Cute story and I love the illustrations, but message is a little confusing. She's supposed to stay away from the ducks but then she feeds them and they come right up to her.
I loved the artwork and thought the story was okay. A quick, cute read about being kind to animals and how trust is earned.
This is a sweet little story about a girl and her grandpa, and the importance of being kind and patient with animals. The artwork is really lovely and colourful! I did find that it could have gone into a little more detail, maybe had a few more pages, but overall very cute.
Eve's Ducklings is a beautifully illustrated book which encourages children to show kindness and be patient.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my ARC.
Ummm, children may enjoy this story but I found that it encouraged bad behavior.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This is a beautiful looking picture book. I really liked the illustrations and there are moments where they carry the story perfectly – as we watch Eve being chased by the mother duck and later too when she falls in the lake. The limited text in these sections works really well. Spread 3 is particularly joyful with Grandad chuckling as Eve discovers for herself what happens when you try to pat a duckling.
Overall though, the text isn't as strong. It's a really lovely premise and it's a nice touch that the author shares her personal inspiration for the story, but I think it could have been better structured to emphasise the dramatic potential, and could be more developed in terms of the phrasing and dialogue in places too.
There are so many wonderful picture books available, so I am quite selective when it comes to quality and I therefore wouldn't buy this for my children. This is a shame because it definitely has potential and with some development could be a really lovely book about a well loved subject - feeding and befriending ducks at the park.
I liked the responsible choice of duck food - that wins points with me, and the simplicity of the story is a plus too, but overall it just doesn't quite live up to my expectations of a quality picture book.
Eve and her Grandpa spend quality time together daily as they stroll along the lakefront. Eve spots a mother duck and her precious ducklings and she tries to befriend the babies. Mother duck is not amused and chases her away from her brood. Although disappointed Eve learns to not disturb animals in their natural environment but learns to respect their boundaries. Will Eve find a quiet, kind, caring way to connect to that duck family and make them her friends?
This charming story has lovely illustrations created with watercolours and ink. The message of the book inspires young readers to be caring and kind to animals. I love the intergenerational relationship between grandad and his sweet granddaughter and the wisdom he imparts to her. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me give my review on this book. Eve’s Ducklings is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that is trying to show the importance of being kind to nature. On the positive I loved the illustrations in this book. I do think this book missed the mark what it set out to do. Overall though it is an adorable story.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Bonny Books for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a childrens book. I found the illustrations quite nice and went well with the story. I liked the story, but also had issues with the story. It is a bit silly for Eve to think that the ducklings are hers (grandpa should have explained that already). I can remember being told don't chase the ducks and then they won't chase you. I have never heard of feeding ducks sunflower seeds? Is that a good thing for them? I actually liked the afterward better than the story. Overall just an ok from me. 3 stars
I love this book! I love how it is a story about a girl and her grandpa being kind to ducks! This book has beautiful illustrations and message! Highly recommend!!
I thought that this was a really sweet little read with some wonderful illustrations.
I have a three-year-old daughter who is quite like Eve in some ways and she loves going to feed the ducks with her nanny and she LOVES animals, even insects! I read this with my daughter and she really enjoyed it and we have read it a fair few times since too.
A nice and relaxing read, easy to understand and easy to follow – 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

This was so cute! I love the art style and all of the bright colours that just pop and capture your attention.
The actual story was adorable too and had such a strong and important message about respecting and being kind to animals.
I think this little book is the perfect read for young kids, it’s a sweet story with a beautiful message. I recommend this one!
4/5⭐️
This one was honestly just very wholesome. I also really liked the illustrations of this book. definitely recommend getting for the kids
I received an eARC from NetGalley.
This book is quite short. The illustrations are very fitting for this story; they fit the simple message of kindness. Disappointing it is yet another little white child as the protagonist.
A very important note, only UNsalted sunflower seeds can be given to ducks. Would have been better if the author has suggested the use of frozen peas for feeding waterfowl.
I thought the artwork was beautiful, however, I think it is a bit unclear what the message of the book was supposed to be. The story just didn't feel super cohesive for me or my kids.
Read this book to my wee boy tonight as part of his bedtime story. He loved this book that much he had to get it read to him twice.
Loved the wee message behind the book about being kind to animals, he even picked up on this and said that if you try to catch a baby duck the mammy duck will chase you away.
Brilliant book will be a regular story for him.
Eve and her Grandpa like to spend time at the lake. Eve being the friendly girl that she is wants to make friends with the ducks and she learns the hard way that ducks can be a little "picky" about who their friends are.
Grandpa shares with Eve how to respect animals and the difference it makes. A great read for a grandfather and his granddaughter to read together!
A special thank you to Bonny Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
What a fun story! It reminded me of my childhood and brought back fond memories.
I loved the relationship between Eve and her Grandpa on their adventures to the park. Eve’s mishaps made for entertaining reading but also teaches children the importance of being kind to animals. The illustrations in this book are amazing – it is certainly one to keep on the shelf and read over and over. I really enjoyed it!
What a delightful book. The illustrations are lovely and the story too. I read this to my pre school class and they loved it. There was repetition in it to engage the children to help be involved in the story telling which I love. The pictures were detailed enough to get some lovely conversations going and the message was put across without being stern. Being kind to animals is an important message and I think this book did it beautifully. I will definitely read this again to my class.
Beautiful illustrations and such a sweet story. Little girl, Eve, takes walks with her Grandfather to the lake to see the ducklings. I highly recommend this picture book to kids of all ages. Thanks #netgalley for the early review copy. I loved it.
