Totally lived up to the hype! I just LOVED this! Adam is my new fictional crush… respectful, smart, successful, brooding, hot. I like him! Olive was such a great character to root for…complex, fun, incredibly smart and determined. ⁣

This is fake dating at its finest, throw in some forced proximity and it’s just fun! There is some of my biggest romance pet peeve, lack of communication, but it wasn’t overdone or too frustrating. ⁣

If you want a great book that will make you laugh and swoon, this was five out five stars for

This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed it more than I expected! It was steamy, fun, lighthearted, unafraid to explore difficult topics.

While I really hated the "miscommunication" trope, and how much it was centered, it didn't distract me from my enjoyment of the story much.

I can see why TikTok loves this book, and I can't wait for more from Ali Hazelwood.

This was great, a lot of fabulous rep like women in stem and demisexual. However, for me personally, there was a few awkward moments that were too awkward and/or over the top for me. Also, while the steam was good it was a bit late in the book, and seemed to not really fit Adam's personality at all. I get the whole public vs. private persona but it felt beyond that

This book was enjoyable. I love exploring the world of academia. The forced proximity and fake dating were fun. This book deals with heavier topics but it is done well.

PhD candidate Olive Smith ends up fake dating the resident faculty jerk, Adam Carlsen, in this delightful adult contemporary romance.

The Love Hypothesis is one of the very few stories to make me waffle between a four- and five-star rating. Olive and Adam's romance is the perfect balance between romantic and cringey. While their fake dating charade felt over the top considering the circumstances, their growing attraction and emotional attachment to one another made it easy to root for them. In particular, it felt validating and powerful to see a demisexual women learn to embrace herself and her sexuality. While the term is never explicitly stated (although asexuality is), it's a very prominent part of Olive's story.

It's not without its flaws. Olive's ultimate nemesis (other than her self-esteem issues) felt very mustache-twirling evil and her lies toward the end of the novel got repetitive. I'm also not sold on her friendship with Ahn. Ahn pushed her into situations where she was obviously uncomfortably (whether the fake dating was real or not), and yet it felt like those moments were swept under the rug. I think a scene where the two talked about Olive's lies and Ahn's pushiness would have added a richer layer to the narrative.

So delightful and fun! I loved both Olive and Adam, and I loved how their relationship progressed throughout the book. My only issue was that some of the situations they found themselves in required me to suspend *a lot*of. disbelief… but otherwise, this was a heartwarming, steamy, escapist read that I couldn't put down!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

I can’t say enough good things about: amazing representation, lgbtq characters, aromantic and asexual discussions, #metoo movement discussions, women in STEM and diversity. Such a great fake dating trope storyline as well. I’m obsessed with this author.

I enjoyed this one a lot! I especially loved the university setting and that the delightful main characters are scientists.

This book was AMAZING. From start to finish I couldn't stop smiling.

Going in I was expecting a cute romcom but I got so much more. Olive was fun and easy to love. She was such a well fleshed out character with believable flaws. I'm no scientist but the author did a fantastic job making me enjoy Olive's work and purpose.

Adam was SO swoon worthy. From the first moment you meet him I was totally in love. He was so sweet and patient with Olive and their relationship was just goals!

This was honestly one of my favorite reads of the year and I can't wait to read more from this author in the future!

I loved THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS so much! I started it last night and stayed up late reading it. When I woke up I immediately went to finish the rest. The writing is fresh and fun, the romance is the SWEETEST, and the whole cast of characters is amazing! Olive and Adam are dorky and endearing and I just adored them.
This was a fantastic debut and I already can’t wait for more from Ali Hazelwood!

The Love Hypothesis follows Olive Smith, a Ph.D. student who is trying to convince her best friend, Anh, that she doesn't like a man she previously dated so that Anh will act on her feelings for said man. Without thinking, Olive ends up kissing Adam Carlsen, a professor in her department, as a way of showing Anh that she has moved on. This spur of the moment action leads to Olive and Adam fake dating as it benefits both of them in different ways. But in typical romance fashion, their fake dating isn't so fake.

This book has been getting so much praise, and I can only add to that. This was an incredibly fun and engaging read. There were aspects of this book I didn't think I would like, including the grad school setting focused on STEM and the single POV instead of dual, but neither bothered me at all. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes the grumpy/sunshine trope.

The fact that this is a debut really blows my mind! I already know Ali Hazelwood is going to be an auto-buy author for me from now on and I can't wait for her 2022 release!

The book started off as a 5/5 stars then went to 4/5 and finally 3/5. I didn’t enjoy the pacing/predictability of the story. It could be that this books was so hyped up and usually in those circumstances they never live up to my expectations. All in all this wasn’t a horrible book…but I expected so much more out of it. I’m disappointed that this didn’t blow my mind like it did for everyone else. If you want a regular romance book then def read this BUT if ur an avid romance reader/VERY PICKY then u might not enjoy this. The love hypothesis was a good read and I’d recommend it to people that love contemporary romance.

I really enjoyed the humor in Olive's thought processes in this book. She is one of my favorite female lead characters in a romcom. Adam is the perfectly logical opposite of her quirky personality and these two are so fun together. The attraction between them is hot and the steam factor high. The narrator Callie Dalton does a fantastic job of capturing the chemistry between them and the hilarity of Olive's inner monologue. I also loved that this book was about a female in STEM and academia.

I always enjoy a good fake dating romance and also love stories featuring found families so this novel has all the best elements to suit my taste. Olive has found her person and would do anything for her, including pretending to date an intimidating, cranky, genius professor. Adam has his own reasons for going along with the charade as he is repeatedly dazzled by Olive in this genuinely sweet story.

I've never been so obsessed with a romance. Squeee!! Juicy misunderstandings, hurt/comfort, smut, a big protective dude, etc...does it get any more perfect? Olive and Adam are so much fun and having a main character be a woman in STEM...obsessed.

I delayed reading this book for so long because so many people said it was so good and I was scared I would be disappointed. And goodness, I could not have been more wrong. Adam is the broody character dreams are made of and Olive is the STEM queen we want to see more of in the world. This fake dating story is utterly delightful. From fun forced encounters by well meaning friends to the dreaded threat of only one hotel bed to the very self-aware acknowledgment of its tropey-ness to the steamy steam steam, I loved everything about this book from start to finish. My only regret is not know it was a Kylo/Rey fanfic, because as an Adam fan, let's just say I would have read this through a very different lens! One million percent recommend!

Hi hello I will never shut up about this book for as long as I live. It was my absolute favorite book of 2021 and after reading this early copy, I went and got the beautiful Book of the Month version. I tore through it in 24 hours because I just couldn't stop reading it! I was completely charmed by the characters and sucked in by the plot. It had almost every trope I love and was done in way that felt realistic, which is a feat in and of itself. I would recommend this to any of my romance loving friends and can't wait to read more from this author!

Thank you Penguin Randomhouse International and Berkley Romance for providing the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Love Hypothesis is without a doubt the BEST ROMANCE AND DEBUT NOVEL OF 2021. PERIOD.

Olive Smith is an intelligent Ph.D. candidate whose quite unlucky in the romance department when her best friend dates her former date. It kind of breaks the girl code. To prove that she's unaffected with the situation, she kissed the first guy she sees around and happens to be the grumpy professor Adam Carlsen. They started fake dating as a deal. When things get well, something complicated happens putting their careers at stake.

I won't give more details because it'll spoil you. With everything I just read, this novel DESERVES THE HYPE. The characters are lovable and the romance between them had me grinning like an idiot! It is an unputdownable book you want to devour all day without distractions. I almost ran out of tabs marking every line, scenes and quotes on this novel.

Olive is an awkward heroine who lacks self-confidence. She's simple, lovely, intelligent and humble in every way. A professional aspiring scientist who perseveres to achieve her dreams. I adore her so much and her character development is amazing. I'm glad she's surrounded with good people like Anh and Malcolm.

There is something hot about smart and mysterious guys and ADAM CARLSEN is one of them. Yes, he's a grumpy and brutally frank as a professor. Behind that attitude lies a sweet, caring and thoughtful man. I AM SO SMITTEN GUYS. He is included on my favorite book boyfriends/husbands list. I VOLUNTEER TO PUT SUNSCREEN ON HIS BODY. HAHAHAHA!!

I love it. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a grumpy/sunshine trope book. It's worth it. I am looking forward for Ms. Hazelwood's upcoming books.
