I’ve never read Graceling by Kristin Cashore but I enjoyed the graphic novel so much that I ended up buying the physical book to compare. I loved the storyline and I want to learn how different the actual novel is to the graphic novel. Thank you so much NetGalley for giving everyone the opportunity to read this adventurous graphic novel.

This was an absolute delight of a read! The artwork was so vivid that it added a stronger element of descriptive detail and imagery to the story. The displays of a strong female heroine who goes on a journey to find herself while learning to speak her own mind were beautifully portrayed in this graphic novel adaptation. I believe this will be a read that will leave lasting impressions on both new and old readers.

I just wasn't feeling this one. Despite being a huge fan of Kristin Cashore's Graceling world I couldn't quite get behind the idea of turning it into a graphic novel. Too much of the emotional impact, so strong in Cashore's original work, is lost in very humdrum, cookie cutter illustrations.

I loved getting a visual of this story. Graceling is a great book, and this graphic novel was like a cherry on top.

The original novel is so wonderful that I was really curious about how this would come to life as a graphic novel! I think in general, it did a great job maintaining the plot and designing the characters. The one thing I was a little iffy on was how plain the art was. There were a couple of moments of greatness, like the epilogue, but overall it was a fantasy story told without very fantastical art.

This will be great for my students who aren't quite ready for full-length novels yet. It's a full, rich story that will hold their attention.

It was magical to see my favorite book of all time in a visual way. This is going to be great for reluctant readers. I think some of the illustrations did not fit my minds interpretation of what things looked like in my head. That being said I think the detail included in the writing and paired with the illustrations was well done. The details were necessary to the story and I felt this graphic novel had a great balance on what was included. I think my favorite part without spoiling anything was seeing things from Prince Po's point of view towards the end. I would highly recommend this book.

Super excited to see a graphic adaptation of one of my favorite YA novels growing up. Obviously the novel is going to provide more detail and background information, but I think Hinds has created a faithful adaptation that captures much of what I love about the original. I am impressed by how he depicted the fight scenes, and the dialogue and narration are easy to follow. The art is stunning all around and the use of cross stitch to depict Leck's backstory was unique. I easily devoured this graphic novel and would happily read more Graceling Realm adaptations!

This was a fresh take the YA classic. I adored the artstyle of this and felt that it captivated the world and characters with such vigorous force and whimsy. I hope the graphic novel series continues!

This graphic novel was visually stunning. I was amazed by the art style and detail throughout. It was also nice to go back and revisit the world of Graceling, which I first read when I was in middle school. That said, I thought that this book was weak in places. There were spots where there were details from the book missing that left an obvious hole. The art was beautiful though. I can't get over the art.

This graphic novel adaptation of Graceling was beautiful! It encompasses all of the elements of the well-loved story and brings them to life in a new way. The characters jumped off the page. The settings were so real, I wanted to go inside the book.

I loved reading this graphic novel and would not hesitate to recommend it to Teens browsing our YA Graphic novel collection. The artwork in this GN makes this story fun to read, and the action sequences are fast paced but still easy to follow.

I love this book so when I saw it was being turned into a graphic novel I was so excited! The illustrations are beautiful and it is so interesting to see the characters and story in this form.

I loved the artwork of this and it definitely makes me want to jump into the original book to see how it compares. The pacing was quick and flowed really well.

This graphic novel hit it out of the park for me. The combination of Kristin Cashore's phenomenal and Gareth Hinds' exquisite artwork is just incredible. Whoever put these two artists together is genius. The artwork complements the storyline perfectly and when there is a flashback or a tale told, Hinds changes his art style to note the difference. I am a fan of graphic novels, but this novel retelling in graphic format added something to the original that I haven't seen since Justin Reynold's "Long Way Down." Brilliantly executed.

A beautifully illustrated version of one of my favorite fantasy reads growing up! I loved Katsa and Po's world and adventure brought to life!

Some people are born with abilities. These people are marked with two different colored eyes and are called Gracelings. They also belong to the king of their country to be used as he sees fit. Katsa is a Graceling with the ability to kill with her bare hands. She has grudgingly done everything her king has ordered her to do until another Graceling shows her that there is another way. She defies her king and goes with Po to investigate what has become of a royal relative. Along the way, Katsa and Po discover an attraction to each other and that Katsa's ability may be more than what she has always believed. Together they rescue a princess and attempt to end a corrupt king's rule.

An appealing adaptation of the first of the Graceling books. The art is crisp and inviting and the graphic novel will find new readers for this the book.

An absolutely stunning adaptation of a beloved novel. YA novels as a whole are hard to adapt into graphic novels; they are a lot more atmospheric, there’s more world building, and more emotions written into the book that aren’t easy to translate into drawn pages. Somehow, this book succeeded.

Katsa is graced with the power of killing… or is she? After running in to Po, a prince of the island kingdom of Lienid, she has finally met her match. Katsa stands her ground and refuses to do her uncles dirty work with people in their kingdom. She flees with Po to Monsea to investigate rumors of strange happenings in the kingdom ruled by King Leck.

Overall, a wonderful adaptation of Kristin Cashore’s Graceling. This graphic novel has lovely illustrations and captures the essence of the novel. The characters looked slightly different than I had imagined, but to those who have not read the book would never know. The story is engaging and I think my students, grades 7/8 and up will love it!

Thank you Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group for this ARC. I will definitely get this for my library and look forward to a Fire adaptation, which is my favorite of the series.

A wonderful and faithful adaptation of one of my favorite YA fantasy stories of all time! My only complaint is that this could have used a few more pages to fully flesh out the relationships, romance, and worldbuilding that makes Graceling such an enduring and compelling fantasy story. The pared down story and less explicit romance (steamier scenes from the book do not appear in the graphic novel) make this appropriate and accessible for younger tween readers while still being a fun fantasy read for older teens and existing fans of the series.
