I keep coming back to Kiley Dunbar's books. Like a lot. There's something just so pure about them, I think. I love the relaxed, cozy feeling that they evoke.
This first in a series, was amazing because, as with most books I love, I appreciate the escapism. And who wouldn't love the idea of a bookshop that you could run yourself for a holiday?!
The cast of characters were charming, funny, and familial. Just the right amount of romance and friendships. Love this author and the stories she writes.
The perfect fun summer holiday book. Great for lazy afternoon reading!
I'll be on the lookout for more by this author!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

The first half dragged too much, and it didn't do a great job of making Jude, the main character, any likeable, much less sympathetic. Frankly, she sounded 16 and not 30, and while that mindset might've worked in historical, it clashed with modern times and thus felt unrealistic and too stretched too really get behind
I loved this from start to finish. The perfect setting - a book shop in a coastal village. The Borrow a BookShop shop invites book lovers to run a bookshop and cafe for a fortnight. Jude has just graduated after putting her life on hold, ready to take the next step with her professor. Time to introduce Elliot - a man hiding a secret that Jude can’t figure out. Can Jude find her happy ending on holiday?
A great range of eccentric characters, whose daily interactions keep you enticed. The storyline and writing style is easy to follow making this the ideal read for lovers of rom com.
The perfect feel good rom com,
This is everything a book lover needs - because who hasn´t dreamed of owning a bookshop - even if only for a short time?
This was a really cute story, I had a lot of fun.
This book was cute but not my favorite. I had a hard time getting excited about the characters or the story.
Thank you NetGalley and author Kiley Dumbar for giving me a free E-Arc of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was so cute and lovely. I enjoyed the premise of the story as well as the setting. The author did a wonderful job creating the village life as well as relatable characters. The pacing and the writing were good. I did not feel like the story dragged at any point. It held my attention until the very last page. Elliot and Jude were a wonderful couple. Both came to the bookshop to find themselves as well as the next steps in their lives. The people of the village added so much depth to the story. I enjoyed getting to know their back stories as well. The ending of the book was well done and really closed the story on a great note. Overall, I think this book is a great read for those book lovers out there. I can't wait to read more by this author in the future.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for GoodReads
This is the second "pay to work in a bookstore for your vacation" book I've read. I must admit the concept isn't one I'd jump at. Maybe it only works in Europe where workers get more vacation time?
The book is a little slow paced but it's still a fast read. Not a lot happens. I guess that's how it is in small villages when your main character is pretty inert? I didn't really warm to Jude, she mostly lives in her head and she's happy there. So it's hard to be invested in what becomes of her because she doesn't really care. It was also a bit of a stretch that Elliot was so immediately in love with her. It felt like more of a romance by approximation than a true connection.
I found the big secret to be a bit anti-climatic. It's one that totally could have been revealed earlier. The way it plays out fits the pretty mundane real life of Jude unlike the literary reasoning she cooked up in her head.
I was charmed by the seaside village of Clove Lore and all its quirky residents. Especially Aldous! I loved Gran and Jude's parents and all their amazing baked goods. I'd love a sequel focused on Jude's parents and their retired adventures along with Gran and her yarn bombing antics with her friends.
*I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and I am required to disclose that in my review in compliance with federal law.*
Jude arrives to take over the Borrow a Bookshop. Thinking she will be alone she is surprised to meet up with Elliot who is also under the impression the bookshop is his to borrow as well. Great series, characters and story line. Hard to put this down, and highly recommend.
Because of problems with my computer and e-reader my I didn't read the book and my copy has expired.
Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for accepting my request to read this.
The Borrow a Bookshop Holiday was an enjoyable read with some very intriguing and original components that I really lliked.
This book follows our protaginist Jude who after breaking up with her ex - decides to accept the invitation to run the bookshop in a small seaside village for two weeks that she has always wanted to visit. Jude, upon arrival, finds out she is going to have to share the place with another vister Elliot: a mysetrious (and handsome) man with some dodgy things going on behind the scenes.
The book follows them as they run the bookshop and cafe, with a blossoming romance growing.
I really enjoyed the mystery of this book: I was guessing along with Jude what Elliot's backstory was (although I doubt she wouldnt have googled him after finding out he had things going on). And I also like how original the mystery reveal was.
However, I did find certain aspects of this book rather frustrating. Most notably is how we NEVER get to see the characters get intiamte or start their relationship as they have their first kiss then the author basically says "they then have fun times every night" and we dont get more than that one kiss essentially. So when hes claiming "I LOVE YOU" near the end I just cant help but think WHAT. 1.we never saw you draw close and 2. you were together for like 8 or 9 days...
I also, for a seaside village with people running a bookshop, I found there to be a surprisisng lack of talk of the sea or the actual running of a bookshop.
Anyway. This was enjoyable and I read it rather quick.
This book involves 2 of my 3 great passions, reading and baking. If Aldous had been a cat I would really have been in my element. This is a lovely, romantic story set in a beautiful Devon seaside resort. Although with the amount of rain they seem to get you would be forgiven for thinking you were in Seattle, lol. Seriously though if you are looking for total escapism give this book a try.
This is a feel good book and isn't it a book needs dream to run their own Bookshop. Clove lore sounds such a beautiful place with gorgeous views. I could really picture it.
After reading this one and seeing there is a Christmas one I am now downloading it to find out what happens next.
Thank you Netgalley and Hera Books for this copy of the book.. I enjoyed the story line and how easy the book flowed.. I really liked the dog in the story and the atmosphere they built to set the scene for the book.. Recommend? Yes ~ Happy Reading ~
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
What a lovely story!
I loved the concept of the borrow-a-bookshop holiday. In fact, I would love to do something like that myself, so of course, that is what drew me into the book. However, the wonderful characters and the idyllic settings really kept me turning the pages.
The events that took place - the book club, the fox and field day, the light festival - all really painted a picture of a beautiful community and I just thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in their tales.
📖My Thoughts📖
Is it possible to fall in love with a book? If so, I’m totally in love with this one! I loved every minute of this book! I loved the characters, watching their growth and development, the budding romance, the whole bit of it! I felt myself melt into this book and become shut out of reality. It was such a amazing feel good book that I just felt so connected to. I honestly didn’t even want the book to end. I was so enthralled by it that I pretty much read it in one sitting. It’s not very often you find a book that just sucks you in from the start and you just get totally lost in. This one will be with me for some time to come. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a feel good book to get themselves lost in.
Thank you Netgalley, Kiley Dunbar and Hera Books for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I got this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This story was a heart melting romace.I felt like I was there in the story as it was taking place.
I hate cheating tropes, so the start of this book was a big no for me. Luckily, it turned back around into a lovely summer romance, and a story of self discovery.
The idea of running a bookshop even for just a week fascinates me, so this aspect of the book was a wonderful read.
A heartwarming story
A perfect summer read
It will pull you in and you will not want it to end
Thanks NetGalley
