Another great read from Alexa Martin. The podcast was awesome. I could actually see people really listening to that podcast. Jude’s relationship was with her mom was a little over the top for me. Also, I thought the splitting up of the women wasn’t that realistic. I think their personalities would have led them to stick it out. The ending was awesome!

There’s a feature I’ve been noticing in a lot of new women’s fiction releases. It’s one where a lot of social media influencing is highlighted, specifically influencers on Instagram. It feels odd reading books that focus around the very platform on which most of my reviews are featured (isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think?), but I guess that means it’s “on trend”, or whatever the kids (clearly not me) are saying these days.

Another commonality I’m seeing in the genre is the focus on females supporting females. Don’t get me wrong, I love to read about a good cat fight as much as anyone else who was raised on trashy talk shows and The Real World. But it’s refreshing to see that behind the cattiness, there is another woman ready to go toe to toe to support her bestie.

In Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes, we meet Jude and Lauren, childhood friends who have always been there for one another. Jude has cultivated an Instagram perfect existence, one she learned how to fake from the best as her own mother is an aging starlet whose time has come and gone.

Meanwhile Lauren has always been the more serious, level headed one of the duo- set on going to medical school and settling down with her fiancé. Then a still not married Lauren discovers she’s pregnant, just around the same time she discovers her fiancé is cheating. So the two women do what they do best- they band together to help the other out.

Acknowledging they are struggling to stay afloat they decide to become roomies with Lauren’s now five year old daughter in tow. But living together as adults isn’t the same as the dream they had as kids. Can Jude’s business savvy help Lauren from losing custody of her daughter? And can Lauren’s sound advice keep Jude from losing herself?

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes, which touching upon the aforementioned social media aspect and female friendship angle, also offers a surprising amount of depth. Neither women’s issues are glossed over and their friendship is tested as a result. Despite its quirky (yet lovable) title, this is a somewhat light hearted read that also really causes you to connect with these characters.

In essence, this book is good AF which totally means awesome forks by the way. Why, what did YOU think it meant? 😉

Believe it or not, this is my first @alexambooks novel, but it won’t be my last! Thanks to @berkleypub, @netgalley and @lovearctually for having me along for the ride on this one which comes out next month!

As a person who most reads romance, I was excited to read this book, not because it was a romance novel, but because of the fact that I love Alexa Martin.

At first, when Alexa said that she was writing a women's fiction novel about two best friend, one who was a raising a baby, I was a little hesitant in reading it. What would a single women of 26 years old need to read a book about a single mother? I am so far away from having kids of my own, sometimes I doubt it will happened, kinda relating a lot of Jude in the novel. But I decided to give the book a try, again because of my obsession with Alexa. I am slowly trying to become her best friend! I will update you all on that process in my next review of one of her books.

Either way, I buckled myself in for a women's fiction that was light on the romance, and I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this book. I found myself falling so much in love with this book, I pretty much live-tweeted my read to Alexa just so she knew at that very moment how much I loved it.

When I say this book is a written masterpiece I really do mean it. I found myself wanting to always know what Jude, Lauren and Addy were up too. Honestly Addy was so cool, if I could be her I honestly would.

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes provides us with a very of a millennial friendship that overcomes the bounds of time and issues. Lauren and Jude have been best friends for so long, they became more than just that, they became sisters. With both of them being down on their luck, they decide to move in together. Because living with your best friend is honestly the best idea! Trust me, if I ever need a roommate in life, it will be my best friend. While Lauren and Jude could not be more different than each other their lives work. Lauren is a single Black mother who is raising the future president and Jude is a social media influencer.

The biggest topic this book address was the importance of friendship and mental health. Throughout the book, which is a very fast-pace easy read, you find yourself cheering on Lauren and Jude's success, laughing at the silliness that Addy says, and crying at the heartbreak they feel. You are pulled into this emotionally packed rollercoaster that is going to take you on a journey that you cannot even imagine going on.

You find yourself screaming and cheering Lauren on when she finds her voice and stands up to her ex, you will find yourself wanting to subscribe to their podcast. You find yourself yelling at Jude that she needs to stand up for herself. You learn the importance of cutting out toxic people in your life, and that not all parents are created the same. Alexa shows us the ups and downs of long term friendships and the importance of taking a step back from your life to see that not everything is always how it seems.

Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes is a book for everyone to enjoy, if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. I do not think I will ever stop singing the praises for this amazing book. Alexa did such an awesome job with writing this bool. You can feel the love she has as a mother come thru the pages. Everyone should have the chance to read this book.

I absolutely loved loved loved this book!! Highly recommend! I loved how the friendship between Lauren and Jude was center-front for this book, as well as Lauren's daughter, Addy. It also touches on the importance of mental health. I found myself cheering on Lauren as she grew to stand up for herself against her ex and then yelled for Jude to do the same with her mom.

I cried , laughed, and I absolutely hands down loved this book!!!

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and Netgalley for the advanced ereader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I love everything about Alexa Martin and her writing. I have now read two Alexa Martin's and they have just blown me out of the water. The first book I read was Interception by Alexa Martin and after reading that I just knew I needed to read Mom Jeans and Other Mistakes. The duality that is Alexa Martin, from sexy football romances, to contemporary fiction. Just so amazing. I loved the friendship and the motherhood fiction just so so much. I was not expecting this from her but this book just brought me so much joy. Im so glad that I was able to read this. it was everything and more.

It's great to see women's fiction out there that isn't all about the romance, and this is a story that is a love letter to best friends. Lauren and Jude have been best friends since the third grade, and when exes are out of the picture and Lauren needs some help juggling a career and being a single mom, the two besties decide to move in together. Together, the two will work through bad dates, parental-baggage and much more as they experience their lives now. This is a cute story that pits opposites together who share the bonds of female friendship and makes it a joyful read.

The strength in this book is the friendship. The author does a great job of making us feel exactly what our main characters are feeling.

Yes, it can be a bit sugary at times, but I just love that there is love in this friendship and that you should no compare your insides to the outsides of someone.

I have a full review on my blog publishing on September 1.

Wow, just wow. Alexa is such an amazing writer. I fell in love with her fun, lighthearted, Playbook series but this book shows that she is more than capable of writing with such emotion, heart, and depth. This book follows Jude and Lauren, best friends whose lives are both a mess so they decide to move in together along with Lauren’s five year old daughter. They both are dealing with so much from custody battles to emotionally manipulative mothers. But throughout it all they know they have each other. What I love about this book is that it shows what a true friendship is about.

This was such a beautiful story! It touches on so many things that myself and I'm sure a lot of you can relate too! It's touching story about motherhood, friendship, abuse, custody battle, alcoholism and so much more! Jude and Lauren find themselves in hard times, so they decide to move in together. But its not going to be like they thought it would be when they were teenagers. They each bring their own baggage. This is very different from the other books I have read by Alexa Martin but she did an absolutely amazing job with this book! I couldn't help liking this book! I look forward to read more books like this from Alexa Martin! Such a perfect book, beautifully written and much, much more!

I really enjoyed this one!! It was nice to see two perspectives that are usually pit against each other (the mom vs the single girl, the responsible one vs the flake, etc). I also really appreciated the messy and complicated thing that is a FRIENDSHIP, especially a long established friendship like this one. My bestie and I always say, you only fight with a true friend. I was definitely riveted by the spiral towards the end but happy to see how it concluded. Overall, would definitely recommend this book!

Everyone needs a friend like Jude who keeps it real and always has your back. I'm describing this book as Gilmore Girls meets The Odd Couple meets Younger.

I LOVED this book! It's a super refreshing depiction of female characters with many dimensions, flaws, personality quirks, and overall existences away from men. Women have such intricate lives, but so often they're reduced to their interaction and relationship to the men in their lives and I love how this book doesn't do that. You will fall in love with the writing style, characters, and storytelling of this book. I love the intersectionality which Martin brings to the table with this book, and I'll be eagerly awaiting all her future works.

Adulting is hard, and Alexa Martin's story about female friendship/found family is so refreshing and unlike anything I read, in the best possible way. Both Lauren and Jude are depicted as three-dimensional, realistic characters with questionable judgement at times, but that's exactly what makes this story all the more relatable and genuine. Their moms also add a layer of complexity to the main characters' arc development. and I loved how the author unfolded and resolved their mother-daughter relationships, It's a known fact how Black women are mistreated in healthcare and denied treatment for medical issues, and Martin's way of tackling this injustice, as well as alcohol abuse, is commendable. Can't wait to read the next book by this author!

This was such a sweet, fun read, even when it delved into more serious topics. It felt relevant to the times and I definitely related to many of Lauren’s feelings as a parent. I loved the focus on Lauren and Jude’s friendship as the center of the story. I wish we had more books that focused on friendship as the primary relationship in the plot.

I loved this book so much! It had the perfect mix of friendship, motherhood, and humor. Both of the main characters were unique and felt so real. I really enjoyed how we also got to see their relationships with their own mothers---something that I always want more of in fiction. Lauren's journey through motherhood, her awful ex, and how she embraced her strength was so touching. (Also, can we talk about how her daughter is the coolest?!) I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a heartfelt and humorous read.

Known for her romances, Martin returns in this book to write about a different kind of love story - one between best friends since childhood. With compassion for deeply troubled characters and situations, she allows the unique gift of true friendship to shine through in this lovely story.

This one was so refreshing.

It wasn’t your typical mom friend and childfree friend novel because these characters felt so real.

This book showed real women with real problems, like custody battles and substance abuse.

I will definitely be reading anything Alexa Martin writes in the future!

Loved this even more that the other ALexa Martin books I've read. Her characters are always lovable and relatable. Mothers, motherhood, and Mean Girls are more center to this story than the love lives of the main characters and I found that truly wonderful.
