False Witness by Karin Slaughter is nothing short of exceptional. As someone who has read all of her books, I can confidently say she has never let me down. The plot in this one is gripping from start to finish, filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are complex and well-developed, making it easy to get invested in their journeys. Slaughter’s storytelling is sharp, emotional, and, as always, highly engaging. If you haven’t picked up one of her books yet, *False Witness* is an excellent place to start. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thrilling, emotional ride.

Very exciting book! There were some cringe moments that I didn’t want to keep reading and thrilling moments I couldn’t get through fast enough. I love Karin Slaughter books and this book is why I read her books. I recommend this book to thriller readers that don’t mind being a bit uncomfortable when reading.

I'm a big fan of Karin Slaughter and welcomed this standalone book. Callie and Leigh were raised in poverty at the hand of a abusive mother. While babysitting, Callie is sexually and physically abused by the father of the young boy she's watching. While defending herself she wounds him and calls her sister to come and help her escape. When Leigh realized what has happened to her sister, she kills the man. Both girls deal with their guilt differently. Leigh escapes to college and law school to become a prominent attorney while Callie sinks into addiction. Years later the son, Andrew has been arrested on sexual assault and wants Leigh to defend him - all while blackmailing for what the sisters did as children. This is gripping and disturbing and heartbreaking.

It's no secret that I love Karin Slaughter's books, and this one might be my favorite. Leigh is a fairly successful defense lawyer, but she's a relative "small fry" in her large firm. So when she is singled out by one of the partners to take over a high profile client's case as a last minute substitution, Leigh is pleased, but surprised that he even knows her name. Then she discovers who the client is. This discovery brings up old secrets and nightmares.

This is Slaughter at her best -- intriguing characters with complicated stories that tug at a reader's emotions, plot lines that are easy to follow and understand yet filled with twists and turns that keep readers guessing, storilines that seamlessly incorporate current issues and events, and an ending that both shocks and satisfies. I could not put this book down. I just wanted to sit and read all day! Well done!!

Due to the length, I ended up listening to the majority of this book on audio. The audio was really good, but I think this book could have been much shorter and it could have been so much better. I enjoyed how descriptive some of the more gorey parts were, but some points were so drawn out that it almost took away from the plot for me. This was another case of the plot having a lot of potential but being too drawn out that I ended up getting bored and speeding up the audio to just hear how it ends.

Karin Slaughter is my go to for dark twisty crime dramas. Her books will continue to be on auto buy for my personal library.

False Witness is set during the COVID pandemic when Leigh Collier, defense attorney, is told to represent a man accused of rape. The accused rapist, Andrew Tenant, requested Leigh as his attorney and knows her from a past life. She has an arduous task of getting up to speed in a week before the trial and solicits help from her estrange sister Callie. This chilling and fast paced thriller pulls you in from page one.

I love, love, love Karin Slaughter's books. However, I really struggled with this one. I think it was not the book itself, but me. I was so sick of the pandemic that I couldn't really enjoy this book due to the pandemic details. I know that is silly, but it was just I wasn't in the best place to read a pandemic book yet. I know that I will probably reread this book in the future and be able to appreciate the writing and subject more than I do now.

this was good, it was a bit too similar to her other two novels that aren’t in her series. i kinda wish the author would take a different approach but good regardless.

This is another very solid entry into Slaughter's series. I'm afraid she's going the route of the Bones series, I still generally prefer her one shot titles.

Karin Slaughter never disappoints with her books having lots of twists & turns. This book is no different, The main character, Leigh Collier, has a secret that someone has uncovered & is attempting to use to have Leigh do something that goes against her ethics as a defence attorney. A very page turning book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of False Witness by Karin Slaughter. All opinions are my own.

Karin Slaughter is one of the authors that truly kills me with all of her books. She digs in deep where it hurts but also traps me from page one. False witness was no different. Gritty, hard to read and twisty, this book has it all.

This thriller by Karin Slaughter was intense. Lee is an attorney working for a high powered law firm. A client makes a request of the law firm that Lee represent him in his defense against a brutal rape charge. When she meets the client, Lee's world comes crashing down as she is forced to face demons from her past. The case will endanger everyone in Lee's life as she tries to find her way out of a nightmare.

I was given an ARC of False Witness by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

As always I enjoyed Slaughter's novel. There were moments, however, that I got bored with the 'preachy' passages. I liked the ending - it was interesting.

I’ve been a fan of Karin Slaughter for years and have read the majority of her novels. False Witness, a standalone, was a slightly different departure from her usual writings. Less graphic and brutal, but no less impactful, False Witness focuses on two sisters and the aftermath of events in their childhood. Set during the pandemic, this novel was less violent but so heartbreaking.

False Witness proves why Karin Slaughter is on of my favourite authors. This intense thriller handles tough topics such as sexual abuse, drug addiction, mental health and Covid-19 with brutal honesty. The characters are well written and believable. This is her best stand alone novel causing me to gasp after each chapter. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.

Leigh and Callie grew up with a difficult childhood. Leigh has mostly overcome it as a successful attorney, but Callie is an addict. Then a client seeks out Leigh and all of the past comes out. Twists and turns including the pandemic in the background keep you on the edge of your seat. ARC from NetGalley.
