I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of Out of Sight, the seventh novel to feature DCI Warren Jones, set in the fictional Hertfordshire town of Middlebury.

When a body is found under a bridge Warren and the team start an investigation, but with the teeth smashed and fingertips removed identification is only their first problem. Their investigation is hampered by secrets and lies.

I thoroughly enjoyed Out of Sight, which is another engrossing police procedural with a hard won solution and the uncovering of several other crimes along the way.

The novel is told entirely, apart from the prologue, from the investigative point of view so the reader can pit their wits against the killer along with the team. Not that I had much success. I got some points sooner and found the slowness to enact some obvious lines of enquiry frustrating, but, on the whole, there were too many viable suspects to settle on a “favourite”. I liked this doubt and the slow unpeeling of lies to cover other crimes and misdemeanours. I particularly liked the interviews at the end where the suspect and his accomplices aren’t as smart as they think they are. I thought it was a masterclass in giving them enough rope. I was also impressed by the amount of space the author devoted to it - too often in fiction an arrest is the end of the story - and the twists he inserted. It is a plausible tale of lies catching liars out.

The plot is the thing in this novel so the characterisation isn’t particularly strong. The plot is self contained and the only thread is some events in Warren’s private life which carry on through the series. These are not earth shattering issues for anyone but him and provide some continuity between the novels. They are well enough explained that any reader could pick up the series with this one and not feel that they have missed something.

Out of Sight is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

I found this book rather slow and confusing. It was like a paper chase with mobile phones. I did finish it but didn't find it enjoyable

Ok so I haven't read the ones before this one! I usually wait to read books like this so I can read them in order! I know I'm weird. But I did not do that with this book! I went ahead read it!
I don't think I missed anything by not read the others before.
But overall this was a really good police procedural suspense book!
I felt it to be a tad slow.... But it got good around the middle!
But other than that I'd recommend this to a family member or a friend it was good!

This was another good read from Paul Giltsham in the DCI Warren Jones series, although it can be read as a stand alone. I like the characterisation and the interesting mix of characters. The book is well written with an interesting plot and moves at a steady pace, There are plenty of surprises as the team investigate the brutal murder of a man estranged from his family. Warren digs deep and everything becomes a bit murky as the investigation proceeds. I would recommend this book and the series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This is one of my favorite police procedural series and it immediately went to the top of my TBR list.
I read it in one afternoon and, WOW, I wasn't able to put it down, turning pages as fast as I could.
It's gripping and highly entertaining story, full of twists and turns and the solution was as complex as the plot and satisfying.
The character development is excellent, you can feel the empathy of the author toward the victim and I was happy to catch up with the characters.
Mr Gitsham is an excellent storyteller and he delivers a fast paced story.
I can't wait to read another story in this series, this one is highly recommended.
