I loved this! I’m a big fan of anthologies, the different voices and creative narratives. This was very entertaining and was hard to put down. A 3.6 read for me.
I love so many of the authors featured in this anthology and it was so heartwarming and sweet!
10/10 escapism and warm feelings. Would recommend!
This is a collection of short stories for young LGBTQ romance lovers.
It is a collection of fifteen different stories by fifteen different authors.
In short, it is an anthology on modern twists on romance troops, with stories ranging from contemporary to sci - fi and fantasy.
"Fools in Love" is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an inspiring and touching anthology of tales that honor the diversity and complexity of love. It offers a wide range of themes and moods to suit a diverse palate. Like every collection of short stories I read, this one included some extremely good stories and some not so good ones. Even if the last few stories were somewhat weak, it was still an enjoyable, quick read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Running Press for providing me with an ARC of this book! All opinions are my own.
A wonderful anthology featuring 15 authors and 15 different stories! Full of modern twists, cute tropes being used, and diverse characters. Whilst all stories did not work for me, there is definitely something for everyone:)
Great anthology of short stories around the subject of love and dating. Introduces you to a variety of YA authors.
"Fools In Love" is a compilation of diverse love stories penned by fifteen authors, promising a fresh take on classic romance tropes. While the anthology features a variety of voices, each story offering a unique spin on familiar themes, the overall reading experience proves to be a mixed bag that may leave readers with varying levels of satisfaction.
One of the anthology's strengths lies in its diverse range of authors, each bringing a distinct perspective to the table. The collection includes both established and up-and-coming writers, promising a blend of writing styles and storytelling approaches. The authors involved, including Rebecca Barrow, Malinda Lo, and Ashley Herring Blake, contribute their individual flair to the anthology, resulting in a diverse array of tales that cover a wide spectrum of romantic subgenres.
The anthology's theme of reimagining classic romance tropes is intriguing and holds the promise of fresh and innovative storytelling. From enemies-to-lovers and mistaken identities to fantastical elements like powerful flora and a superhero's nemesis, "Fools In Love" attempts to breathe new life into well-known themes. The stories explore a variety of settings, from a golf tournament to a sled race through snow-capped mountains, adding an extra layer of diversity to the collection.
However, the unevenness in the quality of the stories is where "Fools In Love" falls short. While some tales shine with creativity and engaging narratives, others struggle to captivate the reader's interest. The anthology's format, with stories varying in length and depth, results in a lack of cohesion that may leave readers feeling disconnected from the overall theme.
Additionally, some stories suffer from rushed pacing and underdeveloped characters, hindering the ability to fully invest in the relationships portrayed. With fifteen stories packed into one anthology, the brevity of each tale limits the depth of character development and world-building, leaving certain narratives feeling like fleeting glimpses rather than fully realized love stories.
In conclusion, "Fools In Love" is a three-star anthology that offers a diverse range of voices and attempts to reinvent classic romance tropes. While some stories shine with creativity and emotional depth, the inconsistency in quality, pacing issues, and lack of cohesion make this collection a hit-or-miss reading experience. Readers looking for a quick and varied exploration of love may find moments to enjoy, but those seeking more depth and coherence might be left wanting.
An anthology of stories about young love. I had mixed reviews on this one. I enjoyed some stories, but some were hard to get through (perhaps because they are not my preferred genre, but they were slow reads). Overall, it was worth a read despite that.
such a cute anthology! my favorite was by Natasha Ngan, who remains to be one of my all time favorite authors.
A truly wonderful anthology! Each story was utterly lovely and I found myself rooting for each and every character, not wanting their story to be over but also unable to wait before diving into the next.
This was an enjoyable read, but I felt some of the short stories didn't have enough time to fully flesh out the characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Perseus Books, Running Press, Running Press Kids for letting me read this book.Fake relationships. Enemies to lovers. Love triangles and best friends, mistaken identities and missed connections. This collection of genre-bending and original stories celebrates how love always finds a way. This book was a a pleasant short read for me.
I’m sorry for the way late review, I did not finish his book originally and felt like I couldn’t give it a fair review. I have now finished it and overall, I did really enjoy each of the books in the anthology.
This book hit the mark. It gave enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, fake dating and every trope in between. Let's just say in the moment I was living for it. The short romances within this novel gave off complete warmth, and it was interesting to see all of these shorter stories put together, I commence the authors, you could see the different personalities come across in the writing. The representation in this novel I commend, there's something for everyone and for that I give it a strong 3.5 stars.
'fools in love: fresh twists on romantic tales' just wasn't for me. there were a handful of stories that i enjoyed ('five stars' by amy spalding and 'bloom' by rebecca barrow stand out to me), but the overuse of tired fantasy & superhero tropes fell flat with not enough space to develop the setting or characters.
I enjoyed this thoroughly! As it was filled with different stories that kept me entertained. Loved it!
Thank you Netgalley for providing me ARC!
I had a great time reading this book. Most of these short stories are very entertaining and they are super easy to read. Although some of them could be considered kind of cliche, they are surprisingly fresh and different.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and enjoy.
A beautifully sweet collection of short love stories. Perfect for reading in one sitting or in chunks! I would certainly recommend it.
Fools in Love features 15 authors reimagining some of the most popular tropes in the romance genre, including fake dating, enemies to lovers and love triangles. This is a collection of genre-bending and original short stories that "celebrates how love always finds a way." By genre-bending, they mean fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary and more in one collection.
I think this anthology is perfect for teenagers or young adults. Every story truly gives you a unique experience and while I preferred some to others, I still found the collection to be very enjoyable and fun to read. I also appreciated the representation.
