Stephanie Baudet’s adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles is a fantastic introduction to Sherlock Holmes for younger readers. It keeps all the intrigue, mystery, and suspense of the original story but simplifies the language, making it easier for kids to follow.

The plot is gripping—creepy moors, a mysterious curse, and a terrifying hound—perfect for keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Holmes and Watson’s clever detective work is just as entertaining in this version, and the shorter chapters make it great for reading aloud or tackling in small chunks.

If you’re looking for a thrilling mystery that’s accessible for kids while still capturing the brilliance of Sherlock Holmes, this adaptation is a winner!

🐺 This is a middle grade adaptation of the classic Sherlock Holmes story and includes illustrations.

🐺 I have reviewed children’s adaptations of Holmes stories before, and my response to this book is very similar. I am very familiar with the entire Sherlock oeuvre. I’ve read every novel and every short story, some more than once. While I appreciate that these stories are being introduced to young readers, I do not generally enjoy these adaptations myself. Hound is an intricate novel with fascinating gothic nuance and genuinely frightening scenes. But those types of things aren’t necessarily appropriate for a young reader, so I feel like what makes the original book great gets too watered down.

🐺 That said, young readers won’t notice any of that because they won’t know what they are missing. This adaptation is done very well for the intended age group – I just wanted more because I know there *IS* more. I truly do appreciate that these adaptations exist, and hopefully children will love this adaptation enough to read the full novel when they are older.

🐺 This book is 120 pages and written for ages 7 to 11. It is part of the Sweet Cherry Easy Classics series adapting many Sherlock Holmes novels and stories as well as other classic books.

Thank you @NetGalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for an eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I have really enjoyed the books in this series and I delight in picking up a new book when it is released.

I thought that this was a great retelling of The Hound of the Baskervilles and a great introduction to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson for younger readers too.

The book was easy to follow and I really liked the illustrations that were added to the book to bring the story to life too. The book was well written and really enjoyable for me as an adult too, a great overview.

It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended and a great addition to the Easy Classics series!

Such a great introduction to a literary classic. This adaption of The Hound of the Baskervilles is written in a manner younger readers will find, not just approachable, but intelligent. The story is fast paced and keeps you totally engaged. Kids will not only fall in love with Sherlock Holmes, but reading as well. I look forward to seeing more titles from this author.

This story has been adapted for younger readers but it's still scary. One man dead and another being set up for murder. Sherlock sends Watson with the next victim...
Sweet Cherry Publishing and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published on June 10th.

No one is sure if the dog is real or just superstition. Watson pays close attention to everyone Henry meets and talks to. He sees nothing suspicious but he does notice that the escaped convict is living on the moor. He sees another man, too, so he goes to check it out.

To his surprise, it's Holmes. Then they find a dead body and think it's Henry's but, while it's his clothes, it's the convict. They rush to find Henry but they are interrupted by a hound...

There's a history behind the facts that explains the motive and more.

It's a good read but a bit scary.

An all time classic! I love that this has been adapted for children, so they can experience these worlds also! There's not much more to say from an all time classic that makes you want to keep coming back to see more findings!

A great introduction to classic literature written in a manner younger readers will find accessible. With explanations of some of the more archaic ideas and more modern language, children can get an idea of the story before accessing the original text. Accompanied by simple images, the carefully chosen vocabulary makes this retelling a great read.

This book was such a fun little adventure. I have to say I really enjoyed this story and the illustrations the book had to offer with the story. It gave it a nice little break up and some substance to the story. It made you feel more involved in the solving of the crime. I have heard this story before on the TV series and I gotta say this version is nicely done. For a book that isn't long with just over 300 pages it gives just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. This to me is a great way to break in a say your Adult reader into mystery. It definitely isn't over dramatic or drawn out to were the reader will get lost, bored or overwhelmed. I throughly e joyed this and hope to actually read more of these great little stories by this Author. So thank you #netgally #StephanieBaudet #ArthurConanDoyle #AriannaBellucci #TheHoundofBaskervilles #SherlockHolmes

I am, like my dad, a Sherlock fan. I wished I had some of his books I could have read as a child. This is a great adaptation suitable for the younger mystery buffs. The illustrations make the book more interesting for children.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of my favourite Sherlock Holmes stories and it is also one of the first ones I read. I remember having quite a few sleepless nights after reading it because of the terrible hound.

Stephanie Baudet has reimagined the story for children and it works. She has had to sacrifice a little (okay, quite a lot) of the creepy atmosphere but the essence of the story is there. It is suitable for 6-7 year olds to give them an idea of the story in easy words without scaring them.

I wish this book had come out when I was a kid too.

The illustrations are good and are bound to draw a kiddie reader in.

5 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for the ARC.

A simplified version of Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of Baskerville by Arthur Conan Doyle.
I haven't read any book of Sherlock Holmes yet so I don't know how the actual books are but Stephanie Baudet did an amazing job in simplifying the story.
It can easily be read by young audience as the writing is very simple yet the essence of the story remains.
The illustrations add to the beauty of the book.
I'm very happy that I got to read this amazing version of the book.
Thank you Sweet Cherry Publishing for providing such amazing books.

Does what it says on the tin. A simplified version of the original story of Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle which makes it accessible for a much larger audience.
Sherlock must solve the mystery of the Hound of the Baskervilles before it claims any more lives, and must put his own life at risk to do so.
A great modification to a classic, that will be fantastic to use in class.

Classic tale of Sherlocks homes : The Hound of the Baskerville, written so younger kids can read and enjoy. Done in 16 fast paced chapters, that have you trying to solve the mystery before Sherlock Holmes does. This book is the perfect introduction to Sherlock Holmes classics to young readers and get them not only interested in reading but fall in love with Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and solving mysteries with them. I hope this author does more Sherlock Holmes titles adapted for children, she did a wonderful job.

“I shall now reveal the truth of the legend behind the hound of the Baskervilles … No Baskerville should ever cross the moor at night.” - Sir Charles Baskerville.

My thanks to Sweet Cherry Publishing for a digital review copy via NetGalley of ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles’ by Arthur Conan Doyle and adapted by Stephanie Baudet. It is illustrated by Arianna Bellucci.

This is part of Sweet Cherry Publishing’s ‘The Sherlock Holmes Children’s Collection: Creatures, Codes and Curious Cases’. There are ten books in the collection, each one an illustrated adaptation of a classic Sherlock Holmes mystery. It is intended for readers aged 7-11, though suitable for readers of all ages.

I felt that Stephanie Baudet did a wonderful job of simplifying the story, well retaining its essence. The illustrations were great fun and perfectly complemented the text.

The book also includes a QR code that links to a free audiobook download, which allows the reader to listen while reading. I feel that this can build confidence.

This is a book and series that I am certain will be of interest to parents, educators, and librarians.

Do you want to introduce your kids to classics? Sweet Cherry Publishing has adapted, illustrated classics that are easy to read.

I recently read two books, The Hound of Baskervilles and Anna Karenina. The Hound of Baskervilles is my favorite and I am reading Anna Karenina for the first time. The Hound of Baskervilles felt a little bit fast-paced but sufficient in plot details. Sweet Cherry Publishing has a lot of other classics and can be a starting point for reading famous works from the past.

Thank you to @netgalley and @sweetcherrypublishing for an ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this fresh look at a classic tale, with a lot of the padding stripped out to the essential story, aimed at much younger readers, but still with the spooky edge of the original. Some great illustrations too - well worth a look

I love re-tellings of classic tales! I can't get enough of them. It's fun to dip into a different iteration of an old story that lots of people are aware of. A children's book take on one of my favourite literary detectives is just one way to make me smile.

This is a bit of a middle grade read of sorts for eager readers. This classic tale has great pictures and brings The Hound of Baskervilles to life. There are little tabs with definitions and descriptions of words the reader might not be aware of to help them get a splash of the original content. There's also some little illustrations in the book that makes it have a bit of personality.

Overall, this simplified version of the classic tale is a smash! I really thought it was fun and it's a great way to introduce yourself to Sherlock Holmes.

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

A perfect, age-appropriate way for kids to engage with a classic! Fun, accessible, engaging, and true to the original. I appreciated the illustrations and the side-note explanations that helped kids understand the more-difficult or historical terminology. A great bedtime read with my older-elementary kids. 5 stars!
