West is an ex Navy Seal turned small town cop in Kentucky. He meets Roxy after she literally falls into his arms. Roxy is a singer/songwriter looking to start over after her mistakes. The two are instantly attracted and act on it as Roxy ends up staying with West. The couple are around each other often and the desire won't be denied for them. A small town erotic romance.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley.
3 - "Were you born this bossy, or did you grow into it..?" Stars.
We return to the Private Pleasures series with book four; Wet & Reckless giving us uptight cop West, and free-spirited Roxy’s story.
Aside from the cringe-worthy title, and questionable start (perving on an unconscious woman isn’t really a turn-on imo), West & Roxy’s story was what I’d call steady. Not a huge amount occurring in the first third over and above them circling around each other and the attraction between them, but things did heat up and move along a bit more after that.
"Be careful what you wish for…"
Opposites-attract is always a favourite and I didn’t mind this one, but it lacked the heat and fast paced plot that I have come to expect from a Brazen title, but over and above the predicted conflict everyone was left happy and satisfied at the end of the day so not all bad.
Two people who couldn't be more different can't help the chemistry that's building between them. It was instant and out of control.
I liked the character of Roxy. She was a woman who has had a hard life but is trying to make the best of it as she can. She is kind and warm but also very sassy which was fun to read.
West was book boyfriend material from the get go. If you are someone who likes men in uniform with a no nonsense attitude what are rule followers to the T. West is the man for you. It was so fun to read when Roxy would do things just to get under West's skin. Is was fun to watch this straitlaced man get brought to his knees but this spitfire!
This is a new author to me. This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I didn’t have any problem following along. This was a steamy quick read. Roxy and West definitely have chemistry!
This was a super fun and steamy opposites attract romance! Fourth in a series, but it stands alone perfectly!
Former Navy SEAL, and current cop in the small town of Bluelick, Kentucky, West Donovan sees things in black and white. There's not much room for gray, or extenuating circumstances, in his world. He's a rule follower and expects others to follow suit. So, when wild, hitchhiking Roxy blows into town, he doesn't really know what to make of her, or how she makes him feel. He's hoping she passes through town quickly, and he doesn't really have to explore any of these strange new feelings.
Roxy Goodhart is looking for a place to belong. Unfortunately, she arrived in Bluelick about 6 months too late to meet her long, lost grandmother. She grew up on the road with her musical parents, and she's an aspiring singer/songwriter herself. But, she left Nashville in a hurry, after stealing back the guitar that was stolen from her by her lying, thief of a "manager." She's making the best of a bad situation, and trying to hitchhike the last leg into Bluelick, when a patrol car stops and the wildly attractive Officer Donovan gets out. What's a down-on-her-luck girl to do in such a predicament? Get away from him as fast as possible, obviously!
West and Roxy had wildly hot chemistry from that first interaction, even though they both had great, and numerous, reasons to ignore it. Their back-and-forth dance kept me on my toes, and their banter was so fun, and funny. I adored watching them figure each other out, and themselves in the process. Being a person with her absolute opposite for a husband, I totally got the appeal of their situation.
The town of Bluelick was a delight, and I loved all the side characters we met here. This was the first book I've read in this series, but I'm so intrigued by the other couples in town, that I'll definitely be revisiting Bluelick in the near future! I also fell in love with the diner owner, Addy, and I hope we'll be getting her story in the future! Additionally, there was a brief scene of two young officers who will be going undercover together, and I will definitely be looking for their story too! There seems to be a bit of a mystery plot, that I assume will be ongoing, as it was not solved in this story. That threw me a bit, but I'm very interested to see how that plays out!
This was a story of two very different people, who had been through a lot in their lives, coming together to make each other's hearts complete. I really fell in love with both West and Roxy, as well as them together as a couple. I was so excited to have a new book by this author, and I can't wait for more!!
What a hot and delicious story about a small town cop and a singer-songwriter on the run from a dishonest ex-manager. It has chemistry in spades between these two characters. Add a mix of small town interesting characters with hearts of gold and you have a great story from Samanthe Beck's very capable pen. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for her next story!
Roxy Goodheart is running away from Nashville and her ex-manager Randy Boudreaux. Randy stole her dad's rare and very valuable Gibson guitar and Roxy stole it back from his uncle's Pawn Shop. Seems Uncle Billy does a lot of business under the table and with a strong arm and Roxy is scared they'll find her. Bluelick cop West Donovan, a former Navy SEAL and NYPD officer picks her up on the side of the road hitchhiking illegally. She promptly passes out in his arms from hunger & heat. He takes her into town to feed her, get her story & encourage her to move on. He gets called away and by the time he gets back she has a job and a place to live. Everyone knows everyone in Bluelick Kentucky and she's now working for Adelaide DeShay at her diner & living in the basement of her rental...where West lives upstairs. West is pretty black & white in his thinking and Roxy lives up to the nickname he gives her Reckless. I really enjoyed how these two ended up giving into their chemistry and finally opening their hearts.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An enjoyable read. I took me a while to connect to the characters but once I did, the story took off. The resolution of the story was very satisfying.
This was a DNF for me. I found it extremely hard to get into, and I put it down and came back several times. I read a review that says it gets better in the last half of the book, but I just couldn't make myself get that far into the book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
For the most part, I liked this book. Roxy was a great character, very free-spirited and kind with a lot of baggage, most not of her own doing. I didn’t like Wes and how he treated Roxy when they first met, to be honest. He had to grow on me. I did like how me grounded her and she brought out his playful side. Their chemistry was red hot and very spicy.
I hadn’t read any of the other book in the series, but Bluelick, KY is a very interesting small town! I had no trouble getting to know some of the quirky characters, who added so much flavor to the story. So while it was a slow start for me, I still recommend this book.
West and Roxy put on a very steamy show. Wes is a former SEAL and small town cop who lives by the rules. Roxy is a young singer trying to make her way alone. The story has some characters that could only be found in a small town. They bring funny and wild conversations to the story. As Roxy and Wes build their relationship trust becomes a tangible issue. Letting go and admitting your failures will be what it takes to achieve happiness.
This was a fun quick read.
The two characters have insane chemistry! They have a unique meet cute and have great banter from the start.
The relationship builds between West & Roxy until the sexual tension bomb explodes. And my oh my does this get smutty!! I would read this for the smut alone, it was that steamy!
If you’re looking for a quick, smutty read with great characters give this a try!
Thank you Entangled Publishing & NetGalley for the arc. This in no way influenced my opinion or review.
Opposites attract in Wet and Reckless. Samanthe Beck’s fourth Private Pleasures book is smokin’ hot and tons of fun with characters who are easy to like. West is a strong, serious, by-the-book cop and Roxy is a confident, sassy musician with tons of talent and a secret that could ruin everything. At first they’re like oil and water but the sexual attraction between them is impossible to ignore. I loved the banter, the tension, and the pull neither could resist.
Roxy and West shouldn’t work as a couple but they fit together perfectly. West is straight-laced (outside of the bedroom) and protective and Roxy is outgoing in confident in ways that drive him wild. Roxy teaches West to unbend and he helps her face her problems instead of running away. Roxy’s past has plenty of heartbreaking moments and I wanted to see her find home and become the person she’s meant to be. Neither she nor West is perfect; West can be stubborn and not see shades of grey and Roxy can be impulsive and, well, reckless. But their flaws help build their characters and I loved to watch them grow over the course of the story.
Wet and Reckless is sexy as can be but it’s the characters and the heart they have that make the book memorable. This is the fourth installment of Beck’s Private Pleasures series but having not yet read the first three books I can say with confidence Roxy and West’s story stands on its own. I really liked the town of Bluelick and the people in it make me eager to read the stories I’ve missed. All in all I really enjoyed Wet and Reckless. It’s a fast-paced, sexy ride with characters who are easy to like and a romance you can root for.
Samanthe Beck is a new-to-me author. Never one to shy away from giving a new author a try, I was intrigued enough by the cover and the blurb to take a chance on this book. I have mixed feelings about this one, though.
From the very first chapter, I had a hard time getting into the story. I wasn’t sure I cared for West much at all at the beginning or the directions of his thoughts regarding a very young woman in distress. Maybe it’s because I’m a girl mom and the world out there scares me for her, but his thoughts and feelings about Roxy utterly turned me off. And if I can’t connect with the main characters, the story will usually fall flat for me.
Despite my reluctance to continue, I wanted to be able to give a well-thought-out and well-rounded review, so I powered on. My reward for pressing on was a much more well-developed plot and a more likable West about halfway through the story. Before that point, it was quite easy to walk away from the book and walk away often. However, after about the 50% mark, I felt much more invested in the story as a whole and generally enjoyed it and eventually loving how it ended.
I guess I just feel that in this day and time, with the social climate the way it is, I would have liked to see a little more professionalism and less sexualization of a potential victim than the author gave us in West at the beginning of the story. I could understand a few stray thoughts here and there. But it wasn’t enjoyable reading the continued sexual thoughts he had regarding an obviously lost and hurt young woman. I get chemistry. I get it was hard for him not to view her as a potential bad guy, so to speak. But it all just seemed a little…much.
As I said, though, it turned out to be a lot more enjoyable of a read than what my first impression was. The overall story was redeeming enough that I can’t say I’m never going to read anything else this author writes. I’m always willing to give a new-to-me author more chances to sway me one way or another, so I look forward to seeing what she gives us next.
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give Wet and Reckless by Samanthe Beck 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Wet and Reckless.
Wanderlust and a free spirit meets law and order.
This trope is as good as Grumpy meet sunshine. The opposites of Roxy and West made for almost instant chemistry and connection between them.
West is a caretaker. It is just part of makeup. He is a guy who you can lean on and call on. He is a steady figure. But when he meets the whirlwind of a wisp known as Roxy his desire for calm is shaken. He is attracted to the pixie of a woman who is ok living in the moment free of roots and long-term plans. West knows almost from the beginning that Roxy has the possibility to break his heart.
Roxy has been raised by parents who lived their life on the road. Escaping their small town start to be free and follower their music. Roxy returns to small town Bluelick to try and connect with her maternal grandmother the last member of her family to learn that she died 6 months previous. Roxy stays in Bluelick to learn a little of the place her mama was raised but to save some money before moving on to the next thing. Roxy’s life has been anything but easy. She has a past and knows her limits and she know that no matter how much she loves Bluelick her past is going to catch up to her and she needs to move on quickly.
Roxy is one of those characters you instantly connect with you. You can just feel the pain she has suffered. The loss of her parents. The fact that she has no roots, no safe place to fall. You just want to reach through the pages and give her that safe place. Roxy doesn’t realize it but she needs that safe place. And West might just be that safe place for her she can let go of her own insecurities. The entire span of the book Roxy isn’t only protecting her heart but also West’s. She knows she can’t stay and nothing good will come if she tries.
The book is written in 3rd person and I really wanted inside West’s head. We got some small glimpses of things he was thinking but I wanted more! So much more!
This books bring some big feels with some great steamy and spicy connection. I really do love the small-town comradery. I am curious at the underlying mystery that is popping up and I can not wait of the next book. Samanthe Beck is a newer to me author, but I will be recommending this series to everyone who will listen. So this is your book if you like a sexy alpha hero who is brought to his knees by a wisp of a girl with a past she is running from. This should be your next read.
It's been awhile since I've read this author and I'm not sure why I've waited so long. I can say 100% that this author really knows how to write sexy scenes. You could feel the heat with every encounter between Roxy and West. That alone makes this book worth the read, but there is so much more you get with this book. The setting is in a small town in Kentucky, so that brings you all sorts of side characters to fall in love with. You also get the previous couples from the other books in this series. Even with that, you can easily read this as a standalone. Overall, I just found this to be a really good read and it makes me want to read more from the author.
Roxy is a singer/songwriter and has always been a wanderer. She was performing in Nashville when her guitar is stolen by her no account manager and he sells it to a pawn shop. Roxy steals it back and heads to Kentucky to her grandmother, whom she’s never met. Roxy ends up hitchhiking and a cop pulls over. West is a former Navy SEAL but now works for the sheriff department. He is a by the book cop and he takes her into town. They stop at a diner and Roxy gets a job and rents an apartment. West gets surprised to find Roxy is now his downstairs neighbor. He plans to stay away from the reckless woman but he can’t. But when Roxy’s past returns, she can either run or tell West the truth.
I absolutely loved this story. Romance, sexy, and bad guys. The only thing was they didn’t tell us who hurt Roxy and why.

Super sexy and loaded with love.

For me there is no better story than one that includes a hot cop and this is a perfect example!
Beck created the perfect specimen in West! Not only is he sweet, compassionate, and caring, but he is one long drink of water that can cool the hottest flames. I need one of these in my life!
Roxy is a great female character as well. It is tough for me to say that as I am usually overly critical of female characters but she is not whiney, overly annoying, or thinks that anything is owed to her. She is a great balance for West and that is huge.
Together these two can set fires. The heat and steam is off the hook and I love the combustion these two fuel. But the plot is also a solid, interesting story as well. The supporting characters round out the story and give a well balanced, entertaining food for your brain.
While not deep and life changing, Wet and Reckless is a story with fun, humor, steam, friends, delight, and an awesome HEA (Happily Ever After) we love!
When police officer West Donovan takes one look at hitchhiker Roxy Goodhart, he instantly realizes that she is the exact kind of trouble he doesn't need in his town... or his heart.
The last thing Roxy needs is a by-the-book (and way too sexy), police officer looking too closely into her past mistakes. But soon the small town of Bluelick, KY starts to feel like home... and West her future... and Roxy just knows it all seems too good to be true...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wet & Reckless was a sexy and fun, opposites attract romance! Roxy and West clash from the first moment they meet, but the sparks they ignite simply can't be extinguished... or ignored. Roxy is an aspiring musician with no roots or family, who finds herself in a town that welcomes her with open arms... well, except for one person. West is the uptight police officer who wishes Roxy would move on... before he and everyone else gets way too attached...
This was such a fantastic read! The attraction between Roxy and West was intriguing, intense, and so incredibly sexy! Roxy's character was in need of the love she finds in Bluelick, more than she ever realized. From her connection with West, to the new friends and neighbors she meets along the way, Roxy may have finally found the place where she belongs... as long as her past doesn't catch up to her first...
West went from serving in the military, to being a police officer in New York City, until finally settling into the significantly slower pace of small town Kentucky. And while West prides himself on his iron clad restraint and sense of control, he finds himself highly distracted by all things Roxy...and he is not happy about it...
This was the first book that I have read from the Private Pleasures series, but after this fantastic first glimpse into the town of Bluelick, you had better believe that I will be delving into all of its stories! Roxy and West's book brought an addicting opposites attract plot, sweltering sex, and at it's roots, a story about a couple finally finding where they really belong... in each others arms...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
This was the first book I have read I the series, but it can be read as a standalone book. This was a quick, fun read full of some steamy scenes! I really enjoyed these characters, and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
West, a small town cop, pulls over to check out a hitchhiker. Enter: a guitar-toting Roxy. They immediately have great banter and chemistry and their story unfurls from there. I enjoyed their passion and the way they balanced each other personality-wise. West is a rule follower and he nicknames Roxy “Reckless” for a reason.
4 stars!
