Wow what a read! Every time I put it down to do something, I kept thinking about when I could get back to it - for me this was one of Lisa Jewell's best. I loved the way the story started slowly but moved along quickly until the end!

This is the story of 19 year old young parents Tallulah and Zach who go missing after a rare night out. Their last known whereabouts was at The Dark Place, a huge mansion with a pool owned by Tallulah's new college friend Scarlett and her wealthy family. Kim, Tallulah's mum, has been babysitting their son Noah for the evening. Kim, out of her mind with worry, reports them missing the next day after they don't return home - a year goes by, Kim is bringing up Noah and she doesn't know if her daughter is dead or alive -there are no clues at all. Nobody knows what happened, or do they? The first clue is left on a sign saying "Dig Here" and so it begins!

Loved this. Five stars! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Penguin Random House UK for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A well written, tense little thriller that will keep you entertained throughout.
I was a little disappointed with the main ending in that it was a little far fetched for me but then there is one last twist at the end that ties the last loose thread and redeems itself somewhat.
An overall enjoyable read.

I usually love this author’s books but this one left me underwhelmed. The premise sounded good but it was a slow burner and Sophie was not believable and a little far fetched. It took me longer than usual to get to the end as for me it was not a page turner. Just ok so was disappointed with it. Would definitely read her next novel though . Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Lisa Jewell has woven together a compelling and complex story that steadily ratchets up the tension as she teases the reader with three different timelines and a range of possible clues. The basic premise is not especially novel, but Ms Jewell displays some skill in ensuring that the reader is gripped by the way the story unfolds and by her eventual reveal of the explanation of the apparent disappearance of a young couple in unusual circumstances. The disappearance of the couple was particularly difficult to understand as they had left behind, without explanation, their young baby. A less compelling aspect of the narrative was the seeming misandry of the author, who seemed to find it difficult to allow a male character to feature without some serious character defect being revealed, usually a tendency to manipulate or coerce their female partner. Despite this minor niggle this was a book that kept the reader glued to the page, especially in the latter half of the book as the climax approached.

I wanted to love The Night She Disappeared. The premise of the book is something that is right up my street. However I found this book to be really slow going and certainly lacking pace throughout the first half. The novel is written from two points of view, Tallulah in the past and Sophie in the present. This does work well and although the book was slow going, it did make me want to finish it as I was keen to see how thee plot would unfold. I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and the author for the chance to review.

This is another fantastic read from the literary legend that is Lisa Jewell. A similar style to her previous books, this one has all the twists and turns that I have come to love from her writing style.
One night, Tallulah, a mother to 1 year old Noah, goes missing along with boyfriend Zach. Leaving her worried mother, Kim, behind to look after her grandson whilst there is no sign of the two missing teens. That is until the new headmaster and his detective writer girlfriend move into the headmasters cottage in the grounds of the school. Soon after their arrival, Sophie begins to find clues that relight the case.
Cleverly written this story is told from many different perspectives and across two time periods of 2017 and 2018 allows the story and clues to be weaved throughout. This book is tense and steadily builds in suspense as the reader tries to guess what has happened. Another sensational thriller from Jewell which you would be a fool to miss.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House and Lisa Jewell for this fantastic e-ARC

A different vibe to her last book, The Family Upstairs but an equally good read. Lisa Jewell has completely nailed page turners and I had to stay up late into the night to finish this. Her ability to create a sense of foreboding is unparalleled. I’m sad to have finished this.

This book is a slow burning but enticing mystery. It is cleverly woven together to reveal and intricate plot that I didn’t expect. I did predict small elements of the story but this didn’t ruin it too much for me.

I found a couple of elements a little unrealistic which bugged me but I won’t go into any detail as it’ll ruin the story.

I liked the characters and the way Jewell weaves in descriptions. I like the unfolding of what actually happened in real time, alongside present day. Thought it was done very well.

It is June 2017 and Kim is minding Noah, her grandson of her young daughter, Tallulah. She is out on a date night with Zach, Noah's dad who lives with them. This is set over two time lines - the second being just over a year later. I like how Tallulah's character and how she has come to be a mother is explored - how she feels and what she wants to achieve in life. She is a loving mother who is happy to live with her mother, relying on her support but she is still developing and does not really know what she wants from life.
I found the story was told more in a cosy mystery style than her other books - almost taking on the character of Sophie who is a cosy crime novelist who moves into the area just over a year later.
I found the writing good and the shift from one time line to the next interesting but the explanation a little far fetched and suddenly finished, apart from a final twist.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Lisa Jewell/Random House UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is the first Lisa Jewel novel I’ve read and I now see why reviewers rave about her books. She sure knows how to write a gripping story! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Two youngsters have vanished off the face of the earth. The family that owns the house where they were last seen are super-rich and fairly weird. What were Tallulah and Zach doing there? And how could they vanish without trace? Detective novelist, Sophie, moves into the area with her boyfriend a year later, and gets drawn into the ongoing mystery.
This is a wonderful story that unfolds in unexpected ways. I loved the characters, the different relationships – both loving and fraught, and the glimpses into some seriously dysfunctional families. Above all I really enjoyed being surprised.

Summer 2017 and teenage parents Tallulah and Zac leave teir son with Tallulah's mum, Kim, and go out for the evening for a meal.
At 4.30 Kim wakes up to find neither of them have come home.
Next day she finds out they were last seen heading off with Tallulah's friends to a pool party at the aptly named Dark Place. There is no sign of them there and no-one claims to know where they are.
A year later and Sophie has just moved into the area with her boyfriend. Walking in the woods she sees a sign saying "Dig Here". What will she find and will it solve the mystery of the young couple?

The Night She Disappeared is another cracking read from Lisa Jewell. As the title suggests, it’s based on the night a girl disappears, with shifting timelines in the past and present that gradually reveal what really happened that night. It’s artfully plotted with lots of twists and I was surprised when the truth started to unravel as it wasn’t as I was expecting. I spent hours with this book and would recommend it as perfect escapism. Great ending too!

This is my favorite by Lisa Jewell so far. It's a fast read, a page turner you cannot put down. The author can surely write a story that will keep you hooked.
It's a dual timeline story that mixes events of the past and the present.
Characters and plot are as good as usual, the author is a talented storyteller and know how to keep your attention alive. The setting is fascinating and I loved the description of the place even if I knew that there was some evil lurking.
It's a gripping and highly entertaining story that I strongly recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

A mystery relayed to the reader in two time frames. 2017 two teenagers disappear in mysterious circumstances. The girls mother, looking after their young baby is convinced there has been foul play. Detectives on the case are unable to shed any light on the case. The story then moves to 2018 with no further sightings or evidence as to events after a drunken , drug fuelled party held by a group of youngsters. A young grandmother has had her life destroyed not only with the sense of grief and loss but the responsibility for a young baby. The arrival a year later, of a detective writer into the community, with time, curiosity and interest in the gossip of two missing teenagers, inadvertently becomes involved in the mystery . Her interest jump start a cold case involving the reader in a deepening and involving story of control, abuse, sex and murder. The author reveals the clues exposed in the present time, whilst the reader then is transported back in the past as events unfold. A thoroughly enjoyable, expertly written story with well drawn characters, a complex series of events, and the actions of disturbed vulnerable teenagers explode into havoc and turmoil. Many thanks to author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

The Night she disappeared is such a treat. If you are looking for a mystery that isn't too fast, neither too slow, but keeps you glued with the slow unravelling, this is it!! I really enjoyed the ride. Lisa Jewell sure knows how to keep the reader hooked.

The story follows the disappearance of two nineteen year olds, Tallulah Murray and her boyfriend (and father of her baby) Zach after a date night. Tallulah's mother is first pissed that the teen parents have not been responsible enough to come home, esp with the baby around and under her care, but it quickly escalates to fear. The young adults have simply vanished. No clues. The novel is told through multiple POVs and three different timelines — 2017 when they disappeared, a year after the disappearance, and when a detective fiction writer Sophie moves in with her boyfriend (headmaster of a school) and finds a very suspicious sign in her garden which might be an important clue to the old disappearance.

I loved the ending. You might say there are two climaxes, and it works very well. Would recommend for an entertaining mystery read.

Lisa Jewell has published roughly one book a year since her prizewinning debut novel “Ralph’s Party’” in 1998. “The Night She Disappeared” is, therefore, her 20th. She has also won several other rewards and number one best seller positions. With such a pedigree it is not surprising that it a stylishly written story with a complex plot, and a lot of suspects – but what are they suspected of?.
We know from the title that someone is going to disappear. That someone is Tallulah Mulligan an unworldly, teenage, “single” mother. Single in the sense that the baby’s father, Zach, initially abandoned her before trying to restart the relationship. In September 2016 they are, all three, sharing a room and a bed, in her mother (Kim)’s house in a small village. Tallulah wants a relationship where they co-parent Noah, but with no strings, especially no sex. Zach wants marriage and a home of their own. He works in a factory while she has started a social work course at the FE college in the nearby town. In June 2017 Tallulah and Zach both disappear after leaving a party at “Dark Place”, a secluded, four-century-old mansion outside the village. The police, mainly represented by DI Dom McCoy, are told they had been having a row before leaving the house and heading off for home, through the woods that surround the Mansion and the village. Have they run away, are they dead or alive, who might know the answer to this riddle?
The village is home to a private crammer, Maypole House. In August 2018, a new Head, Shaun, and his wife, Sophie, have just moved into the cottage that comes with the job. Sophie is a mystery writer and is intrigued by this real life mystery. Taking on the persona of her fictional detective, she starts to investigate, working with Kim and Dom. It quickly becomes clear that some of the staff at the school may have been involved, and some of the ex-students. Of the latter, the most significant is Scarlett, a charismatic, rich, spoilt, sophisticated, wild-child, whose parents own the mansion. Scarlett and Tallulah had formed a surprising bond, to such an extent that Scarlett enrolled in September 2016 at the same FE college, although she is studying Art. Can the relationship between two such different characters be as solid as it seems?
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

Wow! This is an excellent thriller! Thrillers have recently become my least read genre as I find that I usually guess what is going to happen but this was brilliant! I couldn't put it down and read it in two sittings!

Could not put this book down and finished it in two sittings. I was gripped by the story of Tallulah, a young mum on a night out with her boyfriend, who didn't come home and a year later no trace of either has been found. Her own mum, Kim, knows they would not have abandoned their baby. Sophie has moved into a cottage in the grounds of the school her partner will be head teacher at. There are many ties between the private crammer and the disappearance of the pair, especially when mysterious clues appear, seemingly left for Sophie as they reference plot lines in her cosy crime novels. What happened that night at Scarlett's strange house and why is no one talking? The character of Tallulah is well drawn and her relationships similarly so. Each little insight into the past is revealed in a parallel storyline between Tallulah the year before and Sophie a year later. A little far fetched towards the end, I loved it none the less

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This story centres around a couple called Tallulah and Zach. They go for a night out and don’t return. They’re a young couple in their teens who have been together since they were 14, and have a baby together. They both live with Tallulah’s mum, Kim. As soon as they don’t return home, Kim starts to look for them, and eventually contacts the police. No one has any information and the case goes cold. The following year, the local sixth form for students who have previously been expelled employs a new headteacher and his girlfriend, Sophie. Sophie is an author of detective books, and not long after moving in to their new cottage attached to the college, Sophie sees a sign on the gatepost saying “Dig Here”, which she does, and she uncovers an item that could be connected to the missing couple, and Sophie starts doing her own investigation.

We read the book from a few perspectives and two timelines, the surrounding time of the disappearance and the current time of the investigation. The characters were brilliant, and all of them could be people we know, they were all relatable. The story flowed excellently, and something was happening on every page. It was great reading both before and current so you knew exactly the clues that came to light and what they related to previously that night. There were twists and turns constantly, never a dull moment. This is hands down the best book I’ve read from this author, and would highly recommend to all. Brilliant!!
