The Brushmaker's Daughter by Kathy Kacer was a quick read and interesting short book. I listened to it on NetGalley. I gave it a 5/5 start.
It is about two main characters, father and daughter, who were fictional. They fled their home in hopes to be safe and work in a factory ran by Otto Weidt. Otto is not a fictional character. As the Nazi's came closer and eventually raided the factory several times it is shown in a child accessible way the outcomes and a short period of their lives. The end of the book gives information on the real life characters.
I would recommend the book for middle grade and adults alike. The audio/narrator was fabulous.
I thoroughly enjoyed my listen of The Brushmaker's Daughter by Kathy Kacer and narrated by Gabi Epstein.
We follow Lillian and her dad as they try to find work as well as hide from the Nazis. I liked Lillian's spirit, and I loved her dad's positive outlook on his blindness.
This story really showed the good in humanity during a very grim, dangerous, and tragic time.
I thought Epstein had a very pleasant voice to listen to, and she was engaging.
I thought this was an interesting story and well paced. There was a lot crammed into such a short period of time. I think it is enjoyable for any audience and not just children.
I received an eARC from Second Story Press through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
