A lovely book about multigenerational family dynamics - the relationships, friendships and characters make the book. I love a good feel good story and this has that in spades.
I loved this novel from Amy Pine - perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls and the Jewish representation was excellent - something I always appreciate very much!
Unfortunately, this book was not for me and I will not be reviewing this title. Did not finish. I am sure it is right for some other reader!
Bloom Girls was a fun read! I loved the mother/daughter relationship in this book. Gabi and Alissa had such a sweet connection. Definitely the highlight of the book for me!
The Bloom Girls by Amy Pine
Source: NetGalley and Forever
Rating: 3/5 stars
The Bottom Line: I think after all the years I have been reading, a book really must be something special for me to get above three-stars. The Bloom Girls was yet another book I enjoyed but can’t think of anything particularly exciting about the book that will cause me to rave about it. This is a nice story about a mother and daughter who each have life-changing events that will likely permanently impact their tight bond/relationship. This one has all the feels from funny to heartbreaking, but nothing super surprising in the plot. Yet again, I find myself wondering, would I recommend this book? Sure, it’s a decent time passer and a total feel-good book by the end.
I love multigenerational stories especially about women so this one worked well for me. Give me complex family drama with a side of romance and I’m all in.
This book is fantastic from start to finish. The characters felt so real and relatable. The romance was sweet and complete with all the feels. I loved the family dynamics and the settings as well.
I love the Blooms girls and couldn't put the book down. What a fun romp! I laughed and smiled and my heart goes out to Gabi and Alissa. What a wonderful relationship that they have. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their tales. . I enjoyed all of the relationships in the book and thought that Amy did a splendid job describing them and endearing all of the characters to the readers. Definitely a great book to cuddle up with during a rainy day!
The thing about Amy Pine is she can write a fully engrossing story that you do not want to put down. I fell in love with all the characters here from the epic meet cute to the complicated family and all their hijinks. This book was different than I expected but in the best way. It had a fun gilmore girls / rom-com vibe that i needed.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves a character driven story full of excellent banter, and complex characters and lots of humor.
This was a great read. Exploring the lives, problems, and struggles of characters all at different stages in their lives. I loved it! Very interesting and great writing!
I would give this 3.5/5 stars. It was a light summer read that seemed inspired by the Gilmore Girls. The author focuses on several relationships throughout the novel, including mother-daughter relationships, siblings, romantic love, and family dynamics. It was a fun story, but I think the characters dragged out their 'issues' a little. Most of the conflict in the book could've (and was) resolved with communication.
Twenty two year old Gabi , travelling in Europe meets Ethan and returns home to Chicago engaged to him.
Her forty year old mother ,Alissa, finds herself pregnant from a fling with her ex. A fun story about families and relationships. Thanks to Netgalley and the publ;isher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Wow wow wow! So much better than i expected! A great spring summer read please read this one ASAP! You won’t regret it
A solid story of a complicated relationship between a mother and daughter as the daughter reached adulthood. The mom was a teen when she got pregnant and they grew up together. They both have to learn to navigate their lives without each other. Add in relationships for both and it gets even more complicated. Good Jewish representation in this book. (IMO)
Thank you Forever Publishing for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review! I ended up getting the audiobook for The Bloom Girls and really recommend it!
I liked the multiple points of view of Gabi, her mother Alissa and her father Matthew. I definitely got Gilmore Girls vibes from Alissa and Matthew’s relationship. I had a hard time believing Alissa could keep her pregnancy from her daughter for so long and I was frustrated with her for not sharing it with Gabi. I liked how Alissa and Matthew and Gabi and Ethan skewed through their problems. The ending fell a little flat for me when they didn’t get married. I would be very upset at her for letting it get that far after all of the work everyone else put into it. The ending about finding her brother-in-law was very random and took away from the story for me. It didn’t really make sense unless there’s a book 2 being teased.
The Bloom Girls are mom, Alissa and daughter, Gabi. The setting is the suburbs of Chicago (mostly). Alissa gave birth to Gabi at age 18 and although their family and relationship is unconventional, they both still have deep ties to Matthew, Alissa’s first love and Gabi’s father. The book takes place when Gabi is 22, a newly minted graduate and Alissa is 40. Both women have love stories happening simultaneously and surprises are in store for this funny and loving family which include parents, siblings, in-laws and best friends. If you are familiar with the song 500 Miles, you will hear it on the repeat in your head after reading The Bloom Girls. I loved the mother/daughter relationship and had ups and downs with the romantic aspects of this book. The author threw in a curveball at the end (gearing up for another book to follow) and I’m still not sure how I feel about it! Thank you to @netgalley and @readforeverpub for the free e-book. This is a multigenerational story dealing with unexpected pregnancy and sharing the news. This book did not meet my expectations and I was disappointed. I rate this a 2.75 stars.
Well here's another title to toss onto the "why did I wait so long?" pile. This was a back read from my NetGalley shelf. A sure hit for fans of women's fiction, it was an entertaining blend of humour and heart. Recommended for fans of tales that include multigenerational families with a bit of quirk . Delightful!
A friend got an ARC and was raving about The Bloom Girls, so I knew I had to read, and it was just as charming as she said. From the description of Gilmore Girls meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I could not have imagined a more fun pairing! I love the story hopping between countries and the love between Gabi and her family and with Ethan. It was a light, fun read and I’ll definitely be looking to Pine for more books.
This is a very enjoyable story of family in its various iterations. Gabi is traveling in EuropE, taking photographs, hoping to add to her portfolio. At home, Alissa, her mother, is dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, dubbed a geriatric pregnancy due to her age. Alissa’s relationship with her ex husband, Matthew, has aLways been complicated, but they have co-parented Gabi successfully. Gabi returns to Chicago with an unexpected surprise. Add a zany bunch of relatives, and some real laugh out loud moments, and you will understand why I really liked this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
