Jailbird. Klepto. Spectacular failure to launch. Nicole Wood’s sticky fingers have earned her many names, but it’s not that she’s stealing—some objects just need to be moved elsewhere, and the universe has chosen her to do it. Still, being a relocator of objects isn’t easy. With her marriage on the rocks, no real-world skills, and the threat of prison hanging over her head, Nicole is determined to change her ways.

Things seem to be looking up, thanks to a godsent job with her sister’s housecleaning business—until she encounters a seemingly harmless paperback that insists on moving from one client’s home to another’s. Nicole hopes no one will notice, but the action stirs up long-hidden secrets and triggers a series of fateful events that threatens to destroy the life she’s creating and hurt those closest to her. She’ll need to embrace her unwieldy gift and take a chance on love in order to unravel the mystery and fix what’s gone wrong.

HOLY MOLY!!! What an amazing book!! Has all the major componants of a fabulous story!! Betrayal, a little mysticism, romance, family drama, marital distress and a psycho - what more can you ask for!?? I would love to see this be the first volume in a series of Nicole's adventures. This is the second book that I've read of Ms King's and it's cemented her place on my auto pre-order list . Thank you to netgalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I love Kerry Anne King's writing!
She has a way of creating such realistic characters and situations, I think about them long after the story ends. And this book is no exception. The well crafted cast of characters are set amidst a suspenseful family drama and a bit of magic, or is it coincidence? You decide.
Fast paced and brimming with unexpected twists, this novel held my attention start to finish. Now I'm left to wonder, hopefully - could this be the beginning of a series?

You have to be lost before you can be found, and not only is Nicole Wood lost but the things she "finds" seem to be lost and asking to be placed in its correct spot. Everyone says Nicole Wood is a thief but she just can see it that way because she only takes things that ask to be moved. She claims she is helping people, so why is her life such a mess?
Loved the plot, writing was interesting, and characters likeable.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy.

Another great story told by Kerry Anne King. It pulled me in right away with it's storyline as King's other books have. I thought the character development was excellent. The drama, the mystery, the relationships that developed between the characters all kept me reading until the end. Definitely a good read!

This is an interesting and unusual book. Nicole is a thief although she doesn’t see it that way. She believes she rehomes items. Nicole is trying really hard to stop but the compulsion is too great when she sees a book at a house she is cleaning. At times you definitely have to suspend belief with the story but it is still very engaging. This book has a little bit of everything. There are definitely some quirky aspects and interesting characters that make this story even more compelling. This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last!

Nicole Wood has been labeled all of her life, by family and strangers alike. She is NOT a "klepto" that deserves a prison sentence or judgement, she is simply a mover of objects – she relocates things to where they most want and need to be. With her marriage falling apart, a potential prison sentence looming and nowhere left to turn, Nicole is going to show everyone, including herself, that she is a good person and not this criminal that everyone around her sees.
Everything is going well until she comes across an old paperback book while working for her sister's housecleaning business - it calls to her to be relocated and she indeed finds the perfect spot for it in another house and she feels that her work is done. However, that little relocation sets off a life-changing series of events for several people!
I loved all the elements in the story - romance, magic ,thriller, mystery. The characters were lovable and the story was fast paced and enjoyable. Great quick read! 4.5 stars!
Thanks to Kerry Anne King, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

I was not expecting to like the main character. I couldn’t understand how she wouldn’t acknowledged what she was doing was a little wrong whether it was stealing or not, but I grew to really like her. I loved the unusual friendships and how they came to be, the small romance, the fast pace, and the drama.

I think getting three POV from Nicole, Hawk, and Andrea was perfect for this book. The conflict between Nicole and her husband, as well as Andrea’s past added thrill and mystery to an already interesting plot. I was hooked and needed to see how everything was connected once we started to learn everyone’s backstory. Even though I wasn’t ready for it to end, I loved the ending.

Nicole Wood has a compulsion to "move things around"; everyone in her life simply calls it kleptomania. She has lost her husband, cannot hold a job, & is living with her mom when her sister takes pity on her and employs Nicole to work for her cleaning company with orders to TAKE NOTHING. Nicole's impulses cannot be ignored, and the book she takes causes hardship for herself, her family, and her best friend, but it also starts a chain of events that ends in justice and reuniting a family.

Other People’s Things is a genre defying story that pulled me in immediately. Nicole is a troubled young woman trying to start over after a long history of legal problems. She has a problem or, a gift (you decide) for knowing when an object needs to be moved. Only, those objects don’t always belong to her.

This story skillfully blends family drama, friendship, magical realism, an ex I loved to hate, mystery, a cinnamon roll private eye, and bit of romance. Nicole’s journey had me laughing, crying, broke my heart, and put it back together. I cannot recommend this enough!

On the back of “Other People’s Things” author Barbara Davis states that this book is “...woven with suspense, family drama, magic, and just the right touch of romance.” I was skeptical at first how all of this could possibly be true, but now that I’ve finished the book I realize it is all of that and so much more.

This is likely to be one of my favorite books of the year and I hope that it becomes a series or at least gets a sequel. I love the main characters so much!

“If I were to die tomorrow what would the universe do with all of its misplaced stuff?”

Nicole “Nickle” Wood has a problem, one that she has gone to all kinds of doctors to try to “fix” but the compulsion just won’t go away. It all started when she was six years old in Goodwill with her mother and a teddy bear beckoned to her. That bear needed to escape the store and be placed in someone’s arms, so she took it. But even though she swore the bear wasn’t for herself, when her family found out she stole it they forced her to return it. No one ever could have predicted what happened when the teddy bear didn’t reach its destination, her family created an imbalance of the fates and the result was a tragedy.

“I have far too many secrets that I want to hide from myself.”

Nicole gets impulses, almost a magnetic pull that something wants her to move it to a certain place. She’s come to refer to it as the “Object Relocation Program” It could be as simple as moving a sculpture to another room, or a book to another house. But, the repercussions are HUGE.

“I always tell the truth, but I pick and choose which truths I’m going to tell.”

Having this incessant need has caused her to spend many stints in jail. As well as at 30 years old she doesn’t have a home, an education and her marriage is failing. Worst of all, her family has HAD IT with her.

She has one last chance when her sister Roberta “Rob” offers to let Nicole work at her cleaning business. But how is this going to work out if something starts calling to her, which you know it does.

“What. Did. You. Do?”

Her husband is also on her heels for the $20,000 that she “stole” from him in order to give it to a unknown person she is waiting to run into.

“I am sick of my shit as they are, but I can’t see an end to it.”

“I feel like I’ve got five Jigsaw puzzles dumped out on the table and never had the boxes for any of them.”

At times heart-warming, others laugh-out-loud funny, at all times powerful—this book will have you binge-reading as if it were a thriller.

“Maybe you’re a catalyst. What you do sparks change.”

Other People's Things was my first book by Kerry Anne King and I really enjoyed her storytelling and characters!

Part mystery, family drama, second chances and a little bit of love and magic this book was a perfect escape!

𝙊𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚'𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 is a great story.
It follows 30 year old Nicole. She is somehow able to read the energy put out by inanimate objects that need to fulfill their fate by being given to someone else.
She moves an old paperback from one woman's house to another's and it starts a chain reaction that Nicole never could have predicted

Perfect pacing with a touch of magic and romance.

However, I'm hesitant to rate this higher because of its uninvolved and straightforward writing style. It prevented me from really immersing into the story.
I think it could have worked if the book had gone with a whimsical, lighthearted feel but instead it attempts to take on a number of very heavy topics and for me, the shallow writing didn't properly convey the deep subject matter.

Nicole Wood is a woman with a unique condition: she's compelled to take inanimate things that reach out to her and relocate them to where they tell her they need to go. This "relocation program" started when she was six and took a teddy bear from the thrift store, which she insisted was not for her but meant to be somewhere else.

Nicole has been arrested several times for shoplifting, and her family, who doesn't buy her relocation project story, is fed up with her behavior. Her marriage is in jeopardy, and she knows she'll end up in jail if arrested again.

Nicole's sister reluctantly hires Nicole to work for her housecleaning business. During her first week, Nicole cannot stop herself from taking a book from one home and leaving it at another. This action unleashes a series of events that snowballs with each uncovered secret with potentially serious consequences.

I read this book two sittings. King weaves heavier topics such as spousal abuse, substance addiction, and family trauma with mystery, romance, and a little magic to create a charming story that's a delight to read.

I adored the supporting cast of quirky characters, especially Nicole, and railed against the bad guys. The magical elements added a touch of fun and were believable. I've been trying to figure out if the book Nicole relocates, Dante's Inferno, was significant to the story but can only surmise that sometimes we all journey through hell before coming out on the other side.

Once I started OTHER PEOPLE’S THINGS by Kerry Anne King, I didn’t want to put it down. A remarkable mix of family drama, mystery, a touch of romance, and quite a bit of magic, this well-written novel has something for everyone. The quirky characters found a place in my heart and will live my memory for some time to come.
I must admit, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Nicole to start. She’s definitely not your typical main character, but I soon warmed up to her, especially when I saw how her family reacted to her and her “problem.” It is understandable, but it didn’t help her when she needed her family’s support. Of course, they would love her “perfect” husband who was supposed to save her, but I have to agree with her best friend and wonder, “why?” Nicole, better known as “Nickle,” has had a problem since she was six: she feels that objects project an energy when they are not in the right place and need to be re-located, which, obviously, has gotten her in legal trouble all her life. Her latest relocation was a large some of money that didn’t want to be in her husband’s desk, resulting in the demise of her marriage when her husband kicks her out, agreeing not to call in the police as long as she agrees to counseling. She moves home, gets once last chance at a job with her sister cleaning houses, a scary prospect for someone who feels compelled to move things, which, of course, does happen, setting off a surprising chain of events and bringing new people into her life, including Hawk and Andrea.
Nickle’s soon-to-be-ex hires Hawk, a PI his firm has worked with before, to follow her and help him find the company’s money she relocated. Despite his reservations about the guy, he takes the job, only to have more questions and a surprising reaction to his target. When they are thrown together again, Hawk realizes there is more to Nickle and the story and becomes an ally.
When a book connected to her past appears in Andrea’s house after it’s cleaned, her carefully held together life begins to unravel, and she needs to find out what Nickle knows and how everything fits together. Her secrets and resulting mental state are interesting to watch as the reader is immersed in the ripples of one of Nickle’s relocation projects.
King flawlessly weaves together the three different points of view in a storyline that will have you rooting for all three characters, but especially Nickle. I also love that in the process of telling the story, we see the different ways people react to her “gift” and how she becomes stronger and starts to take control of her narrative. I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Nickle and Hawk!
Pick this one up and settle in for a wonderful adventure. You will get so caught up you won’t want to put it down.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.

Everyone should read this book and I’ll tell you why.

This is a book filled with genres like magical realism, romance, and mystery written in such a way that I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I felt like I was reading one wonderfully cohesive story about a woman who thinks she is a burden and cursed but through an amazing array of characters learns that she is a blessing with a very special gift.

The author has written characters that will test your range of emotions from a manipulating husband to an understanding 70 year old texting social worker. I left this book excited, happy, and hopeful in our fellow humans.

I think the entire plot of this book is creative, well presented, and told in a well developed manner through different characters’ points of view.

The main character Nicole is inexplicably drawn to objects
that she feels must be re-homed. She does not steal them even though she has a pretty extensive rap sheet stating otherwise.

Nicole’s husband and family feel like they have given her one too many chances to change, but a Private Investigator, an anxiety ridden pharmacist, Nicole’s best friend, and a social worker may be exactly what Nicole needs.

This was such a delightful read. Powerful and relatable character development along with a sprinkle of mystery and how will it end.

The premise of this one is so unique. The main character Nicole has been "relocating other people's things" since she was 6 years old. For her, she staunchly believes that these things want to be moved. For her family and those around her, they just see her as a kleptomaniac. In her 30s and with her marriage falling apart, Nicole finds her life turned upside down when she "relocates" a book from one client's house to another.

This is just the magical tale to make you believe in second chances, fate and love.

I devoured this in one afternoon and highly recommend. Love the way the author wove a heartbreaking, yet hopeful tale.

I read "Whisper Me This" by
Kerry Anne King a few years ago & I really enjoyed it so when I discovered that her newest book, "Other People's Things" was available to review, I jumped at the chance to request it.
I loved everything about this book, the original storyline, the writing, the characters & the ending.
I would love this to be a 1st in a new series.
I can't wait to read what Ms. King decides to write next.

This is my favorite book by this author, Kerry Anne King, and I’ve liked the others I read a lot. This one touched me and I fell for this character; I adored Nickle-Nicole. I am so hoping she appears again. Please. And the narrator, Teri Clark Linden, voiced Nicole and the other characters perfectly. The storyline kept me hooked the whole way through! Must read/listen novel.

Nicole Ward’s sticky fingers have caused her to be called a variety of names, from Klepto to Jail bird, however she’s not stealing- some objects just need to be moved elsewhere and the universe has chosen her to help. With her marriage on the rocks Nicole has promised to change her ways. With help from her sister she has a new job, but things start to go wrong when a paperback keeps moving around clients homes causing problem she needs to fix

A book full of awesome characters, a sprinkle of magic and fantasy woven together with every day life, family pressures and marriage problems makes for an interesting read that I found difficult to put down as I wanted to keep reading til the end whilst at the same time not wanting to finish it.
I really enjoyed this book from Kerry Anne King and recommend it to others

Other People's Things is probably the most unique book I've read in 2021. I have never read a story quite like this one. The story revolves around Nicole who "relocates" things and never tells a lie. She has been in trouble for doing what she does even though she insists that it is NOT stealing. She meets several people throughout the course of the book that are directly related to her relocation of objects, and each one has a special connection to the story as a whole. There is some mystery, some romance, some drama.... all which made this book hard to put down. Extremely well written and more than worthy of 5 stars.

My sincere thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it.
