"When Sparks Fly" offers an engaging blend of romance and humor. The characters have charming moments, creating a relatable connection for readers, but some may find their development a bit predictable and the plot line somewhat clichéd. The chemistry between the protagonists is palpable, and several witty exchanges bring light to the story. However, the pacing occasionally drags, especially in the middle chapters, which can detract from the overall enjoyment.
While it's a pleasant read for those looking for a light-hearted romance, it may not leave a lasting impression. Fans of the genre will likely appreciate the familiarity of the narrative, with a friends-to-lovers trope... making it a solid choice for a leisurely afternoon read, but don’t expect it to break new ground in the romance category. Overall, "When Sparks Fly" is entertaining, but it falls just short of being truly memorable.
This is a perfect fit for readers who adore lighthearted, emotional, and humorous romances that explore the ups and downs of friends-to-lovers relationships, caregiver dynamics, and the thrill of forbidden attraction, all set against a backdrop of forced proximity and second chances.
Did I think this was Helena's best book she wrote? No I didn't. Did I still enjoy it? Yes I did! When reading a friends to lovers book, it always seems a little predictable to me and unfortunately that is exactly what I felt when reading this book. I still thought it was an enjoyable and cute read.
This was a fun book, rather predictable but had alot of fun elements to it. I would like to read the other books in this series.
Thank you for a review copy of this book. This book was amazing!!!! I loved me a good friends-to-lovers story and this one checked very box for me! I loved how the author explored the concepts around a friend group as well as how those dynamics change when some of the friends become more. I enjoyed the development of their relationship from friends-to-lovers. It was slow and angsty. I also liked how it was not a smooth transition, but had some bumps along the way. I believe that made it more realistic for the reader. The pacing and writing were well done. I just flew through this book and finished it in less than a day! Overall, I would recommend this book and I will be looking forward to more books to this series!
I loved this book! A best friends to lovers story is always so fun to read because there’s so much love and history to build on. Declan’s character development was exciting to see and I loved his care-taking personality.
When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting is Avery and Declan story and when they meet Sparks definitely fly. They friendship turns to so much more and they are in for unforgettable journey.
A Must Must read for all readers.
Look, I don't like hurt-comfort or groveling, but this was bad. Avery's not like other girls, and spends almost the whole book disparaging and insulting the hero. There was no emotion
This was such a fun read but I also felt it brought a lot of other emotions in the story as well. It tugged at my heartstrings, made me laugh out loud and i really enjoyed the witty banter.
I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience. Note: I ended up purchasing a final copy to read in the future.
When Sparks Fly is the first book in the Spark House series. This book is about Avery and Declan, and is told from both of their points of view. Avery and Declan are best friends and roommates.
Something happens and Declan feels like it is his fault, and he wants to be there to help Avery. As Declan is helping Avery sparks start to fly between the two.
After Avery is better what will happen to their relationship? If their relationship doesn't work out how will it effect their living situation? Will Avery and Declan get their happy ending, or will they realize they are better off as friends?
I thought the premise of this book was so cute. I love a good caretaking romance, and this started so promising. Their relationship development was pretty cute. However I hated the third act breakup and the way Declan reacted so much, that I wasn’t even rooting for them at that point. I do appreciate him going to therapy and working on his issues. Overall I didn’t love this one.
I enjoyed this book. TI haven’t read a lot from this author butmi surely will now. This book just about had me laughing so hard I almost fell off my treadmill. Hilarious. It’s got humour, sarcasm and romance. What more could you ask for? Loved it
Main character Avery Spark is a woman fully immersed in the joys of family, friendship, and the vibrant energy of Spark House, the event hotel owned by her family. Avery's life takes an unexpected turn when a car accident leaves her in need of care, propelling her into the arms of her best friend, roommate, and self-professed playboy Declan. As they navigate the delicate balance between friendship and burgeoning romance, their connection deepens in ways they never anticipated.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin and author Helena Hunting for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book.
You can never go wrong with a Helena Hunting book. And When Sparks Fly is no exception. This best friends to more story is heartfelt, touching, and will leave you with a smile on your face.
Helena knows how to make a reader laugh but she also knows exactly how to pull you into your feels and emotions.
Another excellent read from this author.
I am just the biggest fan of Helena Hunting (especially her pucked series) so naturally I was thrilled to dig into this new series.Huntings books always have the perfect amount of spice and angst and you just won't want to put this one down.
I enjoyed this book!!! I love her hockey series. I fell in love with her writing and this is no exception. It's a must read!
Great story, will pick up her new work in the future . I enjoyed the characters, and the flow of the story.
I enjoyed this friends to lovers story, though the final conflict felt a little contrived.
Three stars.
*I received a review copy from the publisher/author via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*
When Sparks Fly was more emotional and less humorous that I’m used to from Helena Hunting, but I absolutely eat up friends to lovers so I really enjoyed it. I do have minor pet peeve though because it’s dual POV, but with significantly more chapters from the FMC.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my chance to review.
