and a little child. It is enough to make fans of Nidhi pick up the book just for that and the story isn't that bad.
Quick, rhyming story of how despite their differences, the child and Kong have a good relationship, and are there for each other.
And friendship amongst people who aren't the same is a good concept to drill home.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
What a sweet story! Kids will get a kick out of seeing Kong as part of their story time and that will keep them engaged while they hear a lovely tale about cherishing friends and appreciating our differences.
The illustrations are gorgeous--beautifully saturated and grand in scale. They'll only add to the appeal. This book would work equally well in large group, small group, and individual reading scenarios.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Full of bright colors and sweet characters, this book will be the new story you read to your kids over and over again. As a mother of 5 little babies, I know they would all enjoy this sweet story of unlikely friendships and adventures.
This was a fun read my son really liked it as well. The illustrations are beautiful. I loved the message of friendship regardless of size or differences. I liked how both of the characters worked through their differences and continued as great friends.
Well, I thought this was a success. It's a rhymed book from the point of view of a human child whose favourite friend is, er, King Kong. So never mind the trauma someone will face when they read this and then age a few years and see the films, where Kong is slightly less kindly. What we have here does noticeably lose the meter of the verse at times, but it's generally a strong text, talking of how disparate people can be best friends, and the art is fine. Nice touches, such as Kong's cupped hands creating a paddling pool for the kid, show the class on offer.
Next, someone gets to take Godzilla to school as a show-and-tell, and the series will finish with Cthulhu at the adoption centre.
I truly loved the story of a little girl and her giant friend in Kong and Me.
The illustrations were fantastic, the message was good and for once the rhymes actually rolled off the tongue nicely and didn't feel forced!
Well worth a read.
I wonder how such good storybooks keep coming up. Kudos to the author, the artist and the publishing team for such an amazing, heartwarming story.
Such a tiny human being friends with a most unlikely "beast". What matters the most is the connection. Love it.
Thank you for the advance reading copy.
