Really enjoyed this twisty, fast-paced thriller by the excellent Lisa Jewell. This author knows how to write an interesting plot, develop complex characters, and weave in twists and turns all while writing in different timeframes which at first appear unrelated but which come together in a satisfying ending. Kept me guessing throughout. You really can’t go wrong with a Lisa Jewell novel. 5 stars! The Night She Disappeared is out on July 22.

Thanks to Random House UK and Netgalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh this really was a good read. Lisa Jewell always writes a good book and this was no different. Although it just might have been even better than usual. I've just spent an entire Sunday sitting in the garden with breakfast, then lunch, then afternoon coffee and then a glass of wine as I couldn't put my kindle down. I've rushed to finish so I can at least feed my husband some dinner!! Combining a world of privilege with a more normal, down to earth village, involving teenage parents, young people exploring their sexuality, a private boarding school, a mum who knows her daughter wouldn't leave her own baby son and bringing it all together a crime novelist who moves to the area. I had no clue what the outcome was going to be, whether Tallulah and Zach were dead or alive, right until the truth was revealed. Shocking and twisted, Lisa Jewell has another hit on her hands. #netgalley #thenightshedisappeared

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you're a fan of Lisa Jewell's books then you will definitley love her latest novel. I absolutely love The Family Upstairs and rave about how it is my favourite one by her, but now I think I have a new favourite! Like many of her books it's definitely bingeworthy and one that I struggled to put down because I just had to know what was going to happen!

19 year old Tallulah and her boyfriend are going on a much needed baby free date. They dote on their baby but they need a night off as many parents do. Her mother Kim agrees to babysit for the young parents and waves them off as they leave for the local pub. But as it gets later and later Kim becomes concerned, they haven't come back yet. And as night turns into morning she is terrified as to what could have happened to her daughter. She knows she would never willingly leave behind her son for that long. But they never return.

Fast forward over a year later detective novelist Sophie sees a sign in the woods that seems familiar.... dig here.

Little does she know her curiosity to follow the signs instructions opens up the cold case into Tallulah and her boyfriend's disappearance and with it all the dark secrets that were buried. But someone knows the truth, and Sophie is about to unearth a secret that sets it all into motion.

Told from multiple timeline POV's you slowly discover what really happened that night. A really interesting who-dunnit that will keep you turning the pages for each sordid detail.

Initially I found it hard to get into this novel, but once I did I was hooked. It is the kind of book that you wake up thinking about, wondering what will happen next.

It is set in both 2017, when a young couple disappear, leaving behind their small son and 2019, when the author of detective novels moves the area and uncovers a clue to their disappearance which draws her into trying to solve the mystery. We see the anguish of the missing girl's mother, as well as her frustration at having her life curtailed by having to bring up her grandson single-handed, much as she loves him. There are a lot of red herrings and unfolding relationships along the way, all handled brilliantly by Jewell.

A gripping read. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a review copy.

The story is centred around the disappearance of 19 year old Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach told from several different points of views and timelines that work really well to give the full picture of the story as it unfolds.

Kim Tallulah's mum is literally left holding the baby whilst fighting to know what happened to her daughter knowing she'd never abandon her baby son Noah.

A story full of complex relationships that draws you in from the beginning only to take you deeper and deeper as the story develops.

A suspenseful emotive read.

Another brilliant book from Lisa Jewell.
This is a great story that will definitely have you racing through the pages to find out what happened to Tallulah and Zach.
Tallulah is at college and lives with her mum, her boyfriend Zach and their baby, Noah.
We find out that Tallulah and Zach have not come home after a rare night out together and Kim is beside herself with worry.
People are telling her that she just wanted some space but Kim knows her daughter is devoted to her son, and would never just disappear.
The Police look into the disappearance but don’t get anywhere, but Kim won’t give up.
A year later Shaun and Sophie move into a house nearby when he takes on the head teacher role. Sophie spots an unusual piece of cardboard on the fence which simply says, ‘Dig here.’ What she finds leads her to start investigating the disappearance of Tallulah and Zach.
Kim is still in touch with the Detective on the case and it’s reopened following the new information.
This is a gripping mystery thriller that has chapters from then and now and I loved the way it all pulled together to create a very cleverly written thriller.
I highly recommend this book.
Thanks to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Lisa Jewell is back with a bang. This book had me gripped from the get go. I found this really easy to read and the characters either loveable or creepy. This is a really satisfying thriller. No questions are left unanswered and it’s done in the Lisa Jewell style that we all love. This book had me hooked! It’ll be the sell out of the summer.

I started reading this book late one night and didn’t want to put it down. The following day I picked it up again at about 14% and literally didn’t put it down.

This is a fabulous thriller which centres around the disappearance of Tallulah and her on/off boyfriend Zach who is also father of he young son Noah. Tallulah is an intelligent young lady who got pregnant very young but who is loving motherhood and trying to complete her studies to ensure a good future for her and Noah. Tallulah & Zach go for a night out but never return. Tallulah’s mother insists that she hasn’t run away and wouldn’t leave her son deliberately.

Over a year later as a new head teacher and his girlfriend move into the house allocated at a local private school, small clues relating to the missing person investigation start appearing and the case is reopened.

I needed to know what happened to the two youngsters and literally turned the pages as quickly as I could. The story just got better and better and came to a superb and brilliant ending! Definitely a page turner.

Lisa Jewell delivers a story filled with lies, manipulations, secrets and some unnerving revelations, which had me pulled in from the start. It’s a good psychological thriller and having read a Lisa Jewell novel sometime ago, it feels that she just gets better and better at the delivery.

A young couple, Tullulah and Zach leave their baby in the care of Kim, Tullulah’s mother. They do not return as expected and soon Kim is reporting them missing but there appears to be no trace of what happened to them. Months later Sophie moves to the town as she begins a new phase of her life but soon finds herself embroiled in the mystery of the missing couple. The dual timeline plays well with the growing suspense of what happened and combined with a large cast of interesting characters, this novel delivers a well thought out story.

In 2017 teenage mum Tallulah goes out for a date but never returns home. Over a year later, whilst exploring the woods behind a boarding school, Sophie finds a sign stating 'dig here'.

I am a huge fan of Lisa Jewell's thrillers so this was such a highly anticipated read for me. I am so pleased to say that this book didn't disappoint me! I love Jewell's fantastic writing style, she had me gripped from the very beginning and as the plot developed it became so fast paced that I read the last half of the book in one day. Jewell writes from multiple characters points of view and from 2017 to present day which really added to the tension and chilling atmosphere of the plot. I did think that I had the plot all figured out due to Jewell including some clever red herrings but I was pleased that the ending was unpredictable.

I definitely recommend that you read this book as it is currently one of my favourite thrillers of 2021! In my opinion this book is perfect for anyone wanting a well written, fast paced and unpredictable thriller.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Random House UK for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unedited feedback.

I would say that this is Lisa's best yet.
It had me gripped from page one.
Told in 3 different time lines from 3 different perspectives we are given tantalising bits of information on the disappearance of Zach and Tallulah.
They are parents of one year old Noah and Tallulah's mum Kim doesn't believe they would go to a party and never return to their adored son.
This was impossible to put down. I really wanted to find out what happened that night.
There are some really unlikeable characters namely Zach's parents who didn't seem to care that their son was missing.
Poor Kim distraught having to bring up Noah who tests her patience.
I really liked Dom, I thought he was really supportive of Kim and very caring.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House uk for the ARC in return for an honest review.

The Night she disappeared tell the story following teenage mum Talulah going missing. Told from multiple POV and timelines.
We follow Kim, Talulah’s mum, after she wakes up to find her daughter didn’t return home from a night out with Zach, father of her baby Noah. Talulah would not leave her baby willingly of that Kim is sure, she is worried something bad has happened, where are they both?
We also follow Tallulah’s story in the months leading up to her going missing and we also follow mystery writer Sophia who moves into a cottage alongside the woods where the teenagers went missing 15months after their disappearance. We follow her story as she finds clues which lead her to Kim and helping her to solve the mystery of the missing teenagers
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and learning more about who Talulah was and what led to her disappearance. I felt every moment of Kim’s nightmare of not knowing what had happened to her child and I enjoyed the thrill of following the clues Sophia finds.
Lisa Jewell once again did not disappoint with her writing and I recommend reading this book. Thank go to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this story.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

2017; Nineteen year old Tallulah is going out on a date, leaving her baby with her mother, Kim. Kim watches her daughter leave and, as late evening turns into night, which turns into early morning, she waits for her return, and waits. The next morning Kim phones Tallulah's friends who tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a party at a house in the nearby woods called Dark Place.

2019: Sophie is walking in the woods near the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started work as a head-teacher when she sees a note fixed to a tree that says: DIG HERE

After Tallulah and her boyfriend Zack leave a party together, they are never seen again. Her mother, Kim is desperate to find out what happened to her daughter. The story has a dual timeline and told from three perspectives. We are slowly drip fed pieces from the puzzle. There's a mixed bunch of characters, some likeable, others not so much. This is a bit of a slow burner with a few twists. The mystery behind the missing teenagers is intriguing.

This book was so good! It follows teenage mum Tallulah in 2017 as she goes on a night out with her boyfriend, and follows Tallulah’s mum Kim in 2018 in the aftermath of Tallulah’s disappearance. I love that this novel goes back and forth in time so we get to know Tallulah and what her life was like before she disappeared and we learn that not everything was as it seemed. We also get Sophie’s perspective in the present as she gets involved with the case and wants to help find out what happened to this girl. I found this book so hard to put down, I ended up reading it in just two sittings as I had to know! There are twists and turns throughout the novel and so many things I didn’t see coming, and even when I spotted what was going to happen next the rug was still pulled from under me as there was so much more than I had worked out. I loved this novel, I think it might even be my favourite Lisa Jewell novel so I highly recommend it!

It’s 2017. Tallulah is a 19 year old college student who has a baby with her boyfriend, Zach. Both are living with her mum, Kim. Tallulah makes friends with a wealthy student, Scarlett, who is ‘queen bee’ . Tallulah and Zach go missing after a party at Scarlett’s and there is nothing to indicate where they have gone and why.

It’s 2019 and Sophie and her boyfriend have moved into a cottage at an exclusive school where he is to be the new head teacher. One morning Sophie, a published author, discovers a sign at the bottom of the garden that states “DIG HERE” which she does, discovering evidence in the still unsolved missing persons case for Tallulah and Zach.

The novel switches between Sophie and Tallulah, both stories coming together to finally explain not only what happened after the party at Scarlett’s, but the stories that led all parties to it.

This was, to repeat what has been said in many reviews so far, a slow burner. However, it mainly kept my interest throughout, although I did get frustrated with the repetitive issues in Tallulah’s life (although I remember being a teenager and it is always ‘me me me’). I think the only person I had any sympathy for was Kim, the pain of holding out that your missing daughter will return, plus the stress of having to raise your grandchild.

The end, well, I hate to say it but I predicted it and it disappointed me because I found it ridiculous and a bit of a let down.

However, this aside, if you like slow-burner thrillers then this is a solid read.

Lisa Jewell never fails mind does she! Another fantastically written book with characters jumping off the page and a plot that gripped me so hard! I’m moving house at the moment so it took me a little longer to read but every moment I wasn’t reading it I wanted to get back to it! I loved the plot twists it really kept me wanting to know more. Another 5 star smash in my opinion. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and Century for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Random House for approving me for an ARC of this book. I have read two of Lisa Jewell’s previous books and loved them so I was very excited to start this one.

In true Lisa Jewell fashion the story was told from several POV and flicked between current events and the events of that night. By the end of the first chapter I was hooked! I had to know what happened to Tallulah, as a mother I know nothing would stop me from getting back to my child so something horrendous must of happened.

Tallulah had nothing but sympathy from me throughout the story. She was a genuine, kind hearted girl who didn’t want to hurt anyone. Being a mother at the age of nineteen had really taken its toll on her and whilst she had a very supportive mum I really couldn’t blame her for feeling confused. Her relationship with Zach was toxic and heading in a very dangerous direction. I’ve often thought the psychological torture can be worse than the physical because it is all that harder to prove. Unfortunately what Tallulah didn’t realise, until it was too late, was how manipulative the people in her life were.

We had a brilliant cast of character but I really enjoyed the role that Sophie played in the whole investigation, it was refreshing to have a character aid the police rather than make themselves a nuisance. The friendship she developed with Kim was very touching too and her final interview in Denmark was brilliant.

The entire story was impossible to put down. Secrets, lies, manipulation were all at the centre of this brilliant read and the final revelation was spine tingly! It’s very hard to review without giving too much away so you’ll just have to trust me when I say you need to read this book! This has got to be some of Lisa Jewell’s best work yet which only makes me excited for her next one!

Unfortunately for me, not my favourite Lisa Jewell book. Takes ages to get going in my opinion. About 70% in and things fet interesting.

Most books tend to have a past and present angle to tell and so does this one but this one has a last year and current year. I have begun to realise that I don't enjoy the narrative to be in this format (I dont know what its called) but I prefer the first person narrative (is that right?) which is another bugbear about this book.

I totally understand that authors are obviously struggling to write during a global pandemic so I'm sure I'll enjoy future ones more.

In 2017, Tallulah is a 19 year old student with a baby, living with the baby's father, Zach, at her mother's house. Things are not perfect but when Tallulah & Zach leave for a date night at the local pub, her mother Kim never dreams that she won't see Tallulah again. As the hours pass & turn into days, Kim knows that something bad has happened to Zach & her daughter. She goes to see the family at the house, Dark Place, where the two teenagers were last seen, but they tell her that the couple phoned for a taxi & left in the early hours. Kim calls the police but Tallulah & Zach seem to have disappeared into thin air. Almost 2 years later, Sophie & her partner, Shaun, move into the village & their cottage backs onto the woods near Dark Place. Sophie goes out for a walk the next day & sees a note fastened to a tree which says 'DIG HERE'.

The book is mainly told from Sophie's 2019 point of view & Tallulah's back in 2017. It is such a great read with unexpected twists & turns & it turned out completely different from my original hypothesis. The pacing is great too, it starts off as a slow burn but gradually builds into a jaw-dropping finale. I have a couple of books from the author in the TBR list & they will definitely be moved to the top of the list after reading this one. I really can't find any negatives about it at all.

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Random House UK/Cornerstone, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
