Ember of Night was such a phenomenal read. It had me pulled in from page 1 all the way through to the last page
Harley is a 17 year old girl who lives with her abusive alcoholic father. All she wants to do when she turns 18, is to move out with her 7 year old baby sister Ray. But that is until gorgeous and infuriating Draven turns up telling her she is a key to stopping war between heaven and hell. I absolutely love Draven. He is such a mystery to unravel, full of secrets that had me glued to the book into the late hours at night to find out what was happening. I love Draven and Harley’s baiter and sense of humour between each other, full snark and sarcasm that had me in stitches at times. Harley was such a strong and confident young lady that puts up with her dad's abuse and hits and will do anything to protect Ray so she can have the best life she can give her, but now that all hell's creatures are after her which makes that dream a lot hard to full fill.

Ember of night was full of twists and turns, kept you guessing all the way through, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I read all within a few days and didnt want it to end and needed more. There was such strong emotion that had me in tears and some absolutely hilarious moments too, this book had everything. Molly E. Lee did such a super job and loved the writing and the plot was fast pacing. Cannot wait for the second book Shadow of light. I can't recommend this book enough. It was breathtaking.
This book! That cliffhanger! Wow! I loved the twists and turns. I love how it took the traditional story and twisted it so we could see the after for once. I won't say what the story is to keep it spoiler free. I love the character buildup and how we get to see the main characters interact and build on each other. All I can say is trust no one and nothing.
EMBER OF NIGHT was a ride of a book. I am really glad that the author decided to put trigger warnings at the beginning of the book because there is most definitely triggering content in this book, so be sure to check those out before you pick up this book.
I thought the premise and world-building of the angels vs. demons mythology of this book were unique and interesting, even though I will say they don't align with what I believe personally, which is ok and didn't impact my view of this book. I couldn't help but really identify with Harley in many ways growing up with a mentally abusive parent myself and struggling with some of the things that I did as a teen. I am always here for strong female characters who find themselves empowered as men try to make them feel powerless, so I couldn't help but root for Harley as she came into her power and her confidence. The sister relationship in this book between Harley and Ray was really well-written. It's the romance between Draven and Harley that just clinched it for me. I love their dynamic. I love him and how he encourages Harley to be confident in herself and her strength. There's something about a man who is about empowering the girl he loves and who loves her for who she is. The romance is on-point and there is steam and fantastic chemistry between the two. I probably would have classified this one as new adult as opposed to YA, but it isn't a bad read. It's just pretty heavy, which adds many dimensions to this novel. Above anything else though, there is a hope that permeates every page of this book, and I thought it was well worth the read. I look forward to the next installment in this story.
I loved this! Especially how it's basically demon based. There are some trigger Warnings that should be noted before you read, which the author did include. Lots of action!
I loved the supernatural elements mixing with today’s world in this book. The premise is unique and the characters were interesting and relatable. The epilogue didn’t have me racing to read the next book… a little overkill.
It's a good paranormal romance with some heartbreaking moments. Engrossing and entertaining.
The characters are fleshed out and the world building interesting
I'm not a fan of the final cliffhanger but it made me wish I could read the follow up soon
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Honestly this book just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t really get into it, try as I might. I hope it was just because I was not in a fantasy mood so when I am in a better headspace I can actually get to it.
I loved this novel. I felt close with the characters and super invested into the story! I really want to see where else this story goes.
"Draven is mysterious, evasive, and hot as sin. The only thing more infuriating than how much he won’t say is how obnoxious he is every time he does open his mouth. But when a group of strangers attacks me and he fights back, causing them to vanish into a cloud of black dust, I know Draven is more than he seems.
He finally shows me there’s a veil separating the world I know from a world of demons living all around us. Turns out, good and evil are just words. Some of the demons don’t fall into either category. And I’m realizing just how easily I fit in among the ancient warlocks, the divine soldiers, and the twisted supernatural..."
I am obsessed with this novel! I am a sucker for paranormal romances, and this did not disappoint. If you are interested in novels similar to the Crave series, this is your next read. Join Draven and Harley as they explore a part forbidden romance and part VERY unfamiliar powers.
Review to come. Thanks to for granting my wish of an ARC Entangled Publishing and Netgalley. Honest review to come.

I am going to start this review with a warning. There are graphic scenes of child abuse in Ember of Night. Not only did it trigger me, but I was shaking mad at every adult in the book (including Harley’s boss). How many black eyes and burn marks can you see before thinking, “Well, maybe something is going on, and I should get involved.” Shame on them (and yes, I was invested emotionally at this point). Because of how graphic the abuse got (in one scene, Harley’s father beats her unconscious), I highly recommend that older teens read this book.
Before you all go, “Oh wow, graphic abuse, yeah, not for me,” I do want to add that the author did mention the abuse in her author’s note, AND she gave resources out if you/someone you know is being abused. So a huge kudos to her for not only the warning but for making those resources available at the beginning of the book.
Harley was my hero for the entire book. Understandably, she had almost no self-esteem, and there were times where she wanted to commit suicide. But, she had a lifeline. She had her 7-year-old sister, Ray, to protect and take care of.
Harley dealt with the supernatural part of the book better than I would have. I mean, she was attacked by three different types of demons, found out that her martial arts instructor was a demon, and learned what Draven was all within an afternoon. I would have been in a corner, sobbing my eyes out and rocking back and forth. But not Harley. She went out and kicked ass (all while making sure that Ray was safe).
I loved Draven too. He was hot and broody. He had an instant connection with Harley that he tried to ignore. I mean, he was supposed to find out if she was the Key (it is explained in the book) and then kill her if she was. He wasn’t supposed to develop feelings for her or protect her from the demons trying to get at her. His backstory was even more tragic than Harley’s. He wasn’t abused like she was, exactly. Instead, he was an outcast because of his unique abilities.
Harley and Draven’s romance was sweet. They were not looking to fall in love with each other. There were sparks whenever they were together. I expected them to admit their feelings sooner but was pleasantly surprised when it happened later rather than sooner.
There is sexual content in the book. Harley and Draven do get together in Ember of Night. The author does a great job of leading up to them having sex with some heavy petting scenes before ending the chapter. It wasn’t graphic, but it was implied.
The main storyline was well written. The author did a fantastic job of keeping me guessing at what Draven was going to do when Harley grew into her powers. A massive twist in that plotline (involving Harley’s father) took me 100% by surprise. I had to put down my book and take a minute to process it, and it was that big of a surprise.
Several more minor storylines were well written and were successfully merged into the main storyline by the end of the book. These secondary storylines fleshed out certain characters and explained why certain people did things in the book.
The author did a fantastic job of creating a complex and diverse world where demons and angels intermingled with humans. I couldn’t get enough of the different races of demons or angels.
The end of Ember of Night was a shock. Not only because of the big battle scene, which was truly magnificent, but with what was revealed.
My only complaint about the ending was it was a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers!!!
I enjoyed reading Ember of Night. It was a well-written book that kept me glued to the pages.
I would recommend Ember of Night to anyone over the age of 16. There are graphic child abuse scenes. There is implied sex. There are scenes of heavy petting. There is violence, and there is language.
I devoured this one - and did NOT see the end coming. No idea where the next book will take the story, but I'm definitely planning on reading it to find out. This was an entertaining story with some great characters and moments - recommended!
Harley didn't have an easy childhood and because of her abusive father she distrust everyone almost to a fault. For example anytime a guy tries to give her advice or phrases something wrong she loses it but at the same time she trusts Draven way to soon and never misses an opportunity to mention how hot he is. Despite that I live for their dialog, you cannot deny they have some steamy chemistry. This book takes place in an urban setting but the world building needed to be more present. I admire the bond between the sisters and the lengths Harley is willing to go to keep her sister safe and happy. Other than some demons attacks, I never really felt the villain's presence. There was a lot of set up for the second book and I am looking forward to reading it.
Loved this book!!! At first I didn’t think I was going to like it but it surprised me. I actually really enjoyed reading this story line. I loved the characters. Overall highly recommend this book
I was gifted this ARC by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.
Harley has grown up in an abusive household with the sole purpose of protecting her little sister, and making it to 18 to be able to move out and gain custody. After battling her father for so many years and having the scars to prove it, she thinks 18 is going to be the start of her new life. Little did she know, it would be, just not in the way she expected. Meeting and handsome, dark stranger and being thrown into a world where angels and demons are real, and she is key to open up hell, she has to fight for her and her sister's life.
This book started out soooo good! I couldn't put it down! But after a few demon fight scenes, I was just bored. it takes close to 50% of the book for demons to even make a distinct entrance into the book, and then the rest of it, I felt like it was just her making out with Draven (GREAT character name btw!!), but never going further, and Draven was constantly pushing her away right when it was getting good which was so freaking infuriating; and also battling demons, which sounds cool, but I don't know. I just felt bored after a while. I'm bummed because I really wanted to love this book, the beginning had me so enraptured and I wish I could pinpoint exactly why it was I felt it didn't do it for me. I can see so many people loving this story though and identifying with the main characters. Draven was a really cool character, if only he wasn't so annoying with the whole "I can't" business. I rated this a 2.75/5, rounded up to a 3.
T/W: Physical Abuse.
Harley only has one goal in life and that's to make her little sister, Rae, a better life than what she had. Draven is the hot new employee that works with Harley and drives her wild with desire. I like all the characters, Harley is my favorite. She is so strong, she might get her ass kicked sometimes but she keeps getting up to face what's coming. Harley and Draven together is so sweet. The next book comes out in November, I can't wait.

I was really surprised by my reading! The author build a big universe, that I like so much.
¤
In this story, Harley is 17 years old and has only one goal: when she will be 18, she will run away from her father and take her sister with her. The father is violent with the children and he is almost always under the effects of his alcohol consumption.
However, throughout the story, Harley will have a second goal in her life: to survive against creatures who are after her because her blood is the key that can open access to the Underworld on Earth.
The author takes us on a supernatural story, filled with action and a war between Heaven and the Underworld. Also, the story is spiced with a romance, which is really intense and sensual.
¤
I was particularly touched by the character of Harley and her desire to protect her sister. The violence in her daily life shook me and her will to live overwhelmed me.
I enjoyed seeing her evolution over the course of her adventures, knowing her thoughts, especially when she made the choice to fight and not to run away.
At the very beginning, Harley is not a great heroine, and yet she quickly takes her place. She becomes badass fastly.
Nevertheless, I don't know what to think of Draven. For me, he is a cliché of a bad boy, who protects himself because he is heartbroken. The romance between the 2 characters is quite intense and there are a lot of details concerning their feelings, their thoughts or their actions. I didn't enjoyed this side of the story. This love story is abrupt, it's almost instantaneous and I'm not a fan of this.
¤
Regarding the text and its form, the author has an incredible writing style. She plays with the length of sentences to speed up the pace and engage the reader in her story. Moreover, there were so much twists! I was not able to predict all the events that took place. I am impressed by the way the author has managed to maintain a certain amount of suspense, while providing informations, to finally surprise her readers without giving them the time to breathe.
And maybe, I would have liked to breathe a little. At one point, I felt overwhelmed by all the events, all the action that were in the story. I was starting to get lost. I think I would have liked more development, more slowness.
¤
Finally, I don't read many supernatural stories but I found myself loving this one. A lot. The protagonist is interesting. The atmosphere created by the author, through her writing style and her ability to play with the pace, is oppressive and catchy at the same time. If I blame the speed of events and the romance that I would have liked less intense, the rest of the novel was just great and unpredictable.
"Just because something is damaged doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. All things have value. Don't let anyone tell you differently." Well this book is sooooo impactful. Can we talk about the view Harley has on healthcare with a focus on mental health in elementary school? That's awesome. Her little sister Ray, is gifted, not just with artist skills. I'm very curious to find out what the "chain" means between Harley and Draven. That ending! I was not expecting that bombshell. I have soooo many questions. Will Dravens power differ now that he's "back"? Harley is the ____ but like how..? How did/ why did the seven out Ray into harleys hands at the age of thirteen..? What's next for them all?
Ember Of Night begins with a forward from the author with trigger warnings. You could tell she did a lot of research before writing this book to do justice to abuse victims. She even included where readers can reach out for help if needed.
Harley will do anything to protect her little sister. Including taking daily beatings from her abusive alcoholic father. In her view, it’s worth every hit to save her sister. Their whole existence is avoiding him and saving every penny Harley can make at her job at a local deli so the day Harley turns 18 they can move away and finally be safe.
Until one day She finds herself with powers no one has ever seen before and Harley threw headfirst into a world of angels, demons, and things that go bump in the night. And surprise they are all out to kill her.
In what Harley thinks in a change meeting she runs into Dravon and later finds out he’s the new employee at the deli she works at. Immediately there is a connection between them. They both believe they are broken and unworthy of love and they both recognize they are the same kind of broken. They understand each other. They have great banter. I felt like they both are written very well for the trauma they both had in their lives.
I think writing an accurate representation of people with a traumatic background would be a massive undertaking and I believe this was done very well.
The story was an intense and fast-paced urban fantasy with plenty of romance. Harley and Dravon were very likable and I really enjoyed this story. I’m looking forward to seeing where this story goes in future books.
Absolutely incredible book. I loved it. So glad I was able to get this book early as an advanced copy. Thank you to the publisher. Really enjoyed this one. The cover is so beautiful
