If one judges a book by its cover, it seems pretty clear that this title should be fun. Just look at the characters; their names are sure to make adults smile.
I loved the imagination of this author. Just think, every chicken tucked in its own bed and even some with bathrobes! The plot has to do with a competition, the most important event of the year. But, horrors (!), who is hen-napping the contestants and why? Luckily, witch, Miss Henrietta is on the case.
The illustrations are whimsical and fun. My only quibble is that children may find the final twist a little confusing.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
In Chickentown, hens and people live side by side. Hens are beloved members of each family and have their own rooms with a cozy bed and everything they like. Every year, the Golden Feather competition is being held, crowning the Hen of the Year. Here the mystery starts! Just a few days before the competition starts, hen after hen is being kidnapped and only some clues are left behind. With each missing chicken there is a new clue culminating in a nice twist at the end.
The illustrations of this picture book are just gorgeous! Children will have fun trying to figure out who the clues belong to and solving the mystery.
What a fun mystery.
Growing up, I was always interested in mystery stories but felt that I couldn't look much further than Hardy Boys, and this proves that in this day and age children have more access to mysteries.
What a fun ride!
The Chickentown Mystery by Albert Arrayás is a cute little picture book. Who keeps stealing all the chickens before the Golden Feather competition? The mystery unfolds through a series of beautiful illustrations. Kids will Love it!
The Chickentown Mystery is a fun and cute little picture book about a town where chickens participate in a big competition, but a few days before the competition, several chickens start to disappear. Clues are left behind such as ruffled feathers, footprints, a ripped chair, some tufts of fur, and so on. Children will enjoy reading the punny names of the chickens and be surprised by the twist at the end!
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
In Chickentown hens live with people and do things the same way. The chickens sleep in a bed, watch tv while sitting in a chair, and wear bathrobes. They have a Golden Feather competition to select the best hen each year, but this year there won't be as many contestants because they keep disappearing. The thief leaves clues behind but are they deceiving? I think the subject might be a little scary for a children's picture book, but it works out in the end.
I received a free digital copy from NetGalley.
I enjoyed this short storybook. Interesting switch on the main characters. Would have liked to know more about the fox.
Such an awesome mystery set in Chickentown! Who is kidnapping the chickens from town right before the Golden Feather competition? No spoilers! I loved this story and it's illustrations which are bright and colorful. A book I highly recommend to kids of all ages. Thanks #netgalley for the early review copy! I loved it!
Beautiful, whimsical, and fun illustrations throughout. I liked the “twist” ending, very unique for a children’s picture book.
A quirky little story about some missing chickens and a plan to catch the culprit. I thought the book was very cute but was left wanting a bit with the ending.
This is a cute enough picture book about a chicken-napping.
I suppose it is meant to be fun and light, but to me it was not. Even if the outcome, in the end, pointed to a somewhat happy ending, it didn't sit right with me.
As someone who has chickens, having chickens seem to be kidnapped by a fox is a terrifying thing to have in a picture book, even if the chickens get rescued, and the fox is a jealous chicken.
The odd thing is that the jealous chicken, disguised as a fox, didn't gain anything by pretending to be kidnapped and then doing the same to the other chickens.
So, no it is not fun, and although I love the drawings, I would not recommend this to children, especially if they have chickens.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Fun story, with beautiful and well made illustrations. The reader is curious to discover the mystery of the city, and the twist in the story is certainly very interesting for children. I loved reading and I'm sure the children's audience will love this mystery.
Thank you NetGalley, Albert Arrayás and CrackBoom! Books for the ARC of The Chickentown Mystery.
This is my personal review.
The Golden Feather competition in Chickentown has a mystery just days before it happens when hens are disappearing. The mystery is easy, and the clues are fun for the children to try to figure out.
The illustrations in the book are wonderful. This is a fun and wonderful book to share with your children.
