Initially I was disappointed with this book. I wasn't happy that the holiday where will and lily met was glossed over in just a few chapters. We hardly get to read anything about the holiday at all and I would have liked more of that. The rest of the book was good although I wasn't hooked and kept finding myself putting the book down and coming back to it. Having said that I did enjoy it in the end and it's a good light hearted book for a holiday read.
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I just failed to connect with this book. It seemed to me the story started at the resort, so all that came before was sluggish and TMI and just bogged the whole thing down. It also took a lot of tension and mystery from the whole 'what are they hiding?' aspect, leaving the reader to expect a reveal which doesn't come as swiftly as it could've, and thus dragging the story even more. Just not my cup of tea, sadly
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
A cute, fun, lighthearted read. I liked the concept of reinventing yourself in a new place, if find it very relatable; and then being confronted with reality was a good natural consequence. Good premise and an enjoyable book.
i really liked this book. This was a pleasant book to read and I will read more from her. Liked it all. from start to finish. pure enjoyment.
A fun and engaging read, which as marketed is ideal for fans of Portia MacIntosh. It started a little slow but the pace really picks up about 20% in.
Lighthearted fun book. I enjoyed the concept... who hasn't told the odd porky to someone they met and think they will never see again.. likeable characters and plenty of humour makes this an ideal beach read
Lilly and Will… Lilly and Will…. Oh couldn’t you be more developed as characters?
Overall this book was cute- it had the usual up’s and downs of all rom-com books and it kind of lacked that uniqueness that usually comes with really good rom-coms. It was Rom but not so Com… my favourite aspect of the book though was how hard Lilly pushed through to make things work and to deliver the event of her career…knowing it would make or break her reputation, even though she was way in over her head, and no matter the outcome, Lilly still pushed which was awesome to see…! I also really liked her relationship with her movie star friend (who’s name I have forgotten) because even though they just met she totally put her life and problems aside to help her friend.
All in all it was a good read just wished it had a bit more uniqueness to it.
ARC received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This was a sweet romance story that made for a lovely weekend read! The setting was perfect and transported you in your mind. The relationship between Lily and Will was realistic and believable. I love Tracy Corbett's books and this one definitely did not disappoint!
This story was so much fun - despite what you might think from the opening funeral scene.
When Lilith reinvents herself as Lily and embarks on a Caribbean holiday the fun begins - both for her and for the reader- as she unwittingly propels herself into Will's life, with often rather funny results.
The loss of loved ones and the ongoing repercussions is the theme woven into the background of this story, but I never felt it to be overdone, and it's a springboard for change on Lily's part. As for Will and his gorgeous little daughter, it's time to let go and learn to love again.
A thoroughly enjoyable emotional story that tugs at your heartstrings as well as making you smile.
Lovely read. Fun and fabulous throughout. Really enjoyed this story! Light hearted (mostly), quirky and full of romance. Really easy to engage with completely absorbed me. Loved the characters and really hope there might be some kind of follow up!
Thank you Netgalley.
The best novel so far by this very talented author. Touching story of the two main characters. Made me laugh out loud but feel sad for them at times. Love a happy ending!
This fun beach read is a novel of love, adventure and travel all mixed together. It is pure escapist fiction. I received this novel as an advanced reader copy from net galley in exchange for an honest review.
Will and Lily meet in the Caribbean, but are less than honest with one another about their true lives back home. You know the truth will come out eventually and it was fun to read about their hijinks and missteps back home! While this story focused on Lily and Will, I think Poppy was my favorite character. I loved the line when Lily and Poppy met and Lily goes "I was named after a flower too!" Such a cute way to connect. Overall, a lighthearted, easy read that left me looking forward to the next book from Tracy Corbett!
Entertaining and engrossing rom-com. I like the characters, the plot that flows and had a lot of fun in reading it.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I really liked this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
The first page or so of this book was rough. I wondered if I might even want to DNF it, which I never do, but it got much better after the funeral scene picked up. I’ve read quite a few rom-coms lately, and this one was actually fairly unique, plot-wise. The characters get together in the beginning then have to find their way back into a relationship throughout the book. I liked all the characters, especially Lily/Lilith. Even though you know she’s kind of lied her way into a job, you know she’s an amazing person and extremely likeable.
I did find it a bit strange that throughout the book, Will’s family gave him so much trouble for having to help take care of his daughter. So many families, especially grandparents, do this all the time without acting so put out by it. You’d think they would be more understanding, especially as he’s a single parent who suffered a great loss. I also didn’t understand his family insisting he force Poppy to do more social things, at least not in the way they were. These are plot elements that would imply he has a bad relationship with his family, when you kind of understand that isn’t supposed to be the case. There were several references to being introverted being a negative thing, when it’s absolutely not, and I wouldn’t imagine frequent readers would really appreciate the implication. Despite that, I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more written by this author.
Misconceptions, miscommunication, lies, and a whole lot of unrealistic scenarios with a predictable outcome. The characters were meh.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So I did the thing you're not supposed to do with books, I judged it by the cover! When I was scrolling through NetGalley the big stately home on the front immediately grabbed my attention; on further inspection of the book blurb I was sold and, thankfully, I was approved for an ARC.
Turns out there's a reason you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover - I set myself up with high expectations for something amazing and what I read was just ok. The story was a nice enough read, and definitely got better as it progressed, but the juxtaposition between what I felt was a slow start (basically anything on the holiday felt like it dragged a little) and a rushed ending was a bit too big to be convincing.
Lily was a likeable enough lead character; she was generous and endearingly vulnerable after having her life turned upside down. She was also hard to connect with though - sometimes her extreme shyness was painful to read and her constant (somewhat unrealistic) clumsiness was annoying. Will was a little too standoffish as a male lead for my liking and didn't seem to have any particularly stand-out redeeming qualities other than his determination and obvious love for his daughter. The basis of their interactions seemed to be whether or not they could push past their ideas of each other to appreciate the true person beneath the surface, with the added complication that neither one of them was being totally honest with the other. Beyond that, there was a little passion and heat, but the chemistry didn't exactly leap off the page.
The secondary characters provided more enjoyment for me than the leads, particularly Megan and Poppy. Megan's confidence and sass was a pleasant contrast to Lily's shyness and made her stand out more than I think she would have done in other circumstances. Poppy ended up being a bigger plot driver than I initially expected her to be and, despite her flitting between irritatingly (and unbelievably) immature and strangely prophetic for her age, I found her charming and particularly enjoyed her relationship with Lily when they realised the similarities they shared.
It was a fairly pleasant read and helped me lose myself in another world for a few hours, but the pace and character development felt a little lacking in execution for me. It took me 2.5 weeks from pick up to finish, as I found myself plodding through it, which is unusual for me.
