I received an advanced copy of the book, but my life got wild and I didn't get this book read back then. I saw it in a local bookshop and was thrilled. It's such an attractive book: heavy and solid with gorgeous coloring. I like the personality tests and tips for the intended age groups. I'm not super into dragons, so I'm not quite sure how that part fits in. However, unlocking your inner magic is definitely a promise fulfilled.
Be the Dragon was a fun book of motivational tips for children. I enjoyed the book and read a bit to my children but I am not sure what the target audience would be for the book. The catchy illustrations were fun and the reading was not difficult but some of the concepts seemed a little longwinded for younger audiences.
Have you ever found yourself wishing you could find a tool to use with your upper elementary/middle grade clients who love doing homework, enjoy self reflection, and are delightfully quirky? Ha! Too specific?
“Be The Dragon” is a new release by Catherine J. Manning and Workman Publishing that perfectly fits the bill! Manning flips the image of a dragon from one of being a monster to one who is powerful, strong, and capable of great things. Seriously though, this book is full of activities, prompts, and quizzes to keep the reader engaged and turning pages. I love the idea of using this book as a guided journal for homework between therapy sessions but also believe this book to be an excellent tool for prompting processing within therapy. “Be The Dragon” is affirming and uplifting at every page, exploring the reader’s strengths and aptitude for growth.
I LOVE a good themed group run, don’t you? I like to get super quirky and plan group interventions around a topic, theme, or category and have found that kids engage better when I do so. To be clear, my goal is always to create a culture where the group members learn to process and guide the group towards their needs but with kids, sometimes we have to start with an activity or lesson to open that door.
While I share this book as a therapeutic resource, I admit that I ordered a copy for my middle child who loves fantasy, dragons, and magic!
I am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an ecopy in exchange for an honest review. The words and opinions are my own.
"Be the Dragon" is a fun, interactive, and encouraging activity book for the dragon obsessed kid in your life.
What an splendid children's book! My 7 year old and 5 year old Loved it! They were very interested in the quiz aspect of the book! The graphics were colorful and engaging! I hope to grab a copy when it's released in print.
I found this book to be fun and cute. The quizzes were fun to find out what you would be dragon, unicorn or something else. I enjoyed reading this with my kids
This book is a fantastic resource for ages 7+ because, even as an adult, I discovered some great ideas from these pages! This book uses dragons and other mythical creatures to guide readers through a series of stories, activities, quizzes and insight that will help them know themselves a little better each time they journey through the pages. This book provides an abundance of opportunies for self-reflection, self-growth, mindfulness, coping strategies, and plenty of adventure! I cannot wait for peope to read this, so they can discover what kind of dragon they are, what their magic is, and what makes them feel "zippy"!
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Be the Dragon is a fun filled children's book (featuring dragons) for them to work through in a fun way from start to finish to discover more about themselves.
This book has 9 different sections and a fun quiz for the child to do in each section. Their answers give more insight for them in each section about themselves.
I loved the illustrations and fun elements this book contains and find it to be an interesting and informative book for children without boring them!
How fun!!! My 7yo loved the story and quiz aspect of this book. It was a wonderful way to keep him engaged in the book. The illustrations are great too!
This was a wonderful book full of useful information told in a fun and fantastical way. I love the happy dragons (rather than scary ones) and the lessons they bring with them. All of the activities were well described with complete instructions to follow. And the overall theme of the book was a message to be the best dragon you can be! It includes suggestions for mentoring, self-care and finding your special spark (or talent) to share with the world. I would happily install this book in my classroom or school library! I will be adding a video review on my channel soon!
Wow! This book is a treasure trove of stories, ideas and activities which will really engage, infuse and inspire children and those caring for them. The author really understands children and talks to the reader in an engaging, confidential way as if she is speaking directly to them which children love. The book cleverly uses the premise of dragons to help the reader to safely explore so many different aspects of emotional literacy and well-being. which is brilliant as dragons have such universal appeal. There is so much in this book that would make it an amazing summer project for parents or activity organizers or could be used to great effect in schools. This really is a unique book and is bursting with imagination, creativity, well-being activities and a totally wonderful array of the most beautifully illustrated dragons and a definite touch of magic.
With enormous thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a fantastic read.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. I was a big fan of the designs foremost. I think that the illustrations were delightfully vivid and engaging. The story is fine. Some valuable lessons to be discussed from the material.
