Daily Magic is so much better than I imagined it would be! For some reason I was expecting a book with 365 little bits of magic you can do on any random day. What I got was a treasure trove of witchcraft lore for every single day on the calendar! The introduction provides a great foundation for the history of calendars and special, magical dates throughout the year. Then it is broken down by month, and each date has its own collection of correspondences, deities, special rites and rituals throughout witchy history, and ideas for infusing that particular day with magic. I really appreciated the depth and range of information provided in this book. I am really looking forward to using it as a daily magical bit of reading, and as a reference for planning special dates in the future. Yes -- very soon after starting this advance copy, I went online and pre-ordered my own physical copy, which will be filled with my own marked pages and notes!
I adore all of Judika’s books and this is no exception! Yet another fantastic and comprehensive overview of everyday magic. I would definitely recommend this book!
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I seriously love this. As a baby witch, this is a very insightful introduction full of spells that have details like when to perform them, where, and how long it will take. It's a great place to start on my adventure with more references in the back to continue on my journey
I’m a fan of Judika Illes’ books. This is no different. It’s a comprehensive book to help you make your year magical. This is one you’re going to need for your shelves to reference daily.
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced e-reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a lovely collection of ways to incorporate or create daily magic. This book is easy to read, easy to follow, and nicely written. It makes it feel so simple and intuitive. I also loved how this book sought to teach rather than just be read.
This book is going to be great for people either looking for some inspiration for things to incorporate into their calendar or to lift activities directly for yearly celebrations. Illes provides an activity or some magical inspiration for every day of the year from a variety of practices. It contains spells, correspondences, deity and saint descriptions, and folk stories to really power up your magical calendar. It's easy to read and understand, with many of the spells having easy to find ingredients. Overall, I think this would be a great resource for someone just starting out or looking for something new.
I love that this book is filled not just with little everyday rituals but the historic significance of the different dates. I think that these would be great to help develop daily practice and meditation skills. Some of the rituals could be adapted to allow for the inclusion in a yoga class and to help create a theme to build a class around.
This is a great reference for any practitioner. I didn't expect it to be a literal list of magic to perform every day of the year, but it does offer options and context for 365 days!
Judika Illes goes through every day in the western calendar year and explains in careful detail what magical, folkloric, and spiritual correspondences can be discovered. Her books are a pleasure to read and are great staples in any practitioner's bookshelf, and Daily Magic is no different. Daily Magic shows exactly how any moment can be magical by using the western calendar to harness the power inherent in every day. It thoughtfully contains spells, correspondences, folk stories, and deity and saint descriptions. This book could easily function as a daily ritual by starting your day reading what magical correspondence the day has in store. Additionally, it could be used for spell or holiday planning by reading about the weeks ahead. It extends well beyond the holidays of the Wheel of the Year and features several different cultures and belief systems. However, it would be near impossible for a book to capture every single magical element for every day of the year. Therefore, I still would recommend readers to venture beyond what is said in this book to create your own idea of a magical year. This book could best function as a starting point for creating your own calendar. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the magic in each month and I will definitely be adding this book to my personal collection.
This book is outstanding. It's is very detailed. Easy to read. Easy to navigate. Explains what is special and can be celebrated each day through a witches year. Loved it.
I’ve read many Judika Illes books over the years and from my experience this is one of her best works. This book has many sections and lot’s of great information. I enjoyed how diverse the holidays were and the summaries of each. This book also has a great amount of spells and magical workings that any magic user would enjoy. The spells are great for both beginners and experienced witches alike. This book would make a great companion to any calendar as it includes many special days throughout the year and will help you find a reason to celebrate the day.
Full to the brim of saints and angels and all good things, I'm showing my age here but this is the Hints from Heloise for the practical witch. Really she had me at "perpetual calendar." This is the grimoire you wish your great-grandma would have handed down to you. Festivals and feast days, the most powerful days for setting intentions, and the whys and wherefores behind our beliefs. Good stuff! Essential to any practitioner of magic.
This a fantastic book for anyone looking to add magic to daily life with some extra meaning and power. You can tell a lot of work went into making sure that the most could be made from the daily concept. I loved how the power behind each day was explored. I learned a lot both magical and otherwise regarding each day of the year. After giving it a read-through I will be going back and planning which days will hold the most power for my needs, and with the ease of the set-up if anything comes up unexpected, I know I'll be covered. A great book for all levels of practice.
This comprehensive guide is everything you need to make your year the most magical yet! Judika Illes is well known for her compendiums. This book is a compendium for the entire year with spells, important dates to know, and historical tid-bits that I found really fascinating. Everyday of the year something magical or magically significant has taken place. The author has clearly done a lot of research and put a lot of effort into making each day a chance to learn something new, or try something different. This is the kind of book that I know I will be going back to year after year. I can't wait to get my pre-ordered copy of this book!
Special thanks to HarperOne for providing me an advanced copy of this book to review
This book is packed full of great and new (to me) information. I am someone who is interested in saints, deeper understanding, and biblical history but really doesn’t know much. The format of this book allows for me to learn more and have a guided practice. However, it also allows for me to forget it for a couple of days and still find joy in it since it is dated. The novelty of something for every day is well done. I haven’t read all of the days, as I will do my best to work through them organically, but I have enjoyed every day I have come across.
Daily Magic is an excellent beginner's tool for finding positivity and flow with day-to-day life while imbuing it with magic and mindfulness. It is easy to follow, offering achievable spells that do not require much special equipment.
It's easy to imagine that using this for an entire year would make one more mindful of their surroundings, life, and intentions and bring peace and tranquility. This book would be a great gift to anyone practicing magic already or anyone who isn't. There's no need to practice the spells provided, and the context of the book could also be read as a daily meditation and education on the world around us.
Great book for beginners and super easy to follow! I enjoyed looking through and seeing everything that was offered, and will be happy to add it to my witchy books when it is released!
Daily Magic is a fun and beneficial way to add positive vibes daily. First off I didn't really understand how the current calendar was dreamed up. After reading of how the year was decided on the holidays actually made more sense to me, and also why my ancestors did what they did. The activities are very doable with common ingredients and available tools if needed. There is a spirit of the day. There is a Saint of the day. Then there are the magical things that can be done daily. What struck me was how logical the activities were and how doing them for a year will make life more peaceful, safe, and most important meaningful. This is an excellent book with lots of creative and traditional ideas . Just reading the spirit and said too the day makes it worthwhile yet alone all the fun things to do.
This book is very understandable for a beginner with great information for all levels of practitioners of magic.
