Magnetic Medic tells the story of Aidy and Ryder. Aidy has recently split up with her fiance and has returned home to her brothers, pregnant. Ryder is an old friend of the family and while he hasn't seen Aidy since they were both children, he feels an instant connection with her. After losing his mother and younger sister in childbirth, Ryder has always shunned the idea of having children and avoids pregnancy and birth, despite being a doctor. He can't stay away from Aidy though and he finds himself questioning what he really wants.
I enjoyed this romance. I did think that things moved a little quickly or rather seemed to come from nowhere, one minute they're lusting after one another from afar and the next they have become quite serious. It worked fairly well.
As often happens in books and films, the birth is quite dramatic. Fortunately, Dr Ryder is on hand, along with a midwife who just happens to be there (although she doesn't really assist in the birth, I have no idea why).
I enjoyed this read and I'd certainly be keen to read more from this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Although I hadn't read anything of Alexa Padgett, the blurb got me intrigued. Because, come on, which woman doesn't melt at a hot guy snuggling a puppy or a baby? So I requested the arc at Netgalley and I dove right in. Addy is a tough chick, who is determined to finish her degree, start a new job and move, al before she gives birth to her baby. And she will raise her daughter on her own, since her lousy ex has left her as soon as the pregnancy test showed two stripes.
So, definitely a tough chick in my book. And then there is her hot neighbor Ryder who turns out to be her older brother's best childhood friend.
Ryder has had a hard childhood, after his mother and sister died. His father then walked out on him and he ended up in foster care. Meaning that Ryder has some serious commitment issues.
But he is always willing to help out. Especially his cute neighbor, and no longer little sister, Addy. While the hormones rage, Addy and Ryder became close friends. And maybe even more, although both don't want to acknowledge it. Throw in a puppy in the mix two meddling big brothers and a jealous ex and you have a perfect recipe for a great read. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I started off really enjoying this, excited for the steamy romance between Aidy and Ryder, but things never really took off for me unfortunately.
Aidy felt very naive to me which took away from the story, at least thankfully Ryder wasn't an over the top possessive person like I often see in these sorts of novels.
The overall idea was great, Aidy falling for her neighbour but also her brothers friend, but I think the execution lacked in many areas and things felt forced and off. There were many scenes throughout that I found myself cringing at and not swooning over.
I did like the development of their relationship and how respectful Ryder was throughout, that was really nice and my favourite part.
It's a solid read, but just a 3/5 for me.
Emotionally charged yet sweet and tender romance
Aidy is back in her home town, working at the family firm, several months pregnant with an ex-fiancé who fled when hearing the news. She's still got some unresolved issues to work through with her two older brothers as well as developing feelings for the pediatrician neighbor who's also a family friend from her childhood. She's got a lot to prove, to herself and to her brothers, and to her ex as well.
Ryder is wrestling with his own demons as well. He's lost so much of his family and is still struggling to figure out how to move on. Despite the "cocky hero" label for this book, he's not at all cocky or arrogant, just a strong, wonderful man who is determined to work through his own problems so he can be the man Aidy needs him to be.
Their journey to their sublime HEA is filled with highs and lows, and I especially appreciated the warts-and-all look at Aidy's first days of motherhood. I love the emotional depth shown with all the characters, and I'm looking forward to reading more about the fascinating Wright family. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed this book. It stars pregnant mom, Addy and her new neighbor and childhood family friend Ryder.
Addy is pregnant with her ex, Jeff's baby. When she told him she was pregnant she found out he was a cheater and he also dumped her and the baby in a terrible letter. So she came home, went to work at the family architecture firm and is getting her master degree. She moves into her own place and is getting ready for her baby when she meets her new neighbor, Ryder.
Ryder is a Pedetrician and while he loves kids, has no plans to have children, in fact he is dating a woman in the city who has no plans to have children. He is good friends with Simon and Bridget (the connection to the Vi Keeland Cocky Books). He knew Addy when he was besties with her brothers until he was 9. He lost his parents, ended up in foster care until his aunt came to take custody of him. Now many years later, he meets Addy and her brothers again and they ask him to watch out for her.
There is a big attraction but there is also a small love triangle for a lot of the book. Its not very intense as we only see the woman Ryder is dating a few times in the book. But he becomes Addy's friend and she really can use one. Though she makes friends very easy. I really loved Addy a lot. She is one tough cookie and she loves unconditionally. She also works hard but also makes time for her friends and family. She also cannot wait to meet her daughter.
Ryder I am not sure how I felt about. Part of the book he is dating Margo and while he doesn't cheat per se, his thoughts and feelings do. And many times he seemed to almost be ready to dump Margo he keeps going until Margo gets fed up with his behavior and she ends up insulting Bridget and only then does he cut her loose.
My second issue with him was when the ex comes back, Jeff, he seems to disapear on Addy. This guy cheated on her, didn't want the child and he kinda hands her over to him. I wanted him to fight for her and he is just very passive about it all.
I did enjoy this book and largely it was because Addy is so awesome and I adored her two brothers. I would love to read more about the brothers.
Magnetic Medic by Alexa Padgett a five-star read that will give you palpitations. This is the first story in the Wright family series, and my first by this author, but do you know what I really hope its not my last as I so enjoyed the story and the writing, the characters are all so nice and a little crazy, but that just makes you love the so much more. Aidy will sweep you up in her story and will make you fall in love with her as you read. This is not a story to be missed.
4 Stars for this cute romance!
This is the first book that I have read by this author ... and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed it. Aidy and Ryder are so cute together and I just loved them. I couldn't help but root for them throughout the whole book. Aidy tried to be so strong and get her life together after her boyfriend dumped her when she told him she was pregnant. Even though Ryder didn't want to get married and have a family, he had all the qualities of being a great husband and father. He even chose to be a pediatrician as a career. He just had to get over the fear of being left. There were lots of funny moments between Aidy getting a puppy and then the trials of being a new mother. This is a great start to a new series and I can't wait to read about Aidy's brothers.
I received an early copy courtesy of Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Meh, this one wasn’t for me. I found it to be repetitive, predictable and boring. A bit too sweet and bland for my taste.
Great book! Oh man, so many feels with this book! I loved this storyline. I couldn’t put Aidy & Ryder’s book down. I’m looking forward to more of this series!!!
Good book!! I've read almost all in this cocky spin off series and this one is just as good! This book is hot it has some heartache and heartbreak, some suspense, action, drama and like I said it was hot! Lol I definitely recommend reading this book and the series! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
3.5 Stars
I’m honestly a little disappointed with this one. I had such high hopes. And for me, it was just an okay story. The concept of the story was great and I love this entire book world.
This story starts off strong with her coming home after her boyfriend leaves her AFTER finding out she’s pregnant. On the same day. What a jerk!
Then she sees him across the hall...
They start... something. Maybe a relationship.
But then here come the baby daddy and Ryder backs off. *sigh*
A beautiful, sensitive romance of two people who may have found each other at just the right time. After being dumped by the father of unborn child, Aidy Wright returns to her hometown to her family and the family firm. This New Aidy is assertive, organized, ready to be an asset to the firm, finish her thesis for her master’s degree and be a great mother. Pediatrician Ryder Mackay sees Aidy for the first time in years when she moves into the apartment across the hall. He was friends with her brothers years ago, but when his father left after his mother died, he went to live with his aunt. He is immediately attracted to Aidy, but only plans to help her through her pregnancy…as a friend. What will happen when his attraction becomes something more than friendship? When the father of her child returns, how will they both deal with this interruption into the blended life they were creating? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Alexa Padgett is a new to me author, after reading the blurb for Magnetic Medic, I just had to read it. Aidy is single and pregnant. She returns home with her her tail between her legs and takes her rightful place at her family’s architectural firm. Ryder is a complicated man. His childhood was not easy and because of it, he has become a pediatrician . Ryder and Aidy are neighbors and he is her brother’s long lost childhood best friend. The sparks fly when they start spending time together. Neither is looking for a relationship but both are fighting their growing feelings for the other. Not gonna lie, there were moments where ai wanted to reach into my kindle and slap both of them upside the head, hard. Their road to happily ever after was long and painful (even though it technically was only a handful of months..... This book will take you a roller coaster ride from start to finish, several times and you will find yourself loving and hating it in equal measure. TBR Magnetic Medic and Enjoy.
My first by this author and my first of this collective. The blurb fascinated me but you had me at the cover!
What did I like? This was such a sweet romance and I really enjoyed it. Aidy returns to her roots with a baby bump to lick her wounds while finishing her thesis. She was such a strong yet nice main character. She reacquainted herself with a childhood boy who is now a doctor. Ryder has his own demons to face and they make quite the pair. It’s a nice little HEA!
Would I recommend or buy? I read a variety but it’s always nice to slow down and read a cute romance. This would make a great beach or vacation read! It tantalizes just enough to keep you going! Four stars. Very enjoyable!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!
