The Third Grave by Lisa Jackson is the fourth entry into the Nikki Gillette series. As much as I love
Lisa Jackson and a good mystery that takes place in Savannah - I've found that I really have a hard time
liking Nikki and almost didn't finish because for some reason she irritates me, sorry. Stuck it out though
and did enjoy the ending. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity.
THE THIRD GRAVE is the newest entry in Lisa Jackson’s ‘Savannah’ series. I have always enjoyed Lisa Jackson’s work and look forward to each new book. This was no exception. It was great to see Nikki and her husband, Reed again. When two skeletons are found in an abandoned house, where is the third? Three girls went missing years ago. This story introduces many characters from the past and present, blending them together to one explosive ending. Good book, but definitely not a standalone read. There are ongoing threads, subplots, and characters from previous books that are not well explained to new readers.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Two young girls bodies were discovered in a mansion after a storm passed. Detective Reed is investigating and trying to figure out what happened to the girls twenty years ago. This book kept me guessing until the very end.
I love curling up with a Lisa Jackson book! I'm rarely if ever disappointed and know to set aside a few hours to enjoy it!
The Third Grave brings back some beloved characters from earlier books and gives them more depth and story this time around! 2 bodies...3 graves...where is the third missing person? Ahhh so much drama...some shocking early and late in the story, some a slow burn. Guess who is involved, then guess again!
I don't publish bad reviews and normally don't even write them, however, this book is not well written. Seven uses of the word laser to describe people's eyes in the first quarter of the book alone would have gotten any creative writing student an F. Thr dialog is wooden. The overblown drama in the very beginning is the stuff of soap operas and I stopped reading at the quarter mark.
My library will still purchase this title, since Lisa Jackson is a best selling author and our patrons will want to read it, however, if there's still time to edit for the final publication please, for the love of God, do a find and replace for the word "laser".
I am a huge Lisa Jackson fan but I won't read any more with the husband/wife team. Wife Nikki is thoroughly unlikable withno redeeming qualities and her husband is a complete wuss for putting up with her. But I did enjoy the Savannah setting quite a lot.
The Third Grave by Lisa Jackson is a thriller with a mysterious narrator who gives a few clues during the story. The book is interesting and set in an area I love to visit, Savannah.
The mystery starts when the grandson of the previous caretaker, Bronco Cravens, goes into the abandoned Beaumont mansion looking for forgotten treasure. Bronco does not find jewels, but two bodies that have been hidden away for years!
Detective Pierce Reed and his partner, Detective Sylvie Morrisette, go to investigate the anonymous call of a body being found in the old Beaumont basement. They have no idea just how terrible the day will end for one of them.
Nikki Gillette is a journalist and the wife of Detective Reed. Her main objective is getting the next big sensational story at any cost. I was so aggravated at how disrespectful and selfish her thoughts and actions are regarding Reed telling her not to go to the scene. Nickki is headstrong and put her life, her unborn baby, and another detective at risk because she was determined to snoop around the crime scene. I did not like her character and would not read another book with her as the main character.
Another mystery woman is Jade Delacroix, a detective from New Orleans who comes in to assist Reed. She has secrets and is concerned that Nikki will interfere with their case and investigation.
There are layers of characters who have information about the twenty-year-old murder of the two young girls found in the crypt of the Beaumont basement. The Third Grave is an intriguing mystery with greed at the core of the murder. *Strong language.

Thank you to NetGalley. the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
It’s been a long time since the last book in this series came out so I didn’t remember a whole lot about Nikki and Reed except I know I loved it. I’ve been waiting it this authority get back to some of my favorite series and finally it’s here.
This was a page turning suspenseful adventure. The relationship was a rocky ride. This author sure knows how to write a creepy suspense scene that will send chills up your spine and have you looking over your shoulder.
This is the fourth book.in the Pierce Nikki book! I have not read the other sonic don't know how thoes were but this was an ok book!
When a disastrous hurricane sweeps through Georgia and an old Bonaventure mansion is about to fall to the ground this monstrous storm does more than bring the mansion to the ground it leads to a scary grisly find in a cellar. Three graves but there's only two skeletons!!!
To Nikki, the discovery is a gift, the perfect subject for her next crime book... though Reed has made her promise not to keep involving herself in dangerous police business.
This was amazing. I loved everything about this book! Nikki and Reed.... The story itself. The plot!!!! The writing was just fabulous!
Thanks NetGalley, Publisher and Author for this erc!.
Lisa Jackson always delivers and this book is no exception. Having said that, let me back up and say that I absolutely HATED the protagonist, Nikki. She was totally self absorbed and had no concern about anyone except herself. She was willing to derail her husband’s career in order to boost her own career. And not just her husband who was lead detective in the murder. She undermined all rules of decency in her determination to let nothing get in her way of “getting the story.” And quite frankly, her husband was a total sap where she was involved.
The story of the missing girls who turned up in a grave 20 years after they went missing was good. It was definitely a page turner.
I’ll look forward to the next by Lisa Jackson, but don’t think I’ll read any more featuring Nikki.
I’m grateful to NetGalley and the publisher, Kensington Books, for this ARC from one of my favorite authors. The opinions expressed are mine alone.
Lisa Jackson is one of my favorite authors. I anxiously wait for each new release. I have read the rest of the books in this series and enjoyed them but I had a hard time liking Nikki in this book. She does not listen to anyone and puts others in danger. She is just way to reckless
