The best non fiction book I've read this year.
Against White Feminism puts into words the reason so many of my fellow BAME and LGBTQIA+ women don't feel comfortable in feminist spaces.
The author - Rafia Zakaria, whose book The Upstairs Wife I love - touches on everything from honour killings, to colonialism and even modern feminist groups. After reading this book I realised why although I do considered myself a feminist, I don't feel that feminism listens to people like me.
I liked the way this book was set out, and the way that I've learnt things in this book I'd never heard about before. Even the subjects I do know about slightly managed to help me realise I didn't know them as well as I'd thought.
I truly cannot recommend this book enough,
As a white woman who identifies as a feminist, this was an uncomfortable read for me. I’m so glad I did though. I learned a lot. I thought a lot. It made me reflect on myself a lot.
