A lovely story

Eve and her grandpa visit the lake everyday. There's a duck family with momma duck and two little ducklings. Eve wants to make friends with them and slowly learns that getting close to wild animals takes caution, time and patience.

I very much enjoyed reading this book. The illustrations are lovely and add so much detail to the book. I like the message of respecting nature and animals all around us. A cute children's story.

I enjoyed the illustrations, but wouldn't read this to the littles as it encourages disruptive behavior that can be dangerous for both children and wildlife.

One chilly spring day, a young girl named Eve and her grandfather visit a nearby lake together for the very first time. Fascinated by a pair of baby ducklings frolicking in the water, Eve finds herself drawn to the playful creatures and wishing to hold, pat, and hug them. Mother duck is not happy about Eve getting too close to her babies, though! After a disappointing attempt at making contact, Eve and her grandfather choose to visit the playground together instead of the lake. However, several days later, Eve decides to try one last time to attract the ducklings using a different approach.

This intergenerational story celebrates the love between a grandfather and his young granddaughter. Parents of young children will recognize Eve’s enthusiasm, especially in two- to three-year-olds. Short, descriptive phrases and abundant dialogue make this book well-suited to preschool-aged readers, and it is designed to be especially enjoyable as a lap read.

The beautifully rendered illustrations are noteworthy on their own and serve to bring this story to life. Textured in unexpected ways, they perfectly capture the feeling of a chilly spring day with dappled sky and soft, green grass. Greens, blues, and yellows inherent to springtime fill each image, and readers can almost smell the park Eve and her grandfather are exploring. Background clues like an adjacent city skyline, palm trees, and cattails place the setting very specifically, while the jackets and hats worn by Eve and her grandfather indicate the outside temperature without textual context. Readers of all ages will be drawn to the cheery characters and the captivating visuals within this story.

At once a story about intergenerational love between a grandfather and his granddaughter and an example of the power of tenacity, Eve’s Ducklings draws readers into the dynamic and precious world of an inquisitive young child. Preschool-aged readers will especially connect with Eve’s story and look forward to sharing it with their grandparents.

Loved this adorable picture book so perfect for this new springtime weather.

Eve takes daily walks with her grandfather in the park. One day they encounter a mama duck with her ducklings. Eve REALLY wants to touch and hold them (who wouldn't?), but each time she tries she encounters a new problem. They go back each day, but no luck, so Eve decides to give them their space. By the end, she finally figures out the trick to getting the ducklings to be her friend.

This book is the perfect gift for/from grandparents (or other older adult family members) because of the sweet intergenerational relationship depicted here. Grandparents' Day in the U.S. is in September and with a publishing date of July 1st, the timing is quite perfect.

Highly recommend for classrooms and libraries for kids preK to 2.

Thank you to the author and Bonny Books for an early peek at this sweet book.

This book is about taking care of each other and things that we love. It is about spending time in the now with family and friends, and bonding over hobbies.

I think children will eat this story up. The art was so cute!

A gentle tale of a little girl and her grandpa attempting to make friends with ducklings. Lovely illustrations and a bit of a cautionary tale. Will resinate with any child who has been to the park to feed the ducks.

Really cute art and a simple story about how your desires always have to take into account what others want too. And that it's best when what you want and what they want go together. Simple but important story.

This is a sweet picture book of a little girl spending time at the park with her grandpa over several days. The park has a playground but Eve's favorite part is the ducks in the lake. Eve really wants to hold a duckling and learns the hard way that it is better to just look at them and feed them. The cutest part is the last picture showing the ducks sleeping under the hat Eve lost. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy.

It was a fun read about Eve and her grandpa's adventures during their walk in the park. My 5-year old had no trouble breezing past this. She identified herself in Eve and as such, learnt a lesson from her too.

An adorable book about a girl who is curious with the ducklings she saw on the park. The book also (sort of) teaches kids how to observe, not touch animals- especially wild animals. The illustrations are lovely and colorful!

Eves Ducklings is a sweet story about Eve and her grandfather. Eve wants to try and let or hold the ducklings at the park and finds mischievous ways to do so. I enjoyed this book because it shows a child to be gentle to animals, have patience, and to listen to their elders , while still telling a sweet enjoyable story.

This book was really nothing special. The (almost 3) year old I read it with who LOVES to read only enjoyed the images. The story was lacking. Be kind to animals. There, that's the story. Nothing exciting, nothing I would buy or gift someone. This book is a total pass.

This is a sweet and simple story of a girl who goes to see ducklings with her grandfather. The pictures are fantastic, especially when Eve is chased by mama duck! It made me smile many times. I wasn’t sure about the end, which teaches kids to feed ducks, but overall a solid book. This is great for any child who is learning to be safe around animals or who likes silly stories.

Eve's Ducklings is a short and sweet tale that teaches children about how to respect and care for our furry friends. Monte's story shows a loving and doting Grandfather guiding his Granddaughter Eve by allowing her to learn from her own actions and teaching her self preservation. Eve learns that when she gives the little ducklings and their Mama respect and space that they will choose to interact with her.

This sweet story will help even your tiniest humans to respect animals and treat their furry friends with the kindness they deserve.

This is a picture book about Eve and her grandpa, who spend some time outside and discover a momma duck and her ducklings. Eve wants to pet the ducklings, but this doesn’t go over very well with them or momma duck.

I think the illustrations are cute and aptly demonstrate what’s happening with the story.

The premise of the story is what interested me in the book. Learning to respect the boundaries of animals is something all children need to be educated about, and I think that’s where the book fell a bit short. Eve stops trying to touch the ducklings, but grandpa doesn’t explain to her why the ducklings are afraid. I appreciate them feeding the ducks seeds, but again Grandpa misses an opportunity to explain why feeding them bread isn’t a good choice.

I would’ve had an easier time reading this to my children if the text was larger.
