I'm running out of things to say about Lisa Regan! Her 11th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series and it doesn't get much better than this.
Josie is stubborn, strong and determined, one of my favourite female detectives in this genre. This book, once again, sees Josie in the thick of things. Also dealing with her own personal chaotic life. Hush Little Girl is a heart breaker!
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
Finishing Hush Little Girl, I’ve completed the entire Josie Quinn series to date. I’ll admit there is nothing I enjoy more than a good series to wade into and this is definitely one.
Josie, like the victims in HLG, has a complicated, violent, and even deadly secret. That history shades her actions as a detective as surely as it does her personal life. She’s often a rogue, taking off on her own into dangerous situations that invoke the wrath of Chief Chitwood, to solve a case. In fact, this book ends on that note and another sad blow to Josie’s family.
In addition to writing a good mystery, Lisa Regan shines a light on several mental health problems. Regan did so in an understandable and enlightening way. This added to the creditably of the plot and gave it a bit more depth.
I’ve enjoyed this series and am interested in seeing how Josie matures in her career (if she manages to stay employed) and her marriage.
Thank you Net Galley for the ARC.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this emotionally charged book
its josie and noah wedding day and everyone who means something to them are in attendance, its going to be a lovely day but then a murdered victim is found right at the church where they are getting married and before long josie and noah are rushing out in their wedding outfits to help
and from there it goes downhill fast.... the girl who has been murdered josie identifies and the race is on to find the killer and inform the mother
but its get a whole lot worse for josie and her team
oh my word i couldnt put this book down..full of red herrings galore and i thought i knew who the killer was but was blindsided at the very end
a lot of heartache for josie and i admit to having tears streaming down my face at the end of this one
looking forward to more in this series and from the author
On Detective Josie Quinn and Lieutenant Noah Fraley’s wedding day the body of 12-year-old Holly Mitchell is found on the church steps, and so the page turner starts! Off grid living, family secrets, OCD, …
Book 11 and how come this is the first one I read!! You can easily read this book on its own but after reading it I do want to know more and will have go back. This was a page turner, edge of my seat read from the start! And for me this book could have used a tissue warning, just saying.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early read of this book for my honest opinion
This is book 11 in the wonderful Detective Josie Quinn series and it is by far my favourite one, I know I say this every time but this instalment just had something extra I can’t quite put my finger on why but from the first few pages it gripped me and I took every spare bit of time I had (and I have a lot these days !) to read I was so engrossed, it was just a fabulous five star read.
The marvellous writing of Lisa Regan has really made this a series not to be missed, the characters grow with each book especially that of Josie Quinn who has gone through so much and more so in this latest instalment but she just keeps getting through it and she feels so real to me when I start a new book it’s like being back with an old friend and that also applies to many of the other characters also.
So no rehash of the plot just read the book and if you haven’t read the previous books then please do yourselves a favour and start at the beginning they are so well worth it.
Many many thanks to Lisa Regan you excelled yourself with this one girl !
My thanks also to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Detective Josie Quinn isn't on duty, neither is fiance Lieutenant Noah Fawley but that doesn't stop them rushing to a small church on the outskirts of Denton when the body of a young girl is found on the front steps. Josie recognises the child and goes with colleague Gretchen Palmer to break the devastating news to her mother.
After finding the woman’s body and realising the youngest member of the family is nowhere to be seen Josie knows everyone's plans will be put on hold until they have discovered what happened. None of them can anticipate the heartache to come for everyone before they can move past the secrets and lies and find the truth behind what actually occurred.
This is the eleventh book in Lisa Regan's outstanding series and once again she has excelled herself while leaving her readers in bits! The storyline is totally absorbing, the protagonists on top form, and the backstories as riveting as always. The detailed research undertaken is clear in every scene and there is no let up to the action throughout. There is no cliffhanger but the short author's note at the end makes me even more anxious to read the next instalment whenever it becomes available.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is murder mystery storytelling at its absolute best.
Lisa Regan you have outdone yourself with Hush Little Girl.
I could not put the book down .
Josie Quinn you are my hero! You never take the easy road and go that extra mile to solve the case. You are one kick-ass lady.
When 12 year old Holly is found dead on the church steps the action begins and Josie, Noah and their team go full steam ahead to solve the case that only gets more and more tragic.
Non stop action, twists and turns will keep the lights on to finish the book.
Thanks to NetGalley , Bookouture for the roller coaster read Hush Little Girl. Bring on Book 12 !
Josie Quinn is one of my all-time favorite literary characters. She's smart, brave, and extremely loyal to those she loves. This novel picks up at Josie and Noah's wedding, when the body of a young girl is found on the chapel steps... and another child may be missing With her usual passion, Josie jumps into this case headfirst. With several strange clues, she works the case with her delightful supporting cast of Gretchen, Mett, her family, and even Chitwood! As she unravels the mystery, it seems to only get more puzzling. It's a twisted, page-turning book that will keep you up much past your bedtime!
Hush Little Girl is the eleventh book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I’d read the first one some time ago and although I hadn’t read the others, I found this worked well as a standalone novel.
This is a great police procedural whereby the body of a twelve year old girl is found laid out on the steps of a mountainside church in Denton. As Josie rushes to the scene, she realises she’s met the young girl before. After discovering another body, Josie and her team race against time to find the killer uncovering numerous secrets along the way.
I found this book to be gripping and progressed at a good speed. From reading this book, I certainly want to back and read the other books in the series. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
Detective Josie is shock by presumably 12 year old girl murdered on the front steps of a local church that she is there to investigate. When she sees the girl face she even more shock to know who she is the daughter of the woman who help her when she had car troubles in the side of the road.
When Josie goes to inform Lorelei' of her daughter murder she knows something isn’t right when coming upon Lorelei'’s house and what she finds is Lorelei' murder and her younger daughter Emily missing.
As Josie and her team race to find Emily from becoming the next victim they realize this family has secrets that could’ve gotten them killed.
Enjoyable Mystery
I would like to thank Bookouture for the ARC of Hush Little Girl by Lisa Regan.
This is the first book that I have read of Lisa Regan and I cannot believe I waited this long to read one of her books.
Hush Little Girl is the eleventh novel of the Detective Josie Quinn series. When I requested this book I did not realize at first it was a part of a series and I was a little concerned that I would be completely lost. Lisa Regan did an impressive job of writing this book as its own story and has intrigued me to go back to the beginning of this series and read them all.
Josie Quinn is a Detective in Denton, Pennsylvania. When a twelve-year-old girl is found, presumably murdered, on the front steps of a local church, Josie is there to investigate. Upon the girl's chest is an eerie doll made of pinecones. When Josie sees her face she is shocked and realizes that she recognizes this girl, Holly Mitchell. A few months prior, Holly's mom, Lorelei, had stopped to help Josie, who was stranded on the side of the road after hitting a deer. Josie heads to Lorelei's house to break the terrible news and it is apparent right away that something is wrong. Inside she discovers Lorelei is also dead, and Lorelei's youngest daughter Emily is missing. Emily is eventually found, hiding in a secret hideout in the wall. Soon enough they discover another pinecone doll. "It means he's sorry" Emily soon says. Josie attempts to get more information from Emily she refuses to tell Josie who it is she is referring to. As Josie continues to investigate a tragedy befalls her family. Stricken with grief Josie realizes that she is running out of time and tries to concentrate on solving this case.
Will Josie discover the truth before the killer strikes again?
Even though this was the eleventh book in the Detective Josie Quinn series I was pulled right into this intense and interesting story. Lisa Regan does a great job of writing in such a way that I was able to pick up this book and not feel lost or that I was missing big chunks from the past. The writing in itself was consistent and clear. I felt emotionally involved with the characters, especially Josie.
Detective Josie Quinn was a strong and brave character. Even when the case became personal for her, she was able to hold her head high and persevere. She connected with Emily right away and was able to gain her trust. Because of her own traumatic past, she can relate to and connect with those around her.
The little pine cone dolls being left added elements of mystery and suspense to the story. At first, they seemed kind of creepy but as we learn the symbolism behind them they don't seem so menacing.
This book left me wanting more! I did not want it to end and lucky for me I can go back to the very beginning and read more! Lisa Regan has captured my attention and I can't wait to read her other books.
Best one in the series! Fantastic. I loved everything about it. From page one, you are completely hooked. I couldnt turn the pages fast enough. The whole story flows beautifully with a well-written, well-thought put plot. You are completely invested in the characters and the outcome of the story.
This is one of my favorite series. I highly recommend it! You should most definitely read this series in order to have the best understanding of the characters and their growth throughout the series.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for another amazing read!
I. Don’t. Know. How. She. Does. It.
It’s official: every single Josie Quinn book is better than the last. I couldn’t read Hush Little Girl fast enough, but yet I wanted to slow down and savor it at the same time.
As usual, Regan had me captivated from the first sentence to the last. My heart pounded in my chest, my pulse raced, I shed some tears, and my hands shook (let’s face it, that’s probably from the coffee jitters since I had NO choice but to stay up into the late hours of the night to finish this incredible book, which required a jolt of caffeine on a Thursday evening). Regan’s ability to evoke so much emotion through her words is absolutely incredible and truly inspirational.
Any crime involving a child is hard to fathom and Josie’s latest investigation hit hard. I refuse to spoil the scene that brought me to tears 😭, so I will leave you with this, dear readers...read everything this woman writes. She will not fail you and you will never regret a single word.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for the advance reader copy!
This is the 11th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. It was mind blowingly brilliant!! I read it in a day it was so brilliant.
Having read each and every one of the 11 I thought they couldn't get any better. But this one just blew me away!! And apart from the fast paced, gut wrenching thrilling Detective work I loved the relationship between Josie and her team. Especially her relationship with Noah. Worth 10 stars if possible. A must read for everyone because Lisa Regan never lets her readers down!!
This was such a good book! The unfortunate discovery of a body interrupts a very important event for Josie and Noah, who could never put themselves before a murder case. Especially when it's a young girl. They soon realize she's not the only victim, as her mother was killed and her younger sister is missing from their isolated mountain home. It's crucial to find the girl because they don't want her to be the next victim, as the killer is still at large. Josie and her team soon realize that this little family holds many secrets, extending into the community they hid away from. Working on the case is hard enough, but when Josie's family is put at risk, she can't believe how her life becomes changed forever.
The story is very emotional, sometimes expectedly, but not always, and that's when it's really gut-wrenching. After reading about Josie through 10 previous stories, it's as if you are a part of her family, so when bad things happen to her, it really hits you as the reader! But she's tough and has already shown she can handle what life throws her way. She wouldn't be the amazing detective she was if she didn't take risks and put herself in jeopardy. There's a lot of action in this story to balance out the emotional impact - a perfect blend of sentimental suspense!
.
This is one hell of a gut wrenching book! Be warned when you start reading it, because you will receive one blow after the other. You feelings will be thrown into a blender and mixed to a pulp. Your heart will bleed, tears will fall and gasps will leave your mouth.
There are two different kind of parents. Those who will try to protect their children with every fibre of their being and those who just don’t want to know or leave everything behind when the going gets tough.
But who do you protect when one child’s suffering results in making other suffer too? Who do you protect in that case? After all, they are all your kids and you love them all deeply with their faults and merits.
Again a lot of difficult questions rise for Josie Quinn and her team to find the answers to. I had selected my chief suspect, but was wrong as usual. 😊
Josie and Noah are officers in heart and soul. They always put the victims and finding justice for them before everything else. They are detectives first, ordinary people second. Even the most devastating events can’t keep them from doing their job.
Church bells are chiming more than once. Do they announce happy or sad events though? If you want to find out, there is only one thing you can do: grab a copy of the book and lose yourself in its pages. 5 stars
Thank you Lisa Regan and Bookouture
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Hush Little Girl, the eleventh novel to feature Detective Josie Quinn of the Denton, Pennsylvania PD.
The body of a twelve year old girl is found on the steps of a small church and Josie recognises her as Holly Mitchell, the daughter of a woman who helped her when she needed it. At Holly’s home they find her mother dead and her younger sister missing. Emily Mitchell is found hiding but has too many secrets to offer any clues.
I enjoyed Hush Little Girl for its fast pace and steady stream of reveals, but wasn’t as enamoured by the plot, which seems muddled to me and asks the reader to swallow more implausibilities than normal, usually there are a few but this novel just piles them on. I could list them but that would give away the whole plot.
The novel is told from Josie’s point of view so the reader lives the investigation with her. She is smart and empathetic so she drives the novel, whether making deductions or cajoling Emily into making revelations. Her life changes dramatically in this novel, some of it for the better and some not so much.I like that the author always moves Josie on.
The novel is based on mental illness, or if not illness, aberrant patterns of behaviour. I applaud the effort to shine a light on the characters’ struggles in that respect, but I’m not so sure that co-opting it into a thriller is helpful as it is done in broad brushstrokes.
Despite my reservations Hush Little Girl, is an undemanding, exciting read with plenty to keep the reader interested and turning the pages.
SO many things to love about the latest in the Josie Quinn series! The relationship dynamic between Josie and Noah is perfect. It has to be, because when you read about how Josie stops at NOTHING, risking her life and her career, to save the children who are the victims in this twisted bloody crime, she tests the boundaries of love to the MAX. The events that unfold at a rapid-fire pace will put you through ALL emotions (elated, devastated, terrified and raw) and you won't BELIEVE how Josie's world will be forever changed by the end of the book. I guarantee, you will be changed too!
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for this arc, it jumped to the top of my tbr pile.
Number 11 and finally Josie and Noah are going to live happy ever after, or are they?
Only these two could, on the morning of their wedding, find a body on the steps of the chapel, and so begins a brilliant tale. Lots of crossover between the main and subplots here as they begin to investigate the murder of a young girl. A cast of potential culprits are offered, and the casualties are very close to home before the totally unexpected villain is unveiled.
A truly great read I devoured over two evenings.
Hush Little Girl is a fast paced mystery that keeps the reader glued to the pages from start to finish. The story is cleverly crafted and filled with indepth characters. Set in a landscape of both open hills and dense forest, it combines the ease of womens fiction with the eerie chills of a good thriller. An exciting read.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
