A great Christmas read! Mary Kay Andrews delivered a delightful gift with this book. Ivy had lost the joy of Christmas.. Buying the farmhouse and making it her home brought her back to enjoying life and Christmas. The santa suit found in a box was a redeemer for both Ivy and Ezra. Ivy's venture touched the lives of many. Bringing joy to others is what Christmas is all about!
The Santa Suit is a novella that's basically a mini Hallmark movie wrapped up on page. It started out pretty interesting and I was enjoying it, but about halfway through, it took a tumble and never recovered. Ivy is a character that seems incredibly strong at first, but later she just lets everyone walk all over her. I suppose it's all in the spirit of Christmas, but I think I'd rather leave the corny Christmas stories to the Hallmark channel, because trying to read it as a book was incredibly underwhelming.
This was a fun read. It was like reading a, Hallmark movie where the ending is happy. The characters were fun and enjoyable. I don't like books with large amounts of swearing in them so it was nice to find this one wasn't filled with 4-letter words.. It had a hint of mystery and also romance and was just an all around easy read type of book. . Towards the end the story picked up pace a bit fast and it crammed a lot into the last couple of chapters. If I had anything negative to say it would be that I think the story could have been drawn out just a little more so as not to rush the reader to the happy ending.
Such a fun story to read at the holidays. Ivy is newly divorced and has decided to make a huge change in her life. She buys an old farmhouse she found online without ever seeing it. When she moves in - coming from Atlanta to a small town - she starts to meet an interesting group of characters spurred on by a note she finds in a Santa suit in her new closet.
Predictable and lovely is how I would describe this book. Definitely put me in the Christmas spirit!
All the makings of a Hallmark Christmas movie....small town, heartwarming romance with a little mystery. This novella centers on Ivy Perkins, a recent divorcee, who buys an old farmhouse in North Carolina, sight unseen. On her first night there, she discovers a Santa Suit and within it's pocket is an old, handwritten letter to Santa from a young girl. The letter touches Ivy's heart and leads her down a path to discover if the girls wish came true.
I've read some Mary Kay Andrews books in the past and enjoyed those so was looking forward to reading this one. I was not disappointed and enjoyed this quick, lighthearted read. At just over 200 pages, you can easily read this in a day. Because it is a short read, there is some limited depth to the characters and the relationship between Ivy and Ezra, her realtor, moves a bit fast. I would have liked to see more of a build-up, or angst, to their relationship. They just seemed to go from Buyer/Realtor to lovers a bit quickly without much transition. That said, it was an entertaining read with focus on friends and family and the miracles that only seem to occur at Christmas time.
I recommend this to readers looking for a lighthearted, heartwarming holiday story.
started this novella right after finishing a Christmas novel i absolutely didn't like, and guess what it has restored my faith in Christmas books again. its warm, fuzzy and glowy in all the right places. Its a story of a woman and a town and hopes and dreams. Not necessarily a romance so you have been warned but there is a romantic subplot anyway. It really was the perfect holiday read, so much so i finished this in one sitting!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy of The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews in exchange for an honest review. It published September 28, 2021.
This was the perfect novella for Christmas time. I was able to squeeze this one in at the end of Christmas, and it gave me all the good feels I was looking for! For a novella, I really fell in love with the farm house, the characters, the towns and the relationships. I am really hopeful that MKA writes more with these people who feel like home to me!
I did not read a synopsis of The Santa Suit before picking it up. All I knew was that it was Christmas related (and therefore, most likely a romance) and it was by Mary Kay Andrews. I was sold. Of course, the author did not disappoint.
Ivy Perkins moves from a big city to a small town into a townhouse that she's never even laid eyes on. She's newly divorced and somewhat struggling to find work. She didn't know what to expect, but it definitely wasn't a house where many different things are broken or not working, a moving van that has trouble bringing her all of her furniture, or old owners who don't want any of their things.
When she finds an old Santa suit in the closet, she also finds a note from a little girl. She decides she wants to figure out the story behind this little girl and what she has become. She did this and along the way made new friends and met a new love interest (I knew there'd be romance!)
I really loved the storyline. It was easy to read and super sweet. I do think the ending tied things up a little *too* nicely, but that's just a personal style choice. Quick, easy, holiday read (though you could read it whenever truly) and I would definitely recommend.
This was a cute 3.5 star read for me.

From the cover to the story, The Santa Suit is a delight. It is the perfect book to kick off the holiday season and a perfect gift for a friend. Here’s hoping Hallmark turns it into a movie too!
Thank you to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book pairs very well with Hallmark Christmas movies, which was just the way I decided to indulge in this cute Christmas tale. Like Hallmark plots, this story was missing substance that would make this feel like a tremendous Christmas story I would recommend to my friends to real, but sadly this one felt flat. The romance felt very rushed and nothing happened to really improve the likeability of the cast. Thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for a gifted copy of The Santa Suit!
A cute, feel-good, festive read. It was short and sweet, and maybe a little predictable. I enjoy reading Mary Kay Andrews books, and this one was a fun Christmas book. It took awhile to get into however. I would have loved more of a romance focus between Ivy and Ezra, but the the Santa suit storyline was very heartwarming.
Ivy moves to am old farmhouse to restart her life. She is not very nice to what turns out to be her realtor, Ezra. He tries to be helpful but she is really not having it at first. She was kind of hard to like at points since she was getting mired down with her laundry list of things to do with the house. She seemed really goal oriented which is not a bad thing, but was putting off the kindness of others at points because of it. Phoebe was nice, but had her own issues. Ezra was very nice and seemed interested. Ivy, not so much at first. She did kind of warm up but would blame him for her buying a house without first inspecting it. There were some interesting things that came out when Ivy started to explore the house. She discovered that the previous owner, Bob, would dress up as Santa for years. She finds his suit and discovers a letter in the pocket from a little girl asking for her father's safe return home from the war. Ivy sets out to try and find out what happened to the little girl and her father. She soon discovers that Phoebe's mother knows some of the answers and gets some more information which leads her to the little girl's grandfather. She befriends the 96-year-old and tries to give him some friendship. There were some surprises in store for Ivy and others. The ending was kind of short and I was hoping for a bit more.
I received a book for review by the publisher through NetGalley. My opinions and review are my own.
What a delightful holiday read! I loved it! It was a warm and comforting read about a small town and the people in it. A lovely but old farmhouse and a woman looking to start over who finds her heart and new love at Christmas time, all because of a vintage Santa Suit!
Light story about the magic of Christmas. When Ivy Perkins moved from Atlanta to a deserted farmhouse in a small town, she is escaping her past life and her divorce. The house she buys was known as the Christmas house. In the house, she finds a letter from a child tucked into the pocket of a Santa suit. When searching for the person who wrote the letter many years earlier, she meets some people who will change her life. She becomes Involved with her realtor, Ezra.
All works out in this easy, quick story. Perfect for Christmas.
Thanks to #NetGalley! #TheSantaSuit
I absolutely adored The Santa Suit, a Christmas themed romance sure to give you all the Hallmark holiday vibes!!
Ivy Perkins is looking for a fresh start after a recent divorce and decides to buy the Four Roses Farmhouse sight unseen. Once she arrives she undoubtedly has her work cut out for her but she soon finds out the charm and history of the Four Roses Farmhouse and its Christmas tradition's are deeply ingrained in the small town community. With the help of her realtor Ezra and new found friend Paige, Ivy will soon grow to be inspired by the traditions of the little community and create a small Christmas miracle of her very own. Little does Ivy know how this community would be the exact fresh start she was looking for!
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review the Santa Suit!
I absolutely loved the Santa Suit. MKA has a writing style that is just amazing. I wanted more! So many different characters with intertwined stories. The perfect story to kick off the holiday season.
SUPER cute fun read! I loved this book. It was a feel good story that was just plain enjoyable! Thank you
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Mary Kay Andrew’s for the ARC to review. This was a cute Christmas quick read. All the characters are like able. I thought the plot would be predictable, however, I was quite happy with the way the story developed and ended. A real feel good book.
This was a sweet, quick little story, perfect to finish on Christmas Eve. It was just like reading a Hallmark Christmas movie. I loved how Ivy wanted a fresh start and it all fell together so perfectly for her. Usually there's some sort of major turmoil and then it wraps up nicely, but this was just a great feel-good story with an unexpected twist. It was exactly the Christmas story I was looking for.
