The first book in the three-book series about modern womanhood
Captivating
Here is a debut novel by Jayne Allen titled Black Girls Must Die Exhausted about the story of a black woman with a demanding schedule trying to cope with a situation that has some dire medical issues.
The Plot
At 33 Tabitha Walker has a plan to “have it all.” Educated, a good job, down payment for a nice house, dating; all in place. Until one day, Tabby receives an unexpected blow- a diagnosis that brings her picture-perfect life crashing down. With her dreams suddenly tumbling down, she now has to make one crucial decision; she needs to make a choice, between her career and her home and family. Does Tabby succeed in what she sets out to? Does she compromise on her situation? That’s the book in a gist.
Review
The book has some amazingly strong female characters. I love reading such books and it gives me some sort of emotional strength. I love the depiction of the career focussed Tabitha and the way she evaluates her life and relationships. So very relatable. For a debut novel, this has been fairly decently written. The narrative has the ability to transport you to the story, right into it.
Verdict
A thumbs up definitely. Read if you like plots with strong female characters!
A quick-paced, engrossing novel with a wry, funny voice and a very contemporary feeling. I think a lot of readers will be drawn to how modern this book feels and how accessible and likable the voice is.
