This book was received as an ARC from William Morrow and Custom House in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I am a fan of D.L. Hughley and can see why he is a King of Comedy. Now more than ever with the pandemic and the events of the death of George Floyd that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement, people need some comedy in their lives and use them as a shield of hatred. I love the approach Hughley took with this book and while I was reading, I could not help but think of Chris Rock's character Mays Gilliam in Head of State and how he made his speech and kept repeating the words "that a'int right!" Reading all of the statistics compared to the white population and hear they have to live and deal with that is very heartbreaking and D.L. brilliantly uses humor to diffuse the situation and how it is never a crime to look out for yourself and most importantly take care of yourself. I know this book will do very well in our library collection.
We will consider adding this title to our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
