Oh, yes, I'm proud of myself for giving this series another chance.
This book was so lovely and entertaining, the plot was the utmost historical fiction cliche, but that didn't mean it was boring by any means.
Weston was such an interesting character, I loved the whole aloof-but-kindhearted thing going on, also I loved that he wasn't prone to dumb actions to "relieve" himself of his attraction to Evie.
Evie, on the other hand, kept getting on my nerves, declaring your love first isn't bad, but doing it time and again, with no reciprocity shown, was just embarrassing, I kind of felt that she overwhelmed Weston, like, give the man a break to process his feelings!!
That said though, I liked the whole thing, easily binge-able and engrossing, didn't take me longer than a day.
*I received an ARC of this book through netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters had a lot of chemistry and their banter was fun. Evie was a strong character that could hold her own with the grumpy earl.
A little bit enemies to lovers, little bit of feminism, little bit of drama, a whole lot of fun! The relationship situation is a little odd, but still works. I'm curious to see how the rest of the series comes through, but it's definitely a great little take on all the American heiresses coming to England to marry peers.
Definitely a fun read! Edie and Weston are the perfect foils for each other. Their chemistry is almost as entertaining as their continual sparring.
Thank you Jillian Eaton, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
This book was unexpectedly amazing! While I usually don’t enjoy the feminist trope, this book brought more intrigue to the table. Most of all, it was fantastic writing. Definitely recommending in good reads.
Entranced by the Earl was such a fun, hilarious book by Jillian Eaton. I would have liked to see more steamy scenes between the characters but this book made me laugh out loud.
Evelyn is an impoverished American who is determined to marry a duke. Only problem is she chooses a duke who is her half-sister's half-brother. A bit of a complication and a complicated relationship. Weston doesn't like her and she is pretty sure she doesn't really like him but she likes his title.
But passion flares between them and they can't stop kissing each other. Will Weston realize that Evie loves him and he loves her before he is engaged to another?
This is a perfect fun read, and I actually liked it better than the first book in the series.
Evie is my favourite kind of heroine - headstrong, stubborn, and self-aware. More importantly, the light enemies to lover arc set is really well done, deftly balancing some excellent banter, a good dose of angst, and some really well done comedic touches (featuring Posy the lamb). I personally would have preferred a little more steam and a little more time to see the HEA in the epilogue, but it was a great read.
I received an ARC from Net Galley and Dragonblade Publishing, which I voluntarily (and happily!) devoured in one sitting.
Weston is Evie's half-sister's brother. Got that? Starting in book one, he stole a ring given by his father to Evie's mother when he found out she was pregnant and going back to America. From book one, Evie and her sister travel to England to get the ring back. Weston is as cold as a glacier. Never shown love by his father, he is determined to marry for duty only. Evie, on the other hand, is determined to marry for wealth and status. She has been working toward this goal from a young age. Using cunning to make herself the most popular girl at Chesterbrook Academy for Young Ladies. She wants the best of everything and the envy of her peers. I pictured her as the original Mean Girl. Weston's sister invites Evie to a month-long house party which enrages her brother. Of course due to circumstances (a broken axle) they are thrown together alone, even saving a baby lamb, showing that even two selfish people have a heart. One unsolved mystery is given a few lines. The Duke of Hanover, rumored to have killed his mistress, shows up at the house party. I'll enjoy when this storyline is given more time. As for Weston and Evie, they conclude (I don't consider this a spoiler, because come on) that love is everything and it's what they've been missing in their lives. Evie does admit it doesn't hurt that he's rich, handsome, and an Earl.
I had a hard time "believing" in the attraction between the H and h. She had a set purpose and he was to be the dupe of her attempts to "save her family" but they end up in love, resolve the issues, fool around a bunch, and then have a happily ever after. I read it all, but the passion seemed forced and unnecessary to the story. I've read most of Jillian Eaton's books and like them. This one didn't measure up, in my opinion. It was okay, but nothing special. #NetGalley #EntrancedbytheEarl
Designs on a Reluctant Earl
She has every intention of marrying the earl, but she has no idea he would steal her heart. Neither was looking for love, so what happens when it finds them? It all starts with a stolen ring, but how will it end? I found the book to be absolutely delightful. There is humor, romance, and two stubborn people whose past hurt made it difficult for them to let love into their hearts. You can read this story as standalone, but you will want to start from the beginning. Why is Weston so resistant to Evie, and what is the story of the stolen ring? I look forward to what this author writes next. This series is one of my favorites this year.
Evelyn Thorncroft is American and Weston the Earl of Hawkridge is not impressed except he was lying to everyone and to himself because he has lustfull thoughts! Evie wants a Duke, but after seeing Wes she could lower her standards for a Earl. However, neither one believes in Happily Ever After and there are others to include family that will insure this pair will not find that true love!
This is a lighthearted read with some interesting twists and some moments of humor!
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Evie is an American in London trying to right a wrong. Weston will do everything within his power to not let the American into his family. Evie and Weston butt heads throughout this story and it's very entertaining. Great read.
I did not think that this book would be better than book 1. But i was wrong
Evie was such an strong and funny heroine and Weston was The perfect cold hearted hero that was actually a softie at hearth.
This is one of The best enemies to lovers books ever and I loved that it took time for them to become lovers and that it did not take one chapter. The yearning and angst was amazing
London 1870
"Cold as a glacier, one woman had said. But handsome as sin, another had sighed. Evie agreed with both opinions....She was going to marry the Earl of Hawkridge. He just didn't know it yet." Evie had a plan or at least a determination. Hawkridge met all her requirements... a wealthy husband, he had her mother's ring and respect of her peers.
Weston was cold due to his childhood having no love and affection and he was not going to open himself up to that vulnerability. But since meeting Evie, she ignited a fury in him, "with heat came fire. And with fire came desire. The kind of desire that would lead a man to traipse through the countryside carrying a sheep because a raven haired minx... had insisted they save."
Just wanted to give you a taste of this fun story, full of wonderful banter, humor, a building desire and a stubborn Earl and even more determined american that take a winding journey to their happy ending!
Such a good book! A feud over a family heirloom bring Evie and Weston together. I have never read a book where the heroine was so determined. Evie knows what she wants and even if her motives change, she still charges towards it. On the other hand, Weston's world has been turned upside down and handed a lamb, leaving him utterly confused.
I really enjoyed this story, but Jillian Eaton is excellent at what she does.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
So good, so good, so good! Loved every page! Evie is fabulous, she knows what she wants and plans to get it. Weston is coldhearted, except with his sister. Raised without parental love, he thinks marrying for love is not for him.
I never write a spoiler, but really, this is a great 2nd book of the series. Secondary characters are waiting in the wings for their shot at happiness...I can't wait!!
velyn Thorncroft and her sister crossed the ocean in search of a ring that was stolen from her half-sister, Joanna who found her mother’s ring and the secrets behind it. She discovers a half-brother Weston the Earl of Hawkrige . Against his better judgement he’s instantly attracted to the young American, but he knows her for what she really is a beautiful money grubbing woman who along with her sister is after his fortune. I love this captivating story of with Evie antogizining Weston at every turn and both fighting the sensual attraction and tension between them. You’ll love their witty banter as he navigates his way between Evie and his half-sister. Evie has says she’ll marry no one except a duke, but will the attraction to the Earl change her mind? I have voluntarily read and review this excellent book.
This lighthearted romance draws the reader in from the opening sentence. On a quest to retrieve their mother's ring that was stolen from them, Evelyn and her sister Joanna embark on a journey to England. Both young women have strong personalities and determination, and little stands in their way as they set out to achieve their goals. In her resourcefulness, Evie has made friends with Joanna's half-sister and secured an invitation to the annual house party at the Hawkridge Estate, putting the Earl of Hawkridge is in her sights. The austere earl is not known for a jovial nature, nor a sense of humour, however he nevertheless finds himself in the most ludicrous situations when in Evie's presence. This romance is well written and entertaining, with some angst and tension, but mostly it is really witty and enjoyable. I received a copy of this novel through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Evelyn wants to marry a Duke or more precisely an Earl. She plots to make this happen but falls in love with him instead.
Weston can't stand the sight of her or so he says.
This is an awesome book. The second in the series it is a great conclusion to what as transpired before.
Jillian Eaton writes an excellent book.
I received this book for free from the publisher via Netgalley.
This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
What an interesting adventure Jillian Eaton has given us to enjoy. The characters are brilliantly written, the plot is superb, and the little lamb Posy is adorable. Just how is an American woman, that happens to be a half sister to an English Duke’s half-sister, that he never knew of, going to live her dream of marrying said Duke. Especially, when the Duke of Hawkridge cannot stand to be in the same room as Evelyn Thorncroft. To say he detests her is mild. And so, the plot thickens. I could not put the book down and genuinely enjoyed reading it.
