I finally read one of #bookstagram’s darling books- the Love Hypothesis! And I’m going to have to disagree with the majority on this one. I liked it, but didn’t love it.

Everyone has already read this book, so I’ll skip the plot summary. My main gripe with the book is that our MC Olive is pretending to date someone else to convince her BFF Anh it’s okay to date Olive’s ex boyfriend?? A good friend wouldn’t date your ex, let alone your BEST friend. Anh is not a good friend nor is she deserving of this enormous effort. If you can get past this part, I actually enjoyed the book. Adam is a great grumpy character and being with Olive really brings the best out of him. I don’t love fake dating, but their love for each other felt genuine by the end of the book.

I have to talk about the hardest part of the book for me and that’s that Olive and I have something in common. We have both lost a parent to Pancreatic Cancer. In the book, Olive is inspired to help with early detection with PC, since her mother passed away from this vicious disease. My own father passed away in 2009 and after reading this book, I’ve made a donation to the @lustgardenfdn, the leading research organization of Pancreatic Cancer. They are searching for a cure for PC as well as early detection. I found Olive’s work inspiring and I actually enjoyed hearing about her research and her motivation for her work.

Thank you so much to @berkleypub and @berkleyromance for my gifted copy. I’m also very thankful to the author for bringing more awareness to the devastating disease that is pancreatic cancer. 💜

A fast-paced and enjoyable read! I loved the author's sense of humor and the book's overall self-awareness. It's a romcom fully aware of beloved romcom tropes — and it executes these perfectly, I particularly loved how it broke the fourth wall so many times through witty dialogue. The characters give great banter and have amazing chemistry as well. Lastly, the STEM backdrop of the story made it all the more interesting. 5 romcom stars for me!

This copy was kindly given to be by Netgalley and the publisher to read for review. All opinions are my own.

ALL THE STARS, I LOVED THIS BOOK. I don't know why i didn't think I would like this book, maybe because it was so hyped across social media but I loved it so much. I actually want a physical copy for myself. The fact that it is a very light kylo-ren fanfiction may it even better in my opinion (the names gave it away and had me rolling laughing). Olive and Adam though were so adorable. The way that Olive spiraled in her own mind with anxiety was a point in which I really connected with her, It was a reflection on how I find myself feeling sometimes too. The crushing weight that is the fear of failure and uncertainty in oneself and our path in life.

This was such a funny and quick read that I really enjoyed. I read this as a buddy read with friends which made the experience even more fun. The romance in this book was very sweet and steam would fog your glasses up 😂. Definitely going to be reading more by this author and definitely recommend this book.

Before I dive in, I need to give a huge thank you to Ali Hazelwood, Berkley Romance, Berkley Publishing Group, and Netgalley for my ARC of The Love Hypothesis in exchange for an honest review, and to Berit, Deb, and Kenzie for the great buddy read!

🧪 𝙼𝚢 𝚃𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜: 🧪

Y'ALL.

All the great buzz surrounding this book is 100 percent true. IT IS AMAZING.

Smart, sweet, and endearing, THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS has so many wonderful things going for it: women in STEM, including Olive, a third-year PhD student with a heart of gold; amazing secondary characters who could easily be the main characters in their own novels (hint, hint Ali!); a professor/grad student fake dating plotline that reflects Ali's love for STEM and academia; a brooding, hotshot love interest you can't help but fall in love with; great banter that makes you laugh out loud; and some of the most understatedly sweet moments and dialogue I've read in a long time.

Ooh, and let's not forget one of my other favorite things: Both Olive's and Adam's hard stances on pumpkin spice everything!

Where do you think I fall?!? I bet you can guess!

Have I sold you on this one yet? I really hope so, because this is my favorite book of the fall! Don't wait - grab a copy of this one today; you'll thank me for it!

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. I was excited for this romance book, having heard it would include demisexual rep, but I honestly felt uncomfortable reading most of this book. Our main character doesn't have a lot of personality besides her work. Adam's an idealised love interest whose actions seemed problematic at times. I just can't make myself like characters whose only personality trait is being mean either.

This was not at all what I expected and I ended up loving it. The characters were great and the story was engaging. So much so, that I finished it in a day. Will definitely recommend.

One of my fav books of the year. I really enjoyed the female character and her independence, especially since she's a woman in science.
I think there were some issues people had with the arrogance and the sexism that goes on in the science community and I felt like the book addressed it in a realistic way. Its very difficult to deal with workplace sabotage, sexism, bullying etc. Its a huge issue which I think the book tackled well.

The spicy content was fabulous. I went and hunted down Hazelwood's novellas as soon as I was finished because I needed more.

The banter and secondary characters were also top notch.
Highly recommend.

Oh, this sweet, sweet love story! It's so easy to fall in love with Olive, with all her tender insecurities and fierce drive. You can't help for root for her in this tantalizing forbidden love/fake dating romance. Adam is such a perfect hero, striking the perfect balance between protective and supportive. Contemporary romance fans will love this one.

This books is simply perfect! It has it all: great chemistry, lovely characters and an amazing setting. I loved every second I spend reading this book.

The academic setting was done so well! I'm currently also in the academic world and it's so competitive. I think Ali Hazelwood pictured that really well.

I loved Adam and Olive, they are just so cute together.

I will definitely be reading more of this author.

The hype with this one was so strong that it took me a while to read it. I enjoyed the STEM aspect and yay for all the Reylo fans.

While I enjoyed the writing here, I found the storyline incredibly problematic. An advisor and a student? Just no. No. I finished it but it was a disappointment.

I read this book in 5 hours. I think that alone speaks for itself, but Ali Hazelwood does magic in these pages that makes you never want to surface for air.

Olive wants to convince her best friend Anh that it’s okay for her to date Jeremy, Olive’s ex-boyfriend. Anh doesn’t buy it so Olive does the first thing that comes to her mind. She ends up kissing the first man she sees who happens to be the intimidating and critical professor Adam. They end up having a fake relationship that benefits them both.

This was definitely one of the most hype romance books ever so I was quite nervous getting in to it. Thankfully I got easily hooked. Olive is awkward, smart, and her determination is very commendable. Adam is grumpy and serious but sweet. The writing is simple and entertaining but I wasn’t a fan of the third person POV. Aside from the romance, I liked the focus on women in STEM and the struggles they’re facing on a daily basis. Embarassing and inappropriate PDA aside, I had a great time reading this book. I can say that it’s worth the hype.

This book was perfection.
I will copy my friend on the fact that I haven't been consumed by a book to the point that I read until 1am a couple nights in a row in a while. This book was just that good.

The banter between the characters was adorable. We can feel that Levi cares so much through tiny little sweet things he does throughout the book. They not only created a friendship but a chemistry, and it was beautiful.

The drama regarding the science and her work in this book is hellllla interesting! I was HYPED!

Rodrigues is the sweetest character ever. I love him. He's an amazing friend and he adores Olive :')

Be ready for the best sex scene I've ever read 😂 Yes, yes. It must be said here. The sex scene is fucking insane!

This is what I have to say 🤷🏻‍♀️ You must read this book. YOU MUST.

Olive and Adam. I loves them! I've decided Ali Hazelwood is now one of my favorite authors. This was such a sweet love story. There were a few parts that were very awkward (and unprofessional) between the characters, but I have fallen in love with her depiction of women in STEM careers and the relationships between people who don't have a lot of experience falling in love (or even dating).

I get the hype! I really loved this one! Women in STEM, navigating academia, fake dating trope, and a seemingly uptight, intense, grumpy man. Ok, so he's an asshole. But of course we see multiple sides to asshole Adam. And then there's little Miss ray of sunshine Olive. Their chemistry was believable and really fun to watch develop. But Holden kinda stole my heart too! I mean, I still had the hots for Adam but probably because that seems to be my type. :D The pages flew by on this one and it was perfect to read on vacation. I did get VERY irritated by Adam constantly calling Olive a smart ass. It literally made me cringe each time. But still highly recommend because I think that's definitely more of a me thing!
