Venturing into the heart-pounding world of Britney King's "Savage Row" was like being thrust into a whirlwind of suspense, and the journey left me breathless until the very last page. The decision to immerse myself in this thrilling tale through audiobook proved to be a stroke of brilliance, enhancing the overall experience and turning the narrative into an adrenaline-fueled symphony.
Britney King, in her triumphant return to the realm of suspense, crafts a narrative that feels uncomfortably close to home. The synopsis hints at a story unfolding next door, but as the plot unravels, the proximity only intensifies the gripping nature of the tale.
At the heart of "Savage Row" is Jack Mooney, a career criminal nursing a decade-long vendetta against the jurors who incarcerated him. His fixation on the alluring Amy Stone propels the narrative into a psychological dance, with every move and motive shrouded in suspense. The moment Mooney is granted early release, the tension skyrockets, unveiling a meticulously planned campaign of terror that leaves the Stone family in the crosshairs.
The characters in this spine-chilling thriller are meticulously developed, each contributing to the escalating sense of unease. Amy Stone, a captivating blend of allure and vulnerability, becomes a focal point whose every decision resonates with suspense. Jack Mooney, the brooding antagonist, is painted with a depth that transforms him into a formidable force. The dynamic interplay between these characters creates a narrative tension that is as palpable as it is thrilling.
The plot itself is a rollercoaster ride through unpredictability, deftly navigating a landscape of mounting terror. King's narrative weaves a web of psychological intricacies, blurring the lines between victim and villain. The apparent powerlessness of the police to shield the Stone family adds an extra layer of urgency, compelling them to rely on their wits in a harrowing bid for survival.
While the pace is relentless and the twists are nothing short of exhilarating, there were moments when I wished for a bit more exploration of certain scenes. However, this minor desire for more depth did little to diminish the overall satisfaction derived from the gripping story.
In conclusion, "Savage Row" is a four-star thriller that delivers an electrifying narrative from start to finish. Britney King's storytelling prowess, coupled with the heightened experience of the audiobook, makes this a must-read for lovers of the genre. I wholeheartedly recommend this adrenaline-pumping tale, rich in psychological twists, to fellow readers seeking an enthralling escape.
I was able to listen to this book pretty quick, it was a short book and only took a little more than 5 hours. This book was enjoyable to listen to. I did feel like it missed some marks and lacked some important parts to be a really good thriller.
Pros
Fast paced: This book was very fast paced, which can also be a bad thing. I'm not sure if it was maybe a bit too fast paced, but it also made me rush through. I had no trouble listening to the audio and getting hold of the story and feeling immersed into it. This is definitely a book that one can easily read in one sitting on a rainy October afternoon!
Anxiety: This book really did have some creepy parts when it comes to stalking. Some of the things that happened were so scary and made me feel anxious and a bit scared as well. The way the author came up with these things, was really good.
Cons
Emotions: While the things that happend were really scary, I felt like the characters and narrator lacked emotion. I feel like the book could have been a bit longer if the author had taken the time to really describe the emotions that the characters feel. It felt like the book stayed a bit shallow and missed a layer of depth because of this.
Plot: I was not a fan of the double stalker plot that this book has and I find it to be not that believable at all.
Ending: Some things that happend in the final part of the book were completely unnecessary and were only added for shock value. I was also left with the feeling that some things didn't add up and so the ending left me unsatisfied.
Overall
Really weird how a book can have some really shining parts and also some parts that don't add up or were not that great at all. I feel like this book is really a 3 star book, but does need a lot of work to get even close to a 4 star rating. This is a nice, quick read for someone that wants to read a fast-paced stalker thriller.
thank you to net galley and OrangeSky audio for providing me an audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review. savage row had a very intriguing premise. the execution however wasn’t what i expected. it was very rushed and confusing at times, but still managed to hold my attention.
I wasn't able to get through the audiobook for this. I am going to try to read this one, hopefully it is better for me.
As far as an audiobook, this was really well done. I enjoyed the narrators voice as well as the performance.
The story, however is where it lacked. I didn't like that all of the thriller and stalking elements were off page. I really think we needed to have at least one more POV and it should have been one of the daughters. That would have made the story feel more well rounded. I also felt the back and forth between present and past to be confusing via audio. It needed to be better known when something was happening.
Overall: it was ok.
Sorry, but just "UGH"...
This story had so much potential, but was poorly structured with multiple villains. Additionally, the details of Amy and Greg's sex life was unnecessary and too disturbing. I stuck with it hoping the story would be resolved, but unfortunately I was left with more "huh?" than "a-ha!" moments.
Interesting mystery with hints of the main character’s past throughout the book. The ambience is pretty tense, giving you the sensation that something bad is happening before you understand the whole plot.
I had never read anything by this author, Britney King. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. This story has some twists and turns that I did not expect. The writing was very good and I really enjoyed it. The story kept me on edge, and I was able to listen to it in one day. I could not stop. The storyline was great. The narration was also good. I could picture the entire story as it was read. I highly recommend this book. It is a short, easy read and full of excitement!
What happens when the person you put in jail for rape while on jury duty gets out early on parole? What happens when that person has fixated on you the whole time he was in prison? What happens when they find you and know all about you and your family? Savage Row by Britney King is a psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes. I was spring cleaning and listened to it all in one day. The audiobook isn't very long, but it is very well done. The story is about Amy, a young mom and wife, with two daughters. While in college, she put a man in prison, along with eleven other jurors. The man is out now. And he is coming for her! Super intense. Good book. Fast moving. I really liked it! Thanks to #NetGalley for the chance to listen to it. All opinions are my own. #SavageRow #Bookstagram #all_the_pages
Savage Row is a very well paced psychological thriller. Every time I started this audio I wasn't ready to turn it off since it was moving along so quickly. You follow a family who is being taunted by a convict who has recently been released from prison. I think the author did a great job of putting you in that panic mindset as I felt like I was placed into the shoes of the family. This was my first book by Britney King and I would definitely read more of her work. The audiobook was well produced.
Savage Row: A Psychological Thriller by Britney King
Rating: 2.8/5 ⭐
Synopsis: Over a decade ago Amy served on a jury that put Jack Mooney behind bars. Now, Mooney has been released early from prison, and makes it a priority to get revenge on Amy through her family.
I have to admit I have not read a psychological thriller in some time. This book was intense. Aside from Mooney there are other characters in this novel that are extremely dark. This book will definitely keep you on your toes wondering, is Mooney really doing this, or it is someone else Amy's associated with? However, there were parts in the Epilogue that were rushed. Information is thrown at the reader without much background information. Listening to this I was like, "Oh this makes sense, but I wish there would've been more build up."
Overall, if you are a fan of thrillers I would definitely recommend reading or listening to Savage Row. It was nice listening to a thriller where the wife was not a suspect in a murder, and I think we need more thrillers like Britney King's Savage Row, specifically where women are not the primary suspects.
Unpopular review! Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one as much as I had hoped. I am a big thriller fan and this one just didnt do it for me.
I found the main character Amy Stone annoying and unrealistic. With everything going on I feel she would be a little more proactive. Secondly her husband drove me nuts, he didn't seem to care at all. I also disliked their relationship.
I enjoyed the audio narrative of this one however I felt I may have enjoyed it more if I read the physical book instead.
I enjoyed the short chapters but I felt they jumped around too much. However this may have been as a result of listening to the audio books.
I really liked the premise of this book, but unfortunately this one just fell flat for me
Will be included in the next review roundup of Wayward Magazine, but will not recieve a feature story or review. Gripping, tense, and moving -- takes an average plot and elevates it. Nothing you havent read before, but done better than its past itterations.
A story of hatred, revenge and terror. Its a suspenseful story with characters that drawn you in and make you feel the emotions they are experiencing. The narration brings out those feelings. You are living the same horror.
Thank you Britney King and the narrator Laura Jennings for this listen. And NetGalley for offering it!
***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****
Savage Row is what I'd term a slow burn psychological suspense that messes with your mind and has you questioning who to trust. Britney King writes a taunt story that'll keep listeners engaged and seeking more. Savage Row starts out with a pretty normal family. They're rushing about with two working parents and activities for the kids. Things start to go wrong slowly.
I found King has a way of making me question what I think or know. It isn't scary persay but it messes with your head with your psychi. King makes you look around your life and see things slightly different... like that overly friendly guy at the coffee shop that seems too interested in you or the new neighbor down the road that seems to be everywhere you are and slightly turning into you. Yeah, she makes you wonder if there's something more happening or if it's all in your head.
I enjoyed the narration by Laure Jennings. I'm a pretty avid audiobook listener and I'm positive I've never listened to this narrator before Savage Row. I thought she did well portraying an average woman under duress. She doesn't loose it or go off at all. Jennings portrayed a working class, average white woman flawlessly. She could be any woman out there... me or you, your coworker or child's teacher at school. I think that's what makes it soo good... Amy is just a regular woman and Jennings portrays the character very well.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
This book grabbed me from the very first page. Britney King wrote a fact paced psychological thriller that had me guessing the entire time. I especially liked the length of this book...not to long. The audiobook took about 5 hours to listen to, with fantastic narration.
This honestly just wasnt for me. I listened to this book like halfway through and was not a big fan whatsoever.
Unfortunately, this thriller fell flat for me. I was disappointed by the lack of plot twists - in the end, the same person you suspected all along was the one who was terrorizing this woman and her family.
I also think the author failed to provide enough about why she was the only member of the jury the Mooney targeted. I don't think Amy's allure for Mooney is ever actually communicated in the novel, despite the fact that is pointed to in the novel's description.
It could have been the narrator, but I couldn't connect with any of the characters, least of all the narrators. And I found the relationships between the characters stiff and unbelievable (Greg/Amy, Amy/Alex, Theo/rest of family).
This was a suspenseful thriller I had in audio I listened to from beginning to end while working to clean out my office and at times found myself stopped to listen because I was so intrigued. What would you do if someone you have sat on a jury and helped send to prison finds you when they are released and threatens you and your family? So many twists and turns I could not stop listening and even though this was my first foray with this author it will not be my last. Definitely a recommendation from me!
**Received this in audio form from NetGalley**
Creepy, dark, twisted psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Audiobook is wonderfully performed. Engaging and hard to pull away from. This story gripped me from start to finish. Unsettling in the best way
