I actually changed plans so I could stay home and finish this. I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter and this one was one of my faves!
I absolutely love Karin Slaughter and this book doesn't disappoint. The book hooked me from the first (traumatic) chapter. Karin Slaughter does it again and writes another amazing book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
I LOVE Karin Slaughter and it pains me to say that I did not love False Witness. Callie and Harleigh are sisters who suffered from significant abuse as teens. They are also tied to Andrew Tenant (who they babysat for as teens) and Leigh is now defending him against rape charges. Andrew, however, knows something about the sisters that he uses against them in a cat and mouse game. Andrew is a horrible, despicable, sleazy character who uses Callie's opioid addiction and Leigh's love of her family to exploit them.
This book was good, but not great like I've come to expect from Slaughter. First, while I know the current COVID crisis is on everybody's minds, I don't want to necessarily read about it in depth. There is too much discussion about wearing masks, sanitizing, distancing, etc. I read to escape - I don't need a constant reminder that we're in the middle of a pandemic. Also, I swear there were probably 20 mentions of Callie going to meet Kurt Cobain that it really started to get annoying.
I will always read Slaughter, but was disappointed in this book. It just didn't have the usual punch that I'm used to.
Callie and Harleigh have lived with devastating secrets for twenty years, secrets that have caused them to look around every corner and behind every decision with fear and dread. In Karin Slaughter’s latest book, those hidden tortures are revealed in the author’s trademark rip-off-the-bandaid way that her readers have come to understand as truth to be dealt with. The situations are dire and rich, the dialogue the same. This stand-alone novel will keep you reading beyond your bedtime to the finish, and what a finish it is. Slaughter enters the world of true justice outside of courtroom deals and defending the guilty as only a novelist can. False Witness satisfies your sense of justice and breaks your heart at the same time, just like real life.
Once again, Karin Slaughter has written a work of art, weaving the story of two sisters and their childhood trauma into a compelling drama. I did not want to out this down from the moment I started reading.
Another exciting book from Karin Slaughter. This is the kind of writing other authors try to achieve, but fail at. Might be hard to read by victims of sexual violence. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
Unbelievably tense and riveting, FALSE WITNESS by Karin Slaughter, left me gasping for air while unable to stop reading. The best analogy I can offer is something akin to a carnival ride that morphs into a high-speed roller coaster in the middle of a fun house filled with distorted mirrors. From the opening scene to the last, there are more twists and turns than readers can easily imagine. For lovers of serious thrillers, this one offers real punch with amazingly accurate current day issues. I refuse to offer more info because I don’t want to ruin this book. I’m sorry so much has already been offered online and glad I didn’t indulge before reading. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. It’s worth it. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
I knew this would be good, given the author, but I had no idea how it would keep me on the edge of my seat. I kept putting it down at the end because I was so anxiety ridden and I didn’t want it to end. Leigh and Callie are haunted by their childhood, and it all comes full circle in an amazing story! I don’t want to give away anything, but be sure to read the authors note at the end. Very timely and heartfelt.
Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite authors. This book is so good. The characters were really believable.. The sisters loved each other. It was a bittersweet story of their suffering because of something they did years ago. I couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend it.
