Unfortunately I didn’t very much like this novel, there were to many sub-plots going on. I didn’t get the intention at all of the author. Also The story is told in many different points of views which adds more confusion than clarity. The writing was not to bad, but there were no twists and turns rither. It felt more like womans fiction rather than a thriller.
Nonetheless, thank you NetGalley / Bookouture for providing me with this arc in return for an honest review.
This book! This book had a lot of characters and I had somewhat a hard time trying to keep up with who was who, but when I got that down I really enjoyed it. The cover is what drew me in and I couldn’t wait to find out the ending and it did not disappoint.
Balanced Yet Contrived. This is a story where you almost feel like it is more of a 4*, but there is nothing *really* there from a more objective standpoint that I try to rate on to justify the reduction. Yes, it could use better separation of its various narrators' voices, rather than just the one word at the top of the chapter with their name. Yes, at times it feels that so many situations are thrown in just because the author was hoping some bookstagrammer would hashtag that situation and help market the book based on it. Yes, talking to cops without an attorney present is so GLARINGLY stupid and cringeworthy. *PARTICULARLY* for minorities. And yet, even with all of this, the story ultimately works. Not as a "thriller", mind you, but more as a women's fiction/ suspense character study. As a thriller... well, the book spends the first half setting up the titular Party, about 10-15% on the actual Party, and then the back part of the book dealing with the aftermath. It has the requisite secrets, lies, backstabbing, and comeuppance, and ultimately it really does tell a fairly balanced tale from a few different perspectives, but it just never quite feels as satisfying/ mind bending as many readers in this space typically look for. And yet, again, nothing truly "this is objectively wrong/ bad" here to really hang a star reduction on. Thus, 5* and recommended.
Oh this book was so good, I could see it as a movie before my eyes! I love the secrets and sins and I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time! WOW!
This story involves three families in London, in the upscale Notting Hill neighbourhood. Nella, beautiful and wealthy, is organizing a street party. She asks Ruby and Melissa to help. Ruby is a single mum of a 15 year old boy, Zach, and Melissa is a married woman who works at the local gym. They are best friends. Ruby is overwhelmed to be included in the wealthy world of Nella and her husband Marcus. Their daughter Willow will be starting at Zach's school in the fall and they ask him to be her mentor there.
I found this book started out as a thriller, with a lot of clues to what was going to happen and I expected something terrible. But when the event happened, it was a let-down. Lots of cliff hangers which turned out to be nothing much. I really couldn't care less about these people. It was slow moving and ultimately uninteresting. I almost gave it up several times.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy of this novel.
I was unable to connect with this book. I couldn't keep track of all the characters and the conversations seemed too dull. I had read a few good reviews of this book in my network and so came back to it several times, but each time I put it down without being able to engage in the story.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
By nature I don’t take risks. I calculate, assess, and make a decision. Deciding to read a book based off a blurb is a risk. Many times it has paid off for me, but not this time. The Street Party failed to engage me. There were a lot of people that made the narrative too crowded. The switching back and forth usually doesn’t bother me, but it didn’t help interest me in this story. This book was not for me.
Ever be stuck at a social gathering where your attendance is more or less required but all you can think about is how soon you can leave? A constant looking at your watch and inching towards the door ever so slowly so you can finally breath and be free of all the unnecessary chatter and drama. That’s kinda how I felt reading this book. I found none of the characters endearing, and I just wanted the story to be over. Went in expecting a thrilling page turner and ended up with a drama induced he said she said. While I’m sure there is a market for this story, it totally missed its target with this reader. If the blurb got your attention, give it a try. While not my fav, you may enjoy!
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **
I did enjoy this book but found it difficult to keep up with all the different characters (might be old age!). There were lots of twists and turns and the premise was very good.
I would recommend this book.
This story takes place involving three friends from different backgrounds who plan a street party / fund raiser that goes wrong in the worst way. Cops are called and it takes off from there...
I really enjoyed this book and I really like this Authors work. It had mystery, intriguing parts, jealousy and plenty of ah-ha moments. I always love the alternating points of view. Everyone has secrets it seems and are trying their best not to let it get out. This was indeed a slow burn for me and I savored every moment. The plot stayed at a steady pace and the action was non stop making you want more . I would definitely recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion

The neighbourhood of Northgate Square was not ready for Nella. When Nella and Marcus move into the community, she quickly made herself the queen bee. And what better way to exercise her influence than to take over the planning and execution of a neighborhood street party to celebrate summer and raise funds for a charity?
What neither Nella nor our other two protagonists, Melissa and Ruby, anticipated was that something will happen and affect all of their lives before the end of that night. Someone is lying, but who?
If the first half of The Street Party had been shorter or faster, I would have enjoyed it more. Although my feelings for the book's beginning are lukewarm, and I was slightly lost following the many characters, Seeber backed up that choice in the second half. The slow start was vital because it allowed us to really know all the characters well by the party's time and understand their actions after the book's important event. To make it clear, I can not fault the second half of the book; it delivered everything I want in a book: terrific characters, consistent arcs, compelling prose, and a thought-provoking ending.
As I mentioned, The Street Party was too slow for me in the beginning. I had a hard time reading it until the party happened, but then it was like a curtain was lifted and the angels were singing. What happened in the second half of the book was nothing short of magic!
I literally could not put it down, and I fell in love with so many characters! I particularly love and can relate to Ruby – her parenting is fantastic, and she is the definition of a strong woman. I want to be Ruby when I grow up or have her as my best friend! I don't want to spoil the book, but there's this one particular character's arc that got my heartstrings. To mention their name might be considered spoilers; I apologize if I am being vague - but it's for your reading pleasure!
One thing Seeber did really well was developing the characters and making readers understand their motivation. It was hard not to empathize with all the characters, even those whose actions are dubious or morally gray. I mean, all except for Rebekah – she was something else! Bahahaha.
The Street Party is deliciously British. I was there for all the references and slang. When a character gives the "V" as another character walks away, this one scene got me cheering.
Ultimately, in my opinion, The Street Party is a book about friendship, sisterhood, and how we never know what happens behind someone else's closed doors. Griffin was terrific at exposing how we all can project a different image to others to protect parts of their lives they want to keep secret. The friendship between Melissa and Ruby was beautifully imperfect and heartwarmingly deep. The fact that they both are at the center of the conflict was a genius choice. It was a privilege to watch their bond and how they deal with the aftermath of what happened. I also felt that the way mother-child relationships were portrait was quite remarkable. You might disagree with the parenting style of some characters, and bad choices were made, but one thing all the women have in common was that they all did what they felt was best for their children.
The neighbourhood of Northgate Square was brilliantly used as a microcosm of societal injustices, overt racism, elitism, and interconnectedness. One's action will impact more lives than one's own -always. The Street Party was a raw expose of many wrong things in our society and how having someone who supports us can be the determinant in overcoming adversity.
Even though I didn't enjoy the beginning and still feel it could have been shorter, I understand it was essential to the characters' development. The second half more than made up for it, though. It was strong, impactful, and authentic. I'm always seeking books with a message of women empowering other women, and Seeber gifted us with notable examples of that.
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to Bookouture, NetGalley and Claire Seeber for providing me with a copy of The Street Party

This book was not for me. I hate to not finish a book but I gave up on this one about a third of the way thru. It was very hard to follow and I really didn't like the characters at all. It was almost too "wordy" if that can be the case with a book.. Others seem to enjoy it tho, so give it a chance.
Thank you to Netgalley for my advanced copy. I really liked the plot of The Street Party. This story was full of twists that you’ll never expect:
All the characters have a secret, some would do anything to keep it that way. I found some of the characters a rbit overwhelming, but overall I liked the story a lot and would recommend it.
I enjoyed this book, however it was a slow burner in parts, so I found at times I was putting it down to pick up something more fast paced.
I liked the characters and how there was different storylines going on within the book.
What a crazy read! This one has some plot twists I didn’t see coming. False accusations, drugs, a whole bunch of people who are not what they seem and almost everyone has a secret. This book has a lot going on and had a solid plot. I did find the character transitions a little distracting but overall it worked. Parts of this story were heartbreaking as well as suspenseful as heck! The ending was well done.
As a disclaimer I reside in Canada so some of the language/ slang/ terms in this were not what I am used to. I read many books from UK authors but this was the first book where i struggled with some of the language and it was a bit distracting. But overall the book was very well done
I assumed this book would be easy to get into - based on the premise. It was a difficult, halty start and a lot of effort was made to like or care for the characters. However, once the *event* takes place, it goes by quickly and you want to find out answers, This book doesn't really fall into the Big Little Lies camp as not much happens but the author is great at writing about atmospheric tension and creating it.
Would recommend for a fun read!
This book was a bit of a struggle for me. I felt it overly long and had too many characters, it was hard to keep track. The story is told from the points of view of three women, from three very different families and backgrounds. It is a saga of women, families and social class, with every other social issue you can think of thrown in! Whilst the story was good, it did appear that there was a tick list that the author had to use to make sure all the hot topics of the day were mentioned, so seemed a little forced.
Thank you NetGalley.
The writing flows well, however I found it difficult to keep track of the various characters and their partners and children. Many of the characters have secrets, and these develop as preparation for the Street Party are underway. Suspense builds, and about half way through the novel the Street Party happens, as does a life changing event.
A slow burn novel, with plenty of characters - as in real life.
This book is written in my favorite style! Multiple point of views! We follow along 3 neighbors all dealing with there own separate issues. Their lives intersect as they plan a street party to bring the neighborhood together. The 3 women all have kids the same age who also have there own teen drama unfolding.
The night of the party, the parents are caught up in there own issues and an accusation gets hurled out the next morning by on of the teens. This book touches on social class and standing, trust in your children, and also highlights that we don't always know what is going on in other families, even when they are right next door.
I really enjoyed this read and recommend this book!
I really wanted to enjoy this book and felt like it had a lot of great components. The author tried to incorporate a lot of relevant issues which was nice. However at times I found myself forgetting about a secondary character and their child and having to go back and reread. I did read this book until the end but I had a hard time with the ending as I felt like some things still were not firmed up or closed. Overall though I felt as though the story was engaging and the storyline was good. I would give this book 3/5 stars. Thank you netgalley and publisher for the advanced copy!
