This is a fun second Chance romance. It’s filled with small town charm, entertaining characters, chemistry, good friends, a grandma with second sight, and plenty of romance. This is a delightful and heartfelt read and I very much enjoyed it. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Abby Engel is making her dreams come true. She lives in the home that was her childhood safe spot, with her grandmother. She owns Sunshine Corner, watching the town’s adorable children, while prepping to open a preschool. The only thing left in her master plan, is a family to call her own. Carter Hayes has returned home, only for a few weeks, to help his sister. He is determined not to be trapped in the small town, because his dreams are close to happening in Las Vegas. However, when he is thrown in the path of his ex-girlfriend, Carter begins to question everything. Will these two driven people find a way to come together, or are they destined for heartbreak, once again?
This debut novel is adorable. The entire cast of characters is lovely, and readers will be anxious for updates on everyone, in book two. Phoebe Mills does a good job, showing the other side of sunshine, with pregnancy, owning a small business, and chasing dreams. Though a tad repetitive at times, the story is impossible to put down. Readers will be rooting for the main characters. This is a must-read for fans of small-town romance.

The House on Sunshine Corner is the first in a series of romance novels, based in the super cute town of Heart’s Hope Bay. This cute book follows Abby Engel, who grew up in Heart’s Hope Bay and is living her dream of running Sunshine Corner, a daycare center, with her best friends. However, not all of her dreams are fulfilled - especially because while she watches other people’s children all day, she wants her own family more than anything. Unfortunately, her dating life shows no signs of cooperating with her plans - until Carter Hayes, her former high school sweetheart, comes back to town.
You will love this book if…
📚…you like second chance romances. Carter and Abby broke things off years ago, but now that he is back in town, they both seem to be having trouble remembering why they ended things in the first place.
📚…you are looking for something light & cozy. The book touched on the struggles that Abby and Carter both faced growing up with parents who were not loving and supportive, and the impact that has had on their adult relationships. The subject matter stays fairly light though, and the book doesn’t dive too deep into emotional territory.
📚…you want a fun read with a cute cast of characters. The characters are all fun and have cute relationships, and Abby has an adorable dog that hangs out at the daycare all day. My kids would love that!
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Abby’s life is happy, but the one thing she has always wanted, her own family, has eluded her. When her old boyfriend, Carter, comes back into town, the sparks still fly. I loved this second chance love story, and can’t wait for Phoebe Mills’ next book!
This contemporary romance was so fun!
This enemies to lovers, single parent romance was a joy. It's also second chance, and that always seems to work in these small town romances for me.
Abby loves her life as the owner of Sunshine Corner Daycare. She's ambitious, and loves her small town life. Carter has always belived that business and family can't work together. When they are unexpectedly reunited, sparks fly again, and we go from that point.
I can't believe this was a debut. It was solid, and I can't wait to see what comes from this author in the future!
The House on Sunshine Corner is a sweet second-chance romance.
It was clear from the beginning that Abby and Carter never truly got over their feelings for one another. He's only back in town for a short time, but they easily fit back into each other's lives. I really liked the two of them together and their struggles individually and as a couple felt realistic.
Abby's grandma Hilde was wonderful. She loved Abby fiercely, and added a lot of humor to the story. I also liked their friends group and the future stories that were hinted at. I am looking forward to reading more in the series!
The House on Sunshine Corner is the first book in The Sunshine Corner series by Phoebe Mills. This debut novel, is a second chance romance between two high school sweethearts and I found it to be enjoyable from the start.
Abby Engel is happy with where she's at in life. She's got good friends, her grandma, who has always been her rock, and her daycare, The Sunshine Corner, which she runs out of the home she shares with her grandma. She's completely content to still be living in the small town where she grew up, however she's starting to get to the point where she's ready to find someone to share her life with, but the pickings are slim given the small town.
Carter Hayes couldn't get out of Heart's Hope Bay fast enough when he turned eighteen. He went off to college, became an architect and has been making a name, and a living, for himself in Las Vegas ever since. His dream is to start his own architecture firm, but he needs a bit more experience before he'll be able to do that.
When Carter's sister, Becca, is in an accident and ends up on crutches and with a bum leg, he heads back to his hometown to help her out with his three year-old niece, Sofia. Since Sofia attends The Sunshine Corner, he comes face-to-face with the woman he loved and let get away so many years ago. When Abby and Carter keep running into one another all over town, Abby starts to wonder if the universe is trying to tell her something. Are she and Carter destined to find their way back to one another?
These two characters grabbed my attention from the get-go and I liked the way the story was set up. The supporting characters were great, especially little Sofia. I also liked that even though Carter and Abby knew one another so well back in high school, they still had things to share with one another that they hadn't before. It seemed to strengthen the bond they already had.
As I said, I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to what Ms. Mills offers us next!

I love a sweet second-chance romance. One where you know they loved each other but they were worried about the distance, in this case going to different colleges that were hours apart. I also think there's something to be said for high school relationships and how sometimes they can benefit from time apart.
From the beginning, it was clear that the driving force to their initial breakup was that Carter didn't want to stay in the small town of Heart's Hope Bay, OR and that Abby couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I felt like this romance was low-stakes and low-drama, resulting in a passionate reconnection between high school sweethearts. The ending was heartwarming and I was emotional right beside Abby.
The secondary characters in this book made it so much more enjoyable for me From Gia and Marco's tension in figuring out how they can successfully co-parent. To Savannah and the animosity with one of her brothers' best friends, Noah. To the adorable and tiny Sofia, who is Carter's 3-year-old niece. To Carter's meddling little sister Becca. To Hilde, Abby's grandmother that makes magic happen. I loved all of them and can't wait to see what's in store next in Savannah and Noah's story, because I love a good enemies-to-lovers story.

The House On Sunshine Corner - Review
Carter Hayes, the boy who broke Abby Angel's heart, will never be forgotten. He was once her everything, the boy she imagined marrying and settling down with in Heart's Hope Bay. But she realized her dream was one-sided, so they split up and haven't seen each other since.
Things are about to change because he is returning home to help out family, and they are bound to cross paths in their small town. Will it have a happy ending?
Carter never expected to have a second chance to repair what he had broken years before. He sees his mistakes and wishes to make amends and reclaim the girl he has always loved.
The House on Sunshine Corner is the first book in Phoebe Mills' Sunshine Corner series. This is a lovely story about a second chance. Abby and Carter are no longer teenagers, and being apart for so long has changed them. I liked how they both realized they hadn't been completely honest with each other after high school.
Their road to a happy ending was fraught with difficulties. I was so relieved to see them work through their problems and realize how much they cared for each other. One thing I would have loved to see more was Carter's relationship with his father, that would have given his character more to look forward to.
In all, this was an excellent start to the series.
I received an arc of this book, via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion. Thanks, Forever for this copy.
This sweet second chance romance set in an idyllic small town was the perfect way to spend a weekend! Abby and Carter's story was filled with a little bit of angst and a lot of love. I'd call this book charming, romantic, fun, and the heat between Abby and Carter (closed door) was very satisfying to read.
I was extremely excited to learn that this is the first book in a series because the author did an amazing job of setting up Abby and Carter's friend group in a way that left me wanting more and there was some major enemies to lovers tension happening with two in particular. Add to that Abby's grandmother Hilde who along with her friends was a great instigator of great plot points and I'm ready to return to Sunshine Corner asap!
The House on Sunshine Corner by Phoebe Mills is the first book in the contemporary romance The Sunshine Corner series. This first book of the series is a second chance romance. And being the first book of the series I’m not totally sure if this one is the type of series to continue or switch characters in the next of the series.
Abby Engel has most everything she could want in life, good friends, her business she has started all on her own and her grandmother who helped raise her. The one thing Abby is missing in her life though is someone to share it with and to start a family of her own. No one though has ever come close to making her feel like her high school sweetheart did.
Carter Hayes left Heart’s Hope Bay the first chance he came across after not having the happiest of childhoods. Carter’s only regret was leaving the girl he had fallen for back in those days but he knew it was for the best. Now that Carter has returned to town though he didn’t expect to run right into Abby Engel and keep seeing her at every turn in the small town.
I always enjoy a good second chance romance since I know the characters have a history to build on and not feel like it is an instalove situation. I enjoyed getting to know Abby and Carter and felt sympathy towards both of their situations in the story. It did seem like this one waited until the last minute to wrap things up which left a question in my mind. Overall though it was an enjoyable read with likable characters and a great small town setting.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Thank you to Forever for the arc to read and review.
Second chance at love trope for two people who were high school sweethearts. Good book for a mindless beach read. Cute kid and older adult sub characters.
I love a second chance romance. This was incredibly sweet and steamier than expected. Proud owner of the Sunshine Corner daycare, Abby dreams of having her own children to care for someday. When ex-boyfriend Carter Hayes unexpectedly appears in town, it’s a reminder that despite their reignited chemistry after eleven years, his career remains top priority.
As the two pair up to tackle renovations at the daycare, I really loved their upfront communication with each other. Their playful fling was super fun, flirty, and kept me curious how it would arrive at a happily-ever-after.
As a mother myself, I loved the commentary on parenthood throughout this story. With Carter assuming a family and career can’t coexist, I liked the message of finding fulfillment even when plans go astray.
This had a great group of friends (and a spunky grandmother), which have their own conflicts featured throughout the story. I’ll be looking forward to seeing how they play out in book two!
This is a very fun second chance romance. I'm not usually a fan of "I want a family now" stories, but this one was cute and fun enough to overcome that. Abby and Carter had a typical first love relationship before breaking up before college. Abby came back to their hometown to live her dream of running a daycare and opening a preschool while Carter went out to live his dream of becoming an architect. But Carter has come back home to help his sister and the universe keeps putting him and Abby together. Can their attraction to each other help them overcome their differing life paths?
This book is a fun and enjoyable read that's perfect for the end of summer.
I enjoyed this sweet, small town romance, first time reading this author. It has all the ingredients for a mostly clean, light, fun romance....high school sweethearts meeting again, family dramas, cute little kids and good, supportive friends.
It was definitely a slow build story, and a bit predictable, but definitely a nice book to escape to for a few hours.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, my opinions are my own.
This book is was a wonderful breath of fresh air. I needed something light and easy and this book delivered. The House on Sunshine Corner is the debut novel and first in a new series from Phoebe Mils which follows Abby the owner of a daycare and Carter her high school sweetheart who returns to take care of his niece while his sister recovers from a car accident. It’s a typical second chance romance and there is nothing wrong with that.
I liked both Abby and Carter. Abby is a total mood and as someone who’s 27 and living at home while her friends get married and have children I found her very relatable. Carter in true romance hero fashion is an architect (because of course he is) and has a complicated relationship with his family. He felt very realistic and their relationship felt real. I do think that they needed to have a few more conversations about their plans for the future because they were not on the same page when the drama resolved.
In addition to Abby and Carter, the book introduced some wonderful side characters, some of whom will become main characters in future books and other who will continue to make up a wonderful supporting cast. I do think that some of the drama with the side characters’ pregnancies took too much page time and took away from the focus of the romance, so it will be interesting to see if that really was superfluous side drama or if it is the setup for a future book.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series (an enemies to lovers) when it comes out next year. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the ebook ARC and Forever for the gifted review copy.
The House on Sunshine Corner is a second-chance romance. Both the characters are more mature than their younger selves and ready to listen to one another. Learning to communicate is key to them learning how to navigate the second chance they have at a long-lasting relationship. I found this story to be uplifting and it left me with a smile on my face. My favourite character is Hilde, the grandmother, as she reminded me so much of my own grandmother. This novel is the first in a series and I look forward to reading the stories of the secondary character in this novel.
This is a heartwarming story centered around preschool owner, Abby Engel. She runs her business, Sunshine Corner, out of the house she shares with her grandmother. A second chance at love is offered when her high school sweetheart, Carter Hayes, returns to his hometown to help his sister, a single mother. His three-year-old niece attends Abby’s preschool, giving Abby the opportunity to see Carter as he drops her off in the mornings. Carter broke Abby’s heart in high school. Can they rekindle the love they had as teenagers? And will he convince himself that small town living is really what he wants? This is an easy, second chance romance that makes for a good weekend read! I look forward to more books in the series!
Thanks to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for giving me an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
How can I not help but like a book with a cheerful cover AND the word sunshine in the title? Abby is faced with her old boyfriend from high school who has come back to help his sister. His niece attends her childcare center. From the outset, the two seem incompatible. She wants hearth and home and he wants nothing to do with domesticity. Most of the novel revolves around their synergy with some peripheral characters chiming in. My favorite is grandma Hilde. She has the candor and cadence the story needed. Will Abby and Carter figure it out? Knock on the yellow door on the cover to discover for yourself.
This is a sweet second chance romance that holds your attention from the first page until the last. It's a wonderful start to a new series. If you like a Hallmark type story you will enjoy this book. This book is the perfect summer read! I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a complimentary copy from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
