I love Stephanie’s keto books so when I saw she has a 5-ingredients cookbook, I was super excited. So many easy recipes in here that anyone can do. And most of the ingredients I had on hand already.
As with her other cookbooks, Stephanie Laska again provides simple, easy recipes to keep you going on the KETO diet. I look forward to trying all of these recipes! Thank you NetGalley and Adams Media for an ARC of this cookbook in exchange for my honest review!
I have been toying around with the idea of eating keto-style for a while now, but haven’t been able to wrap my mind about the complexity of figuring out all of the math… That being said, THIS cookbook has changed my thinking entirely! It now seems simple and doable. I will definitely use many of the recipes included in this book and I’m looking forward to learning more from their other cookbooks as well.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Found it quite interesting, some recipes I don't care about but others seem quite delicious and had me planning to make them. The book has some introduction about the keto diet (including a safe list of foods) and a glossary of images to describe each recipe. Each recipe has its nutritional value, which is great, but not all of them have pictures, which I would have preferred. Some recipes do use more than five ingredients, an example can be a cupcake, which is divided by cake (about 5 ingredients) and frosting (about 5 ingredients) but that's understandable. All in all, I think it is a good cookbook to add to the collection, doesn't matter if you follow the keto diet or not.
I can't even! (stay out of the kitchen since receiving this cookbook!) Seriously, I've had this book only 3 days and I've made 6 recipes! First, let me say that I own a plethora of cookbooks, some keto, and some not. I have FINALLY found a cookbook that is written in a real world, conversational, and humorous style, as if two friends were preparing a meal together. Also, I REALLY wish that I had found this book when I began my keto journey, when the keto lifestyle appeared so restrictive and expensive, and trudging through all of the (conflicting) information was so very stressful. Stephanie's no-nonsense approach to the ketogenic way of eating is refreshing!
I absolutely love that each recipe includes the serving size and the NET carbs per serving, as well as grams of fat, and protein for macro tracking. When applicable, the author even includes 'recommended toppings' and other things after the recipe, including some brand names with their net carb counts!! So much of the work and headache of daily tracking is done for the reader! And who can't appreciate the cute recipe names like 'Bamboozling Bacon Brussel's Sprouts' and 'Dancing Drunken Chicken!'
Thus far I have made the Punk Peanut Butter Chaffles (hello, I'm hooked!), Zoomer's Zucchini Salad (so refreshing!), Downpour Parmesan Dressing (I won't use store-bought again!), Jalapeño Wispy Chips (be still my beating heart!), Ridiculous Radish Chips (I'm a convert!) and the 'Orange Crush Chicken (the author crushed it with this one!). I am excited to try more!
In addition to the recipes, the tidbits of advice for the individual recipes and cooking in general, measurement charts, recommended kitchen tools, shopping lists, and exercise tips, are so very useful. Not including pantry staples, the recipes are truly 5 ingredients or less! I just love the convenient icons used throughout the recipes, "No Cook," "I'm Hangry," "Less Mess," "Fancy Enough for Guests," and more.
I highly recommend this cookbook, whether you follow the keto lifestyle or not! And most especially if you ARE new to the keto lifestyle!
Thank you Stephanie Laska, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for the free reader's copy.
Not a whole lot I can say about this cookbook. It is filled with Keto diet recipes that not only the lazy cook, but those of us who don't understand the whole Keto thing can make.
If your version of the keto diet includes a Diet Coke, low-carb beer, or the occasional chocolate-covered protein bar, The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO Cookbook is your roadmap for results. Unfortunately for me, I suppose, Diet Coke, Low-carb beer (Something I didn't even know existed) and chocolate-covered protein bars is not what I would normally consume.
The meals looked ok, easy to make, and for the most part, were semi-homemade, and not expensive or any more of a fad than the Keto diet itself. For me, I think this is a fad I can skip.
All I can say is it is what it claims to be; a Keto cookbook for those too lazy to find out how Keto works.
I received this Arc from Adams Media and @Netgalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion
I am a massive fan of the KETO way of live, having lost nearly 2 stone whilst being on it. Once you get you head around the fact that things you believe aren't good for you like butter, cheese and oils can be in the right quantities. Not only did this help me loose weight but it also massively helped my gut health and stopped bloating.
This is a great addition to the books already out there, and explains in details the groups of foods you should have together and in what ratio. Also as most of the recipes only use 5 ingredients or less this is great for people with busy lives who don't have time to sit and batch cook in advance and most of the stuff I already having in my cupboard. I love the how each one is broken down simply and your Net carbs and other nutritional information is there in black and white, makes things so much easier for people trying to keep track. There are some lovely recipes and so helpful that they have pictures next to them so you can see what you are making. I have already tried a few of them and I have to say the 'Simple Salami Skewers' have already become a favourite of mine and they are so easy to make. Recipes like these make keto a joy rather than a job.
Thank you for NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.
I'm easily intimidated when it comes to cooking, so when I saw this title and it's "5 Ingredient" tag line I was in. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. Several recipes outside of the breakfast section called for essentially making waffles which seems unconventional, but not in a good way. A lot of these recipes definitely call for more than 5 ingredients but the authors seem to be desperate to stretch the definition of 5 in order to fit under meet the 100 recipe tag line they also boast. On the flip side of stretching the limit, they legitimately included a recipe for broccoli that's just broccoli with salt and coconut oil-- they might as well have done this for every vegetable to meet their 100 recipe and 5 ingredient or less quota. This book isn't awful and I liked some of the fun combinations but overall this missed the mark for me and I would add it to my cookbook collection
Easy-to-make dishes with easy-to-understand recipes for those looking to dip their toe into the ketogenic lifestyle.
There are some really great recipes in this book. The Chaffles!!
I love the recipe icons and how easy it is to find a recipe you want to make based on your laziness factor. Don't want to cook, look for recipes with the No Cook symbol. You went to the gym and you feel like you are starving, look for meals with the I'm Hangry symbol. You can even search for recipes based on the number of carbs left in your daily allotment! The net carbs are listed in BIG, BOLD, writing, per serving, on each recipe page.
I won't make any of the recipes with almond flour because of my allergy and my excessive laziness (don't want to math out a substitute flour). I wish that Keto recipe books would include a substitute flour to make the recipe nut-free (this is a wish I have with every Keto recipe book I have read) in the tips section, i.e. for nut-free use (blank) amount of (blank) flour, please note this substitution increases the net carbs to (blank) per serving.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Great resource especially for someone new to Keto. So much more than just recipes, and the recipes were great too.
Off the bat, I appreciated the quick guide on the index! Next to each recipe, you find symbols that let you know if the recipe is no-cook, less mess, for picky eaters, when you're starving, for when you want to serve guests or have a meatless meal.
I loved the language used in this book; the authors delivered Dirty Keto 101 lessons with upbeat, friendly language and used graphics as a visual reminder. The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO 5-Ingredient Cookbook is exceptionally user-friendly.
The recipes ARE easy to follow and contain a quick practical guide to the nutritional info, net carbs, what pantry staples you'd use (complete list suggested earlier in the book), and tips and tricks to make cooking the recipe easy! I also loved how you find recipes for every meal of the day!
Disclaimer: I first read it as an ARC. In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to Stephanie Laska, William Laska, Adams Media, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO 5-Ingredient Cookbook.
I received The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO 5-Ingredient Cookbook as part of a NetGalley giveaway.
The keto diet is one of the hot trends in dieting right now, and The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO 5-Ingredient Cookbook leans into simplicity, emphasizing few ingredients while still remaining to the tenets of the diet.
Since I don't subscribe to a keto diet, I appreciate that they didn't try to proselytize or convert me to that lifestyle; it was more of an attitude of "here are the guidelines" without a lot of editorializing. There are several ingredients that will probably seem fairly obscure and/or expensive, however, if you're not following Keto, things like xanthan gum and acai powder. I'll say that, as the title suggests, the recipes are *very* simple, almost to the point of me wondering how much flavor a lot of these dishes have, but for people with less adventurous palates or limited resources, it may be just what you're looking for. The layout also looks a bit crowded--as I understand it, a lot of what's there is "code" for those who do follow the diet, but for an outsider it gives the impression of being cluttered. Still, there's a lot here for cooks looking for simplicity.
Honestly, the cover explains it all. These are easy and quick and, of course, only having 5 ingredients is amazing. The thing I like the most is that the recipes are normal. So many recipe books seem to have these fancy ingredients that I would never use and don’t want to buy or find.
Great resource for anyone doing the not strict keto life!
There was so much keto-y (sure, that's a word) goodness in this book I don't even know where to start! Every picture was drool-worthy! If I * absolutely * had to narrow it down though, I suppose the ones I'm most exited to try first are the "Punk Peanut Butter Chaffle", "Pickle-Tickled Ranch Dressing", "Sick Day Saltines" (I've never seen a keto saltine recipe and I have been doing keto for ages!), and the "Canoodling Crab Rangoons". Are you hungry just reading those recipe names?? Cuz I sure am.
Loved the tone of the writers in this reference book.! They explained what keto is and how it can help many of us in way that was not boring. The explanations were not just info-dumping, but it was broken it down in a reader friendly manner. I like the idea of the 5 ingredient meals, but variety of recipes was lacking for me. But overall, it is an excellent book for those who are barely starting on their keto journey. Thank you Netgalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the first Dirty, Lazy, Keto book. I don't know what it was about this one, but most of the recipes just didn't appeal to me personally. I still think it is a great cookbook and a great way to make sure you stay within in the Dirty Keto guidelines for people who do enjoy these recipes. I think it just boiled down to personal tastes not being satisfied for me. I liked that the author explained the different "types" of keto because I think that confuses a lot of people who follow this lifestyle, especially in the beginning.
This is a really great collection of advice and recipes. It would be perfect for anyone who is just starting on a keto or low carb journey. There's is lots of inspiration and meal ideas in these pages.
Another amazing cookbook from The Laska's!! I really enjoy the way they break the keto diet down to manageable "rules." The recipes are easy to make and utilize easily accessible ingredients.
This was perfect and just what I needed to kick start my re-dedication to my Keto lifestyle. Helpful tips and tricks are so much appreciated!
