This series is always one that I will read. It's hilarious. This volume featured a rap battle and a Yakuza Valentine. Overall, highly recommend this series.

I'm so glad I found this manga! I never thought a series about an ex-yakuza would be such a feel-good story, but Tatsu is just so adorable and sweet. Miku really is a lucky lady...
This volume features the usual slice-of-life hijinks- Tastu and Miku enter a Halloween costume contest, each hoping to win a prize- Miku's after the first place hot springs trip, but Tatsu wants the second place year's supply of rice! Masa tries to teach Tatsu how to be lazy, and later drops hints like bombs to score some New Year's cash. Speaking of bombs, the rap battle that Tatsu gets into is hilariously bad, just, no, dude, no. A lot more happens, it's all cute and fun, and it makes me laugh. I'm hooked!

Every volume of The Way of The Househusband is just as hilarious as the last. One of my favorite moments had to be the rap battle! I hope that in the future we get to learn more about Tatsu before becoming a househusband. I enjoy the series' episodic nature, but I wish we got a little more background from each character. As always, I adore the comics at the end of the manga about his cat, Gin!

No matter how long this series goes on, it continues to delight! The Househusband continues to strive to improve his domestic skills, taking it as seriously as any other yakuza's "hits" or "beefs". The Way of the Househusband series shows no sign of losing steam, all the while gaining heart.

This is the next book in a highly popular series that every library should have. Each of the titles explores the life of former high ranking yakuza member turned househusbnd Tatsu and his attempts to live a domesticated life with his sweet business woman wife. Each of his attempts is given the same amount of gravity of a yakuza hit, so his blundering and bluntness can be very off-putting to normal people in their daily lives. but as time goes on everyone starts to really love an appreciate this absolute whackjob of a man. This manga also has a corresponding anime and live action show, for those who also order DVDs for their libraries.

Okay so if your reading this know this is book 5 to the series and if you haven't read it yet then you must. Its pretty hilarious. With each book a retired infamous yakuza boss is now a house husband as his wife works and everything is pretty hardcore for him. In this newest book I could'nt help but crack up with the whole trying to relax for once thing. He just cant manage it and ends up enlisting a friend to help him out and as I said before everything is not simple and he really does things hardcore its pretty funny. Can't wait to see what's next.

Oh and before I forget there is a Netflix series of The Way of the House Husband you should check out as well.

By volume 5 everything is pretty much the same as the volumes before it with Tatsu doing normal everyday things but adding his Yakuza flair to it but it's STILL. FUNNY.

The Way of the Househusband Volume 5 is written and drawn by mangaka Kousuke Oono and published by Viz Media. This best-selling comedy series continues with its non-linear storytelling and packs each page with mighty laughs and endearing relationship moments. In previous volumes, it focused less on emotional beats between ex-yakuza member Tatsu and his wife, Miku. However, The Way of the Househusband Volume 5 brings back the sweet love that makes this story not only hilarious but also so sentimental by providing an extension of the strengths of Volume 4.

For starters, the artwork in this volume is the most dynamic and expressive in the whole series thus far. There are moments between characters displaying excitement or joy and Oono captures them perfectly. This is best shown in the chapter where Tatsu and Miku go to a sake tasting fair. The warmth and happiness that radiates from their exchanges of love, their flustered faces from the alcohol, and their giggles are infectious to say the least. My absolute favorite panel in the whole book captures Tatsu, Miku, and a friend of theirs in arms throwing their heads back while laughing together in a moment of fun. It’s breathtaking in its simplicity but helps engage readers into caring about these characters. Not to mention that Oono has a great hold on lettering to make the experience of reading the manga easy and quick.

The writing sees the comedic moments hit stronger than in the previous volume. There are more thought-out jokes that don’t feel so dependent on Tatsu being an ex-yakuza member. A lot of the comedy in The Way of the Househusband Volume 5 stems from character interactions. Whether Tatsu is making sure he is getting the perfect gift for Miku, making the best dinner at a chef’s class, or playing video games with his friend, the comedy feels more personalized to their characters. In previous volumes, the comedy landed on the fact that he is perceived as scary and violent whereas now it is mixed with character growth.

One of the best reasons why The Way of the Househusband stands out is because Oono writes Tatsu to never be afraid of engaging in household activities to help his wife. It’s refreshing to read an ongoing that never has its main character so utterly in love with his wife that he would get into a competition over who can make the best dinner just to impress her. Readers are never laughing at Tatsu but always with him.



This book was one of my personal favorites out of the whole series. I laughed out loud so many times at how human comedy can be. Despite The Way of the Househusband Volume 5 being about an ex-yakuza member, there is nothing but tender care and endearment shown in the presentation of his marriage to Miku. The zany situations and great character writing make Volume 5 an absolute blast to read. It is incredibly rewarding for long-time readers to engage and witness character development within the last two volumes and with Oono’s superb artwork, you cannot go wrong reading The Way of the Househusband Volume 5.

3.5 stars. Continues the formula of a former Yakuza attacking domestic tasks as if he was still a mobster. Silly fun, but the gimmick is wearing a bit thin. This volume is saved by the introduction of his in laws and a truly epic hot pot.

I cannot express in words how much I love this series. When I first picked it up I thought it sounded hilarious, but with each subsequent volume the intensity in which Tatsu does everyday tasks, the Yakuza references that are ultimately turned into househusband-related things, and just the sheer wholesomeness of the characters are what really draw me back each time. The dynamics between Tatsu and the characters from his past (some who are still Yakuza, others who have also left that life behind) are both funny and wholesome. (Who can resist Tatu's househusband charm)? The series really brings a different perspective on life and how to live it.

Everyone needs more Tatsu in their lives.

Another great addition to this series. I love how funny and lighthearted it is. I recommend this to people looking for something funny, but doesn't have a story to it, so you can jump in at any time and really don't need to worry about forgetting about things.
I look forward to reading the next volume.

In this volume, Tatsu tries to have fun while his wife is away, engages in a rap battle, enters a Halloween costume contest with his wife, goes to a buffet, eats hot pot with Miku and her parents, fights off a virus, gets drunk on saki, bakes a chocolate cake for Miku for Valentine's Day, and catches fish.

OMG when I saw that Vol.5 was on Netgalley I immediately binge read the series. They had been sitting on my side table for a couple months now, was I ever missing out. I think this volume is my favourite so far. So funny and such a fast read. Also, little spoiler, rapping Tatsu is someone everyone needs in their life.

Hilarious and fun. Art is flawless. I absolutely love the backgrounds of the city, restaurants, apartments. It's really just fun!

I was very excited for this because of the hype surrounding the Netflix anime. It seemed like a super fun premise-- a former yakuza gives up the streets for his wife and plays the role of supportive house husband while she continues her career-- but the execution (pun) doesn't live up to the hype. The story is told in little vignettes as Tatsu tackles everyday obstacles like laundry stains and food prep. Cute jokes abound but there's not really much of a story here. I was really hoping to go more into depth with the characters but it was just sight gag after fish-out-of-water situation after another. However, I do think it will have an audience ready and willing to read so it's a must-buy for libraries and anime/manga clubs.

Kousuke Oono does it again. From rap battles to "lazy" days, this title will keep you giggling from start to finish. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun, light read that will immediately lift your mood.

Once again I have enjoyed reading Kousuke Oono's drawing and entertaining characters. I enjoy how an ex-yakuza member is living an ordinary is so dramatically that it is hilarious. This manga has been such an enjoyable experience and I can't wait for the other volumes to enjoy.

The Way of the Househusband is a wonderfully silly series that is more a gentle slice of life than an all out comedy, but nevertheless continues to be enjoyable with each ongoing volume. The conceit of a formerly ferocious yakuza turned overly dramatic stay at home husband may feel played out for some as the jokes can be repetitive and usually involve the same misunderstandings, but Tatsu himself remains as appealing as ever, earnest in his ridiculousness and charmingly devoted to his wife Miku. Because each chapter is a fairly self-contained story with no real overarching plot it's easy for new fans to start at any volume, and this latest one is no exception. While this latest installment doesn't bring anything new to the table, it keeps doing what it does best, in a fun and engaging way. I'm a huge fan of this series, in both manga and live action formats and I'm sure the new anime will bring more readers to the manga.

Sadly for me, I think I am falling out of love with this series. For me, I feel like there isn't enough plot moving things forward for me to continue this one. I can only read the same type of story so many times before it loses it's charm.
