Fiona everyone's favorite hippo though younger brother fritz may be giving her a run for her money. Helps a friend in this picture book that shows the importance of friends.
Wonderful book with beautiful pictures that delighted my daughter as we read about our favorite hippo.
Fiona the famous Hippo, has her own books and this one is all about helping a friend. When Fiona realizes that she has not heard her friend, Matilda the Kookaburra's laugh all day, she knows something must be making her sad. Matilda gets the other zoo animals together to ask them to help cheer her up. They tried all kinds of things to make her laugh, but nothing. Then they found a box that said "Lost & Found" full of things. They dressed up and laughed at themselves. They headed back over the Matilda and when she put on something from the box, she finally got her laugh back. This was a great story about friendship, caring, imagination and joy. We also talked a bit about animals, zoos, keeping away from wild animals etc. I also found a video made by the Cincinnati Zoo with one of their zookeepers reading the story and we listened to it as well. The noise of the kookaburra laugh at the end was great and the kids listened to it several times. The illustrations were wonderful. Lots of colour, action and emotion were portrayed in the humorous pictures. I recommend this book to families and schools to share about friendship and caring.
When Fiona discovers that her friend Matilda is feeling sad, she sets out on a mission to help Matilda find her laugh again. Fiona, with the help of all of her zoo friends, shows us all how to be a great friend. Children will love to listen to this story and then play dress up with all of their friends.
Who doesn't love Fiona? Anyone who had elementary age children during quarantine are probably familiar with her thanks to the Cincinnati Zoo and their awesome Facebook page! This book is a cute story about Fiona and her friends at the zoo and a bird who lost her laugh. The zoo crew works hard to help their friend feel less glum. A great story for these trying times. The illustrations are awesome and the story is cute!
Fiona books do not disappoint. She is worried about her friend Matilda who has not laughed all day and seems really sad. She is going to help Matilda find her laugh again. When a reader picks up a Fiona book they know they are going to get a happy story with a light lesson that kids will treasure.
I absolutely ADORED this book! Kids will love the colorful illustrations and the funny, sweet story. Fiona Helps a Friend is about how Fiona the hippo wants to help cheer up her friend, Matilda. In the story, Fiona rallies together the other animals and tries to find a way to make Matilda laugh. As a kindergarten teacher, I'm always looking for books that teach kindness and how to help others. I love how this book models how we can help others when they are feeling sad, especially in a year where children are feeling all sorts of emotions.
Fiona is trying to help her friend the kookaburra to find his laugh again. Together with her other friends from the zoo, they try everything they can think of to help cheer their friend. I was disappointed with the format of this book. I thought it was going to be designed with the real-life images of Fiona, like depicted on the cover. Instead, all of the book is cartoon-illustrated.
Fiona is so precious and her "I've got this" attitude gives a sense of determination to get escapades. This sweet little book made my kiddo laugh and she loved the animals. A keeper for sure!
5☆ A Very Sweet Book about Friendships and Looking after each other.
Fiona Helps a Friend is a story all about working together to cheer a friend up when they become sad.
Fiona and all her friends at the Zoo haven't heard Matilda the Kookaburra laugh all day and they start to become concerned.
So they decide that the best thing is to try and cheer up Matilda by making her laugh. But unfortunately Matilda is just too sad. They try so hard, making funny faces, doing there best moves but nothing works.
Then something happens and they discover a box of lost and found!
Could this be the answer, and the way to cheer Matilda up?
I guess you will have to read it, to find out...but be warned it will give you the giggles!
I loved this sweet book. The illustrations are superb and really bring the story to life. Especially seeing some of the zoo animals antics.
It will definitely get children giggling out loud!
I loved the message behind the story.... to look after each other, be kind, work together, and it's ok to feel sad sometimes.
What better way to get the message across, than with the most adorable animals, that are cheeky, kind and full of love.
I enjoyed this sweet story of Fiona and a group of friends trying to cheer their sad friend up.
The writing style was pleasing and the illustrations were visually stimulating and a little unusual, but very fun.
Many thanks to the author and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Fiona Helps a Friend is a sweet story, but you will buy this book for the illustrations. Honestly, I would have like the characters to find out what was wrong with their friend as well as trying to cheer her up, but I can overlook that little detail for the way the illustrations draw you in. The attention to detail is extraordinary. Fiona is going to be a favorite in our home for sure!
The publisher made a copy of this book available for review via Netgalley. This is my honest opinion.
As a fan of the real Fiona and her books, I have to say that this latest one doesn't disappoint. It shows her and her friends getting together to help cheer up a sad friend. It has a good message and fun illustrations. I highly recommend it along with the other books, as well as looking into her story if you haven't before.
Such a sweet tale. I love these types of books! Great message of inclusion and thinking of others - the types of books I hope my kiddos listen closely to. Incredibly detailed illustrations, too!
This is an extremely cute addition to Fiona's adventures and all the animals playing dress-up cracked me up.
Fiona Helps a Friend is about Fiona, a young hippo, that wants to help her friend the Kookaburra, find her laugh again. Fiona and friends realized that they had not heard their friend Matilda, the Kookaburra, laugh all day. When they went to find Matilda and see how she was, she appeared to be sad and would not laugh. Fiona and friends then find a box of lost zoo items, and play dress up, resulting in silliness that helps Matilda find her laugh again.
This book exemplifies friendship, and how when one of us is sad, others need to rally around them and cheer them up. I loved the themes in this book and how all the animals at the zoo worked toward the common goal of making Matilda feel better, and all of them, in the end, laughed and bonded together. It is a good message for children, and one I would be happy to read to my child.
I also loved the illustrations, and how well the art went with the message of the story.
Thank you to the author/illustrator, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Just like Fiona the Wonder Hippo herself, this was a cute and warmhearted story. Children will love the colorful illustrations and playful antics of the zoo's animals. Parents will love the message of friendship and the power of laughter as Fiona, an adorable hippo, and her zoo friends try to find their friend Matilda's laughter again. This simple but powerful message will be enjoyed by parents and kids alike.
This story was very sweet, but the real star was the illustrations. Holy cow! They were realistic, but cartoon-ish and fun at the same time! The little details were perfect! My middle boy, age 4, would absolutely love this book! I bet he would spend quite a long time looking through all of the pictures.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Fiona and her friends try to cheer up their friend Matilda. Cute book especially for all those who love hippo, Fiona.
