I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
These little fairies are very grumpy and don't want to do anything to help anyone else. They also refuse to listen when others try to share important information. This leads to them being caught by the goblin. They figure out how to save themselves by changing their attitude. This feels so good that they help everyone they hadn't on the way home. Will it last? Hard to say.
Terrific story to read as a family and talk about emotions and being able to change our attitudes. Young readers will relate to how these little fairies behave and recognize themselves at times.
A sweet and fun story about grumpy fairies learning the silver linings of being nice. It teaches kids the importance of helping and listening to others. The writing style is fun and the illustrations cute!
My favorite part about this book was the illustrations — they were terrific! I think the visual appeal of this book is strong. The purpose/message in emotional regulation is also valuable.
What a delightful story about some grumpy fairies who realize the consequences of their full time grumpy attitude. The illustrations are quirky and cute and the story is a good one to show how unappealing grumpiness is.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Young fairies are grumpy, and trolls like grumpy fairies, so they will get eaten if they don't act right??? I didn't care for this much.

This is a pretty cute children's book. Just like there's grumpy children, fairies aren't all good either, there are grumpy fairies. They wake up on the wrong side of the bed, cranky, unhelpful and sassy as can be. What happens when they discover a big troll loves the taste of the grumpiness of little fairies? Will they change?
I didn't expect to like this one but it is a lot of fun and I think young children will really identify with the grumpy fairies. The fairies are grumpy because they keep getting asked to do chores, the moan and stomp around in a way that parents and young children will recognize. They are so busy being grumpy that they forget to heed the message of the woodland animals to look out for the troll. This repetitive part of the book will work great as a read aloud as the children call out the warning each time. I think this one would be a firm favourite with my preschoolers.
Very beautiful illustrations.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher (Frances Lincoln Children's Books) and the author Bethan Stevens in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was cute story about young fairies who are sometimes grumpy and do not want to help out and get mad at everyone around them. I love how this can teach kids to find ways to get out of a grumpy mood, but it also shows that is can happen to anyone. I also love the illustrations. I think they are so cute.
Last night I read this story to my 3 year old daughter as a bedtime book, and today all she can talk about is grumpy fairies!! She’s looking in the yard and trees to see if she can spot any lazing around. I also mentioned to her once (when she wasn’t listening to what I asked) that she didn’t want to be like the grumpy fairies and she immediately understood and started to help. This is a cute little story with a clear message. It’s well written in a way that was engaging to young readers and gives a lasting little fantasy. 🧚🏼♀️ I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
An extremely nice book to teach small children what grumpy means and which is the impact of being grumpy. The association of fairies with the idea with grumpy might attract the attention of children.
When children are upset and grumpy, they need empathy and connection before solutions or suggestions. The small fairies in the book through their aspect and behavior are easily to relate to for a small child and maybe by adults who in schema therapy discover they have a grumpy Inner Child as well.
When we can connect with that intention to listen, empathize and resolve, we're more likely to then remember to slow down, breathe and become honestly aware of our feelings, body language and tone of voice. We may identify that we've reacted from feelings of powerlessness and anger. This is what this book does. It is very useful for the parents to remember to come back to the present moment when they are reading this to a child and for sure this might be beneficial for additional research.

The Grumpy Fairies is a hilarious book that lets us know it is okay to be grumpy at times! The fairies are extremely relatable, in fact I started laughing out loud the first time a fairy said “NO” and fell to the floor – this is the kind of week I have had. At that moment, I was that fairies!
I am always for book in my classroom that will help my children develop essential life skills and social-emotional is always a big one as we are not born knowing how to recognize, address and manage our emotions.
This book is very helpful and a great addition to any curriculums! I cannot wait to share this with my classroom.

Who knew fairies got grumpy too? I think this funny, relatable story will thrill kids and might even encourage some mischief... at least until the end of the book when the message is revealed.
This had such beautiful art, I enjoyed it so I know kids will have a blast combing through every image and investigating every creature inside!
I definitely recommend this one!

A funny story about some grumpy fairies. We all know fairies are good and sweet, but sometimes they can also be GRUMPY! A fun story filled with really cute artwork!
*Thanks Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
I was giggling the entire time! As a fellow grump, I related to these cute little fairies! I think little kids can relate to being grumpy and not understanding why they need to help with chores. But in the end, it shows that even grumps like to help and enjoy helping others. It was an adorable book with cute illustrations!
Such a fun and entertaining read!
Will definitely keep child curious an occupied,
I liked the illustrations and message, that you can't feel grumpy all the time!
I received an advance copy of, The Grumpy Fairies, by Bethan Stevens. This is a cute story of how attitude affects your life, even for little grumpy fairies.
Review to come to blog April 15th and a bit later on Goodreads/other places.

I was immediately intrigued by the title, grumpy fairies? Most books about fairies have the fairies be happy, shiny, giggly, glittery. I think I have read a couple with fairies having different emotions, but general consensus for books seem to have them happy. So I was eager to get to read (plus that art was just adorable).
In this book we meet the fairies. Who live in a beautiful tree village in beautiful soft yellow/brown colours. Most of the fairies are happy and helpful, but we meet a group of tiny fairies who is GRUMPY, who DON'T want to help, who just want to lie around and grump. I had a big laugh about this grumpy group, especially since they had to drag some of their group along. Haha. And I just LOVED their facial expressions. Yep, these fairies are deep into grumpy mood!
During their walk outside they meet all sorts of animals who are all sugary sweet and the fairies have none if it. Which was kind of rude, but I also could relate. Haha, I know that if I am in a grumpy mood you shouldn't talk to me, especially not with sugar and sweetness. But I do would have liked to see the birds/animals understand a grumpy mood and I would have liked the grumpy fairies to listen, even if just a bit.
I do worry a bit about the message this one gives. I mean, kids are going to be grumpy, adults are going to be grumpy. Yes, it is not a nice thing if done daily, but sometimes people just need to grump out. To threaten grumpiness with being eaten is a bit too far for me. Everyone is allowed to have grumpy days without having the threat of being nommed on. Maybe me. But it feels like you HAVE to be happy and good and all that. Maybe I just see the message wrong, but it is how it came across to me. Plus, hello, I would also turn a bit grumpy if everyone around me was 24/7 happy and sparkly and helpful. Haha. I mean even the animals are all syrupy and sweet.
I did love the art though! The expressions, the colours, how despite the grump everything is soft and fluffy in colours.
So I am a bit conflicted. Great art, love that there are grumpy fairies, but I just don't like the whole you are being eaten if you are not sweet and helpful message.
The pictures are cute, the concept is cute, but too much cuteness and too much of a heavy hand can make for what looks like a cleaver book, see a little off.
The basic concept is that child fairies are sometimes too grumpy to be helpful fairies. So what changes them is not that they get ungrumpy, but that they realize if they remain that way, they will be eaten.
So, they become helpful fairies, and that saves them.
see what I mean about being heavy handed?

Such a cute book with great illustrations! It will definitely help children understand that life is better when you’re kind, not grumpy!
