This was a really sweet book. A love story of two older adults, Waste Not, Want Not in Applewell tells the story of George and Nessa. George is a loner, and a hoarder. Nessa is his new neighbour, and is a kind, outgoing person. Told in alternating chapters by George and Nessa, the relationship develops with humour and empathy.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. What a lovely read this was, made me smile. Great storyline, great characters, really liked it.
It took quite a few chapters for me to actually get into this book properly but once I had I found I really enjoyed it
Loved the characters and the setting of applewell where we follow the story of George who is a secret horder or at least he thinks his hording is a secret and his new neighbour Nessa who has returned to her native Wales and how they eventually become friends and then a couple, mix in the meddling elderly Mahri who is an absolute delight, then you have an unlikely trio who become the best of friends and overcome all the obstacles they face
Wonderfully written
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
George Nightingale is a hoarder with a house full of junk. For years he’s kept it a secret, rarely leaving his house and keeping social interactions to a minimum, but his carefully balanced system is now under threat…
Nessa has moved to rural Applewell, and can’t wait to settle in.
She find everyone she meets very friendly, everyone except her neighbour George. He wants nothing to do with her and wants her to leave him alone.
Message, who likes a challenge, is thinking she can make George change his mind.
The past has taught George not to trust anyone but it seems Nessa is adamant and continues to reach out to him.
Will George, have a change of heart and take the hand of his neighbours help.
My first book by Lilac Mills but certainly won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed it
Nessa who is an outgoing retired nurse who doesn't like clutter moves into the cottage next to George's bungalow who is a reclusive shy hoarder.
George is determined to ignore Nessa in case she finds out about his hoarding and tells the whole village, Nessa is determined to get to know George and bring him out of his shell. A lovely feel good story
This is my first book by Lilac but certainly wont be my last, I thoroughly enjoyed it
I always enjoy Lilacs books so was excited to receive this copy. It tells the story of George and Nessa who are total opposites of each other, one a neat freak and one the polar opposite. As the story develops and their friendship develops you start to see how change is warranted and needed. Well written and well described.
Another great read, a predictable ending but one that the reader welcomed
I received an advance copy of, Waste Not, Want Not in Applewell, by Lilac Mills. This is a cute story about George, who is not living his best life and his new neighbor Nessa. The characters were well drawn out, and the plot was good.
I received this book for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
Facebook was also surprising with how much I enjoyed it the setting was perfect in the characters are fun and lively and just a little bit quirky.
Recently retired Nessa moves to Applewell to a beautiful cottage in the village, wanting to makes friends she bakes her new neighbours cakes.
All the locals are friendly and soon makes friends apart from next door neighbour George, who is a little strange to say the least.
Nessa makes it her mission to befriend George, behind closed doors he is a secret horder.
Oh my god I wanted to shake George I wanted to go round and tidy up and yet I felt sadness that people do actually live like that
I loved the bond between Nessa and Mahri a true friendship no matter the ages.
I also like the way the story was told with each chapter told by Nessa and George.
This was really enjoyable and so looking foward to my next visit to Applewell.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nessa is George's mew neighbour. He doesn't want anyone living nearby, as he fear they will find out his secret - that he is a hoarder. he doesn't know that the village realised this years ago.
As Nessa pushes her way in to his life and they start to spend time together will he be able to share his secret with her?
A great read, and I liked how it is told from both of their points of view.
