I really enjoyed this book. Emma’s alcoholic husband dies in a car accident the day she wanted to confront him about this drinking. As it turns out James had secrets that Emma was unaware of. It was interesting to see her unravel the truth!
This is a 3.5 rounded up to a 4 for me. This was a super intriguing read, and I did not see the end of this one coming. I kept going back and forth on who I thought was behind everything going on and found it hard to trust anyone. Some of the plot points felt very random, but I guess they were just there to throw the reader off. Overall, I enjoyed this one but it didn't overly WOW me.
This is a thriller with multiple 3rd person POVs. It is part murder mystery and part mystery thriller.
This book has multiple POVs. There is Emma (James' wife) and their teen kids Hunter and Kelsey. There is her good friend Lizzie and her daughter Willow. And Emma's other best friend Gray.
This was an interesting mystery. However there were a lot of narrators. So it was difficult to feel invested in any of them.
There were a lot of secrets. And I did enjoy the story as I was reading it. However I'm not sure that I found the ending completely satisfying.
Taking a dive deeper into what happens behind closed doors. This book was intriguing, and questionable. The pacing was a little slow but still kept my attention. Please beaware of the trigger warnings before heading into this one.
I absolutely loved this book! I found it hard to put down. I highly recommend reading it! You won’t be disappointed.
Wish you were gone starts with the discovery of a death, James, who is a terrible abusive father.
As a result, Emma starts discovering many secrets, things she would have never guessed.
This was an okay thriller, it might be because I read thrillers so often that I saw most of the twists coming and therefore I was not shocked as the story developed.
I also try to connect to the characters but I could not connect to any of them, the story is told in multiple POV's but that still didn't help with the connection. I didn't find the characters likeable therefore I didn't feel bad or anything for them.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book
In the wake of her husband’s fatal car crash, Emma is left with words unsaid and an unraveling of who her husband projected to be and the man who is really wise.
Scott’s first foray from YA to adult fiction is a twisty domestic thriller. Unreliable characters. Dual timelines. Multiple POV. Secrets and surprises.
My thanks to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy.
Holy smokes. I've never come across a book before with soo many secrets and lies. Literally every single character had a massive secret that they were hiding. However, as they always do, one by one each secret starting to come out and by the end the puzzle was finally solved. What puzzle you may ask? Well that would be the Puzzle of what happened to James Walsh?
Emma has finally worked up the courage to leave her husband. She had the entire thing planned out. She was meeting him for supper and was going to just do it then. Only James doesn't show up. The next time Emma sees James, he has crashed drunkingly into their garage. Now this is when the secrets of their family and what they were hiding finally starts to come out. Emma starts to look into who James really was, and man oh man, the secrets we find there are even better. So basically what I'm saying is, this book has a lot of secrets and it was fun reading about them all!
Having the psychological thriller genre as my main reading preference, I found that this book started out quite strong but quickly sort of flatlined. The beginning of the book did grab my attention and kept me engaged through the turmoils of Emma and her family; however, as the storyline progressed I became less and less engaged in the book. There were some twists of plot within the story and some parts were suspenseful and the author was able to finish on a moderately strong note. That being said I would give this book a 3.5 stars and probably would recommend to other readers.
Wish You Were Gone by Kieran Scott is a slow burn, perhaps too much of a slow burn for me.
I don't often read Mystery/Thriller books but thought I'd check one out after reading the synopsis - Emma and her children live in fear of husband James' drinking and anger issues. And when Emma finally gets the courage to confront James, she doesn't get her chance. Instead, James' dies as his car crashes into their garage. His death is chalked up to an unfortunate accident - but was it really?
I will be honest, I didn't love this book, the main reason being that I didn't really connect to any of the characters, which is a must for me.. I didn't dislike this book either - it just wasn't for me.
Thank you to Net Galley and Simon & Schuster for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for a copy of this arc.
This one started off strong and was a pretty solid read. I've been hooked on this genre as of late, so this was a good, fun read that I enjoyed. However, nothing really stood out as spectacular for me, landing this in the middle of the genre.
a great thriller!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for providing me with an EArc of "Wish You Were Gone" by Kieran Scott in exchange for an honest review
This one started out strong and seemed really promising but it fell flat for me. Generally I really love short chapters, but these ones were almost too short, with too many characters to keep track of. I also was not a fan of how the storyline jumped all over. It was sometimes hard to keep track of the timeline for some reason. And none of the characters were very likeable so I was like "who am I supposed be caring for here?". We all know everyone is better off with James Walsh dead, so I need to care about the other characters to be invested, and I just couldn't get there. And the bickering "mean girl" vibes from the main characters two best friends was just weird. Are adult women really like that? Yikes. Anyway! I was surprised by the ending so there was that at least!
HOLD MY DOG: say what?!
I could not believe this amazing novel! I couldn't get enough of each persona's narration and the lead up to what really happened to James was unbelievable. You keep thinking you know what happened, who did it, but no way! Just you wait until secrets are revealed - which there are plenty of! Outstanding! I'm still processing this crazy ride. Absolutely riveting!
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me this ARC.
This book started like it would be a great book but I found it dragged on and it wasn’t till the last few chapters that it picked up. I couldn’t find anything to like about the characters, the simply didn’t appeal to me. It was so confusing trying to keep straight who was the widow and who was her friends. The chapters jumped from one person to the other which I normally enjoy but this time it was very disjointed. The premise of the book was good but it just didn’t flow well and the characters lacked personality. I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley giving me the opportunity to read this book.
When I was younger, one of my favourite books was “I was a Non-Blonde Cheerleader” (still love the name to this day haha). Imagine my surprise when I recognized Kieran Scott’s name on this soon-to-be-released thriller “Wish You Were Gone”.
This novel lived up to my excitement and reignited my memory of how much I enjoyed Scott’s older YA novels. “Wish You Were Gone” was a steadily-paced, twisted domestic thriller which kept me intrigued until the very end. Scott writes well between multiple characters and time frames which sets up the story well, although you don’t always see the full picture.
I will DEFINITELY look forward to the next novel from this author- fingers crossed it’s another thriller!
Big thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for this ARC!
3.5 rounded up!
Wish You Were Gone is an engaging, slow burn domestic thriller. If you like Liane Moriarty or Lisa Jewell, you will enjoy Keiran Scott! I devoured this book in just over 24 hours.
Emma Walsh’s life is thrown into chaos when her husband, James, is killed in a horrific accident right outside their home. However, as events unfold the reader is left to wonder if it was really an accident at all. Every character in this novel has something to hide and Scott does a wonderful job of using these secrets to build suspense.
Scott also employs multiple points of view to narrate to the same effect.
However, it’s not pure suspense. At the heart of this novel is a story about the bonds of female friendship, the impact of domestic violence, and the complicated relationship between the three teenage characters.
While some may struggle with the pace at which the mystery unravels, I personally enjoyed the ride.
This was the first Kieran Scott novel I have read and her first foray into this genre. I was pleasantly surprised at her ability to weave a tale that was both suspenseful and emotionally charged. Looking forward to reading another!
Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the free digital copy in exchange for a fair review.
I could really relate to Emma and her fantasies about James not coming home. And the guilt that comes from those fantasies. As a result, I could really relate to Emma and her story kept me reading even though I wasn't hooked on the multiple points of view. There were a few "clues' to what might have happened the night James died that felt a little heavy-handed as well.
But 3/4 in, everything started to come together and there were some damn fine plot twists as well.
An entertaining story full of secrets.
When James, father, husband and beloved co-owner of a PR company dies suspiciously his wife is determined to find out what happened. Everyone has secrets, including Emma’s two best friends.
This book was a decent way to pass time but not very memorable. That you to NetGalley Simon & Schuster Canada for the digital ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

This book is about Emma Walsh and her kids Hunter and Kelsey. One seemingly normal day, everything changes. Her husband James drives his car through the Garage and dies. What happens next is a tale of secrets and plot twists as the true events of that horrific night unravel, proving that things are not always as perfect as they seem.
Ouff this book had me hooked from the start. I was so intrigued and interested in what was happening that it was hard to put down! I really enjoyed the writing style. the characters were complex and well written and this story had multiple POV chapters, which if you know me, is my favourite thing! also the chapters were short which was bonus and helped to make this a quick read. overall in my opinion, this was a good thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't predict the plot twist and so I definitely had a *gasp* moment. I gave this 4 stars and I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quick and captivating thriller book to read.
