This book was just meh for me. The story was all over the place. I felt like it had potential to be a great story about the effects of racism in a corporation. The racism ended up being something that was mostly written off and mentioned randomly which was strange. It was a quick read and the backstory was interesting. The main character wasn’t very likeable and that made it harder for me to connect to the story.

When Ellice Littlejohn finds her boss and lover Michael Sayles dead in his office in a staged suicide she tries desperately to distance herself from the circumstances of his death in an attempt to protect the carefully constructed career and personnel life she has created. As the story unfolds both Ellice's secrets and those of her executive coworkers at Houghton Transportation Company come to light. The plot, the character development and the unwinding of the mystery are all handled in a way that make for a totally absorbing read.

Ellie Littlejohn is a black corporate attorney who escaped rural Georgia to work in urban Atlanta. Racial protests surround her office and she has been promoted and has become the “token” black woman to squelch the crowds. Oh, but this is so much more than a racial story, there are secrets in her life from the past and the present that bubble up to haunt her and to lead to clues in this murder mystery. Coupled with the sadness of dementia and the pursuit of peace, this book is a contemporary success.

I have worked as a professor in southern medical schools for decades and although not black, I have felt the sting of being treated both “differently” and “specially”. This book will resonate with women, black women, mystery lovers and those interested in social justice.

A well written "who dunnit" with a black female protagonist, attorney whose high level white lover is murdered in his office. She, Ellice Littlejohn, has to deal with bigotry in the office when she is promoted to the company's general counsel. Upon trying to do her job well she becomes suspicious of some of the executives and uncovers illegal activities as well as a local white supremacist organization branch right in her own company. She's blackmailed to keep quiet for fear of others finding out her "secrets." A petty crook brother and murders in her past. She triumphs in the end but not before exposing her secrets and figuring out the real murderer. Kept my interest til the end, and what I really liked was that the author didn't seem to be rushing through the end of her writing as I have found in so many books.

Ellice Littlejohn is a successful Ivy League educated Black Lawyer. As the novel begins she has just opened the door to her White Boss’ office and found him dead of a gunshot wound. She immediately closes the door and retreats to her own office, pretending it’s a normal work day. And I should mention that her boss was also her lover, although their affair was kept secret from their colleagues. Thus begins a fast paced thriller and a deep dive into corporate skullduggery. When Ellice is quickly appointed to replace her boss, tongues start wagging. . Compounding the current secrets is the past she has kept hidden. Wanda Morris skillfully intersperses chapters describing Ellice’s upbringing with the chapters unfolding present day corporate crimes. If this is her debut novel, I certainly look forward to many more suspenseful reads. I thoroughly enjoyed this legal thriller and appreciate the opportunity for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review in my own words.

All Her Little Secrets will appeal to fans of How to Get Away With Murder, Scandal, and The Firm. This legal thriller about a Black female lawyer, up against a world of privilege and greed, is a page turner. Ellice Littlejohn goes head to head with the elite members of a prestigious company who threaten to reveal the secrets she has carefully buried, but they have their own secrets and underestimate Ellice’s grit and determination in uncovering the truth.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for providing this eGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my goodness! This is freaking fantastic legal thriller meets mystery/ suspense keeps you on the edge of your seats, shakes you to the core, blows your mind, forces you to cancel everything: husband, job, pets, last episode of Ted Lasso, massage appointment etc. But it’s totally worth to each cancellation, schedule changing, isolation decision.

From the beginning till the end, Ellice Littlejohn’s story hooks you up and even if you try so hard you cannot put this book down. It gets under your skin, conquers your mind. When you give short reading breaks for sneaks and booze, you still keep speculating: who is the mastermind behind the entire scheme, who could be trusted, how Ellice will survive as the walls are closing in?

You may think Ellice Littlejohn in early forties, an aspiring, successful lawyer has it all: she already reached her life goals including Ivy League degree and well paying job but she’s working so hard for promotion she didn’t get yet as younger and paler skinned colleagues keep climbing the corporate ladders.

She’s not married, no child, a boyfriend but he comes with his baggages ( married, with children, and did I mention he’s also her boss)

She harbors so many secrets about her childhood and teenage years in Chillicothe, Georgia. Something so tragic happens to change her entire life! Something she wants to bury forever! Something shouldn’t be found out unless she wants to lose everything she cared for!

But her usual early morning meeting with her boss/ lover Michael turns into nightmare when she finds him lying in his own blood bath. She couldn’t even call the authorities. She doesn’t want to get involved into investigation so she vanishes from the scene to return back her floor to act like nothing has happened.

The very same day,she gets promoted to replace Michael. The firm executives are merciless enough to move on with their lives and as the protests against the company rises up because of their lack of diversity policy at workplace, they are reckless enough to use Ellice as a pawn to prove they can assign a colored person as executive Vice President.

Naturally she has second thoughts about the offer coming out of nowhere ( actually it’s coming from hell: she takes over a dead person’s place before his body gets cold) She’s gonna be only person at 20th floor : line Black person is expected to speak behalf of Black folks, expected to represent the success and failure of every Black woman who worked in corporate America.

Before she’s thinking over, she gets an email announcing her new position! What? And this is not the only thing makes her feel she’s trapped in her dead boyfriend’s place.

At the first board meeting she’s harassed by her new partners’ racist and sexist comments and Nate who gave him the job seems like so confused, repeating each sentence he says.

Whats going on behind the closed doors? Why she cannot reach emails of Michael? Why some of the partners reject to give her information about some special cases?

And Detective Bradford who is investigating the suicide of Michael informs her the suicide is staged. The murderer may have used Ellice’s missing badge: there are camera records prove her point.

As clock ticks, the walls close on her, Ellice realizes she might be scapegoat of the murder of her boss/ boyfriend and dirty schemes the firm’s executives planned.

She has to find a way to get out which means she has to confront the ugly secrets of her past
Overall: it’s fascinatingly moving, heart throbbing, action packed, smart thriller. Ellice’s traumatic past truly breaks your heart.

I’m rounding up my 4.5 stars to 5 corporate, racism, sexism, harassment, abuse, Black women empowerment stars!

Special thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow and Custom House for sharing arc copy of one of the most anticipated books of this year in exchange my honest thoughts.

“All Her Little Secrets” is narrated by Ellice Littlejohn, the only Black attorney at Houghton Transportation, a primarily all white male corporation in Atlanta, Georgia. Early in the book, Ellice discovers the dead body of Michael Sayres, her boss and secret married lover. Instead of calling the police, she leaves his office where she found his body and returns to her desk two floors below his. The narration hints at a secret from her past that makes her fearful of interacting with the police.

Through a series of flashbacks to Ellice’s impoverished childhood in rural Georgia her secret and the basis for her distrust is slowly revealed. These secrets make her vulnerable to the powerful, racist executives at her company, who appear to be using her to assist them in some nefarious business dealings. Well-drawn characters and a compelling backstory, together with intrigue and danger make this an interesting read.

Best novel of 2021. Highly recommended.
Ellice Littlejohn seemingly has it all: an Ivy League law degree, a well-paying job as a corporate attorney in midtown Atlanta, great friends, and a “for fun” relationship with a rich, charming executive, who just happens to be her white boss. But everything changes one cold January morning when Ellice arrives in the executive suite and finds him dead with a gunshot to his head. And then she walks away like nothing has happened. Why? Ellice has been keeping a cache of dark secrets, including a small-town past and a kid brother who’s spent time on the other side of the law. She can’t be thrust into the spotlight—again. But instead of grieving this tragedy, people are gossiping, the police are getting suspicious, and Ellice, the company’s lone black attorney, is promoted to replace her boss. While the opportunity is a dream-come-true, Ellice just can’t shake the feeling that something is off.
I was gripped when I read it's First chapter and instantly the author pulled me in Elice's world. I cared for her. I became happy when she was happy, sad when she was sad. The characters are written with perfection. Especially Elice's character is brilliant.
Narration and dialogues of the story were simply mind blowing.
Posting my review publically on the release date.
It's definitely a must read of 2021.

I thoroughly enjoyed All Her Little Secrets, a terrific legal thriller. This is the debut novel of author, Wanda M. Morris, a corporate attorney and alumni of Yale Writers Workshop. What a perfect background for a writer of a smart twisty legal thriller. I predict great things for the book and its author – this is one of the best books I’ve read this year and I imagine movie rights will be snapped up soon, if they haven’t already.

Ellice Littlejohn left her past growing up poor in rural Georgia behind. Due to the help of a wonderful adult figure in her life and the recognition of her intellect and potential she was able to attend a private boarding school in Virginia on scholarship and then went on to graduate from Georgetown University, Yale Law School, eventually becoming a corporate attorney. But Ellice has secrets in her past as well as her present that she seeks to hide. When her boss (who she has been sleeping with) is found murdered she is caught up in the escalating dodginess of her colleagues while simultaneously trying to keep her past from being discovered.

You'll love Ellice Littlejohn a successful lawyer who built her career from scratch and seems to have it all, but is harboring quite a few secrets. The novel starts with a bang and never stops until the final surprising and satisfying scene. The story is current and the writing is so sharp. Read as soon as you can.

Whats in the dark will come to light!
With a long buried past, a secret and a brother with a criminal history, Ellice Littlejohn finds her self in a predicament that threatens the life she has built for herself. She must choose between doing whats right and protecting the ones she love or keeping her past hidden.
A fast paced, compulsive read that tells an all too familiar story of racism and sexism in corporate America with a murder mystery in the mix. I absolutely loved it!

A lawyer with secrets in her past is hastily promoted to replace her boss - and lover - found dead in his office and realizes she's being used as part of a cover-up for shady business dealings. This engrossing legal thriller has a satisfying mystery at its core, bolstered by a complex protagonist who is conflicted by her desire to rise above her roots as a poor Black girl in rural Georgia and the need to be true to herself and her family.

Strongly recommended for fans of the genre, and especially for libraries looking to diversify their thriller collections.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy.
